The neutral in KI is close enough in relation to SF. Fulgore is basically a robo shoto and Aganos is basically anime Hugo/Gail. Nothing to be afraid to learn about or relate.
I remember doing a FT10 that Sajam did commentary for. My Fulgore vs another dudes Kan Ra. That shit was basically crack version of Ryu vs Sim.
Tons of games have grapplers with good options to deal with other archetypes.
The reason everyone says that Potemkin is one of the best grapplers ever, is precisely because they built him so he didn’t auto lose on the character select screen.
Thunder from KI is another fantastic example.
If “that’s just SF” to have certain archetypes that just suck… then SF is doing it wrong.
Archetypes are supposed to represent different play styles and approaches to the game. When they devolve into Rock, Paper, Sissors that’s not super interesting.
This doesn’t mean giving sim a DP… that’s a straw man. No one is arguing for that.
to add on what I said about Ryu becoming a master, a “rebooted” street fighter could be Ken’s son growing up while being trained by his dad travelling across the world in search or Ryu (now some kind of legendary old master) to be trained by him while fighting new challengers during his travel across different countries
Nah, their design intentions were to make the game feel heavy about commitment(lol that worked out) and each move having an intention, they never said they wanted everyone to tread down a central line.
SF isn’t doing it wrong, other games play by this same ruleset??? Wald in UNIST, Pot in GG? Are these games bad now or something? If you’re a big lad who wants to get in, you’re going to lose to the dudes who play around keeping you out. There shouldn’t be a system that destroys this interaction.
You are going to have to rephrase this. I’m not even sure what you said in this post.
I’m also not sure you have followed my reasoning. For example, in my post I said Potemkin is well designed, and in you response you said that I claimed the opposite.
So… yeah, I’m not really sure how to respond here.
