Yeah idk how we got from “no gouken” to “no gief and ryu” even I’m not that radical.
Ryu is boring, and kens tools are more interesting to me. There’s more to do with him from a plot standpoint too.
T hawk would be better if he was fleshed out. His tools are more than just 1,000 ways to grab someone (I know I’m simplifying).
Gief is probably okay. But whenever I compare him to the main grapplers from other games he always comes off very uninteresting.
What? Ken is just weaker Ryu with flame effects. He’s like the midlife crisis of Shotokan. Does he even train? What is Ken gonna do besides be a rich family man? Ryu is flat but he also the face of the franchise.
Gief is the best SF grappler stop hitting the pipe. No bullshit just no frills grabs and muscle.
Man we really debating if iconic characters within the series deserve a spot.

I’d like for Ryu to finally become an old master, making his moveset more unique and for a new character to became his pupil and the shoto representative

I’m being unrealistic.
I’m being serious with the comment that SF is hamstrung by having to keep including 30 year old characters… which a big chunk of the fan base won’t let them really play with.
Regarding Ken. I agree… Ken is boring as shit… but he’s still more interesting than Ryu. He has motivations in life other than punching dudes.
Does Ryu ever formally teach Sak? If not that needs to be a thing.
But yeah the roster issue happens with literally every long lasting franchise. People want the same characters in every game and if the dev doesn’t deliver well they can get fucked.
Hell you see it even in Pokemon. Think they are well over 1k creatures at this point and yet you still have a fuckton of gen 1 favoritism. In Gen 5 they did all new pokemon for the first time and people hated it. Granted a lot of the designs were weak but still give it a chance.
You could get rid of every shoto in the next SF and I wouldn’t much care.

I think we’ll at least see bearded Ryu next game. Everyone seemed to love him bearded up looking like a true hobo.

The only match with Ryu Sakura is looking for now is the Tinder variety.
