Shot still has 10+ start-up, I’m talking range 2 when you’re right out of st.mp x2 range, his option pool is slim af there, even with fundies if you get given one knife to throw you aren’t going to leverage that scenario super efficiently. Bonchan just backdashes out of it majority of the time, so do I.
They actually explained why never put him in the game shortly after release. It was about having a diverse playstyle represented in the game. Having another shoto like character would be problematic.
You would be losing your turn, it’s -3. And st.mp > st.mp is his go-to trap vs. 3f characters, Bonchan uses it a lot. You confirm into DP from the second hit.
But you’re trying to fill in every hole, so you get your plus 3 plus 3 string then your mega button that crush counters and links to dp after, and also anti airs.
You SF kids these days gawd damn. Ya want the works lol
Tbh it’s more about the range you get left in, microwalk st.hk becomes a thing so you can hold that ground instead of backing up to get shots started immediately.
It just makes his options feel more V esque, which would help a couple MUs from him being helpless.
I know exactly what you mean, but the main problem with his bad matches is simply they all have something that takes his shots out the game. So you are forced to play at that shitty range you are talking about.
It’s pretty easy to figure out. Sagat is slow ryu. Well, t
What ryu used to be.
It’s pretty damn basic Streetfighter:
Throw fireballs from outside your poke range, inside your poke range…l use your pokes.
Ryu “sucks” because his poke range got supremely nerfed and he had to lean on fireball more than usual.
This DID NOT happen with guile/sagat/and to a certain extent Nash. All have good projectiles while also having good normals to fall back on when the projectile was too risky. This is exactly how sagat is designed.
Throw fireballs when at midrange or whatever, use st.mk to keep spacing when fireballs will be too slow or too close. Use st.hk when your opponent wants to try and counterpoke st.mk with a standing normal. Sagats st.hk being so ranged and having such speed is an incredible boon as a move designed primarily to stop his opponent from using standing moves against him (standing moves have the most range in sf5, which is something you need when playing against a character that is constantly walking backwards and chucking plasma.
Tbh he feels pretty fine on this game. Has some bad matchups, as do most. But his biggest problem is a badly designed game, not HIS design. He has all the tools and damage to boot. His st.hk converts into uppercut KD from way further than uriens st.hp ever did, and with faster startup and a better extended hit box.
“He has this range just shy of st.mp where st.lk is really his only smart choice, and when he’s in that he feels a little helpless against some of characters with solid mid poke choices, I’d say cr.hp but it’s just fucking slow”
Cr mp?
