SFIII 3rd Strike (SUPERCADE/GGPO/nFBA,etc) Palmod palettes fair

Looks good :wgrin: Reminds me of a console colour I think I saw, can’t remember…

No need to thank me though I’m happy to help as I think alot of people are put off this thinking it’s complicated when it’s not. The more people join in the merrier!

Two little things - the highlights on her trousers are meant to be lighter (the ring bits) and the in between grey from light to dark is currently darker than it should be. Try shifting those around you may find it looks a little better

This should be on the first page in the Q & A.Using this gives people the ability to basically get console colors very easy. :wgrin:

thanks for this info.

Edit: Question.

1)How did AcidGlow create those cool trail effect after a super(it’s pics on page 10)?

Maybe Alien Nose Job will add that into his first post, I guess it is pretty useful.

We are making a guide actually but it’s alot of work.

The trail effects are in Palmod, they are just colour edits of the SA sprite trails. They’re located past the parry and EX palettes for each character. Look for 4 blue palettes as default.

**[UPDATE] ** :woot:

Check the latest document attached guys - I have Gouki’s extras (wirh ESN’s help!) filled in, with some more on the way for Sean, Urien and Oro. Also all select screen portraits are in and I’ve figured out most of the in game extras which means everything from health bars to KO titles, dust effects, parry and SA effects and more. So expect another update with all those in soon.

I don’t see the 4 blue palettes .Can u look at this picture and circle the four that you’re talking about (or something like that)? Also where do i put in those numbers ?

It really would be better if you PM me next time dude, if it’s a direct question. Please do that next time.

It’s really simple - each character has a scroll tab below, in your picture it’s the LP tab below Gouki’s name. OK, so switch that to SUPPORT. Now you can see the first EX palette (out of two). These are the colours Gouki would flash if he had EX moves.

Now, after the two EX palettes are 4 blue palettes and then 4 more blue palettes. I think the first 4 are for parries (they are lighter) and then the last 4 are the super trails - a quick test will prove which is the case.

The numbers we’re all posting are to do with extra options that you can put into Palmod - but you’ll have to PM Suupa for the details, I warn you it’s a little complicated at first and they will all be going into palmod in future I think anyway, so it’s ok to wait - it’s so we can edit the colours of things like fireballs and aegis etc.

I use MSN or PM me if you have any other questions, it’s better than posting every single one on here, but I am happy to help and it’s a much better way to ask.

ok. I’ll keep that in mind.Thank u.That also should be on the Q A list .

I wrote a little script to help identifying new palettes.
Not completely finished yet, but already really useful IMO: I tried to find Q SA3 palette, i found it in a few minutes ^^

http://ensabahnur.free.fr/ROM_51_SearchColor/viewRomContent.php

So, how i works…
All graphics hexa data have been recorded in a database.
Without any option, script will display all data found between the two address filled (by default, it displays GOUKI triple fireball).

Change the addresses, and click on “View” button, and display will change with the new values.
The “+” and “-” allows to change addresses by clicking on them. A bit more practical than manual.

RGB checkbox will display real RGB (RedGreenBlue) code, in hexa format, instead of raw hexa data.

“Search color” field, if filled, allows to display only lines where this color has been found. Matching colors will be all colors in this range:
(R + or - 8)(G + or - 8)(B + or - 8)
R/G/B are the decomposition of the filled color.

So, how i do to find something:

  • launch FBA and take a screenshot of the screen where the palette you search is
  • open the screenshot in an image editor. This editor must have a tool to catch a pixel exact color.
  • note RGB colors you wanna found in ROM
  • enter color in the script, with a wide address range (not full range, there are too many data)
  • you should see your color appear at least one time, but more probably
  • look for the adjacent colors, to see if they can correspond with the palette you search. If you think it can be the good, you can display a wider range between the address value.
  • you think it’s good? Do the sfiii3e.txt thing with the range previously found, launch PalMod, modify colors (all red or blue or whatever you want), and test it on FBA!

Hope it will help^^

ESN that is REALLY useful - you are a genius!

Is it available offline somewhere or does it exist only as a web page?

Did you see my doc? I was wondering if you had anymore info we could add to it? This is going much quicker than I expected but I know the backgrounds are going to be really hard. There’s a few things I’m having trouble finding but when it’s all there we can submit to Suupa and hopefully he’ll be able to implement with previews into Palmod!

Thanks again ESN, this is a nice bit of coding!!

Glad you like it ^^

You can have it kind of offline, but it’s a web app so you’ll have to install apache/php and mysql server on your computer. Maybe not worth all these troubles, except if it’s really slow on your side…

Yes, i see it, nice job ^^
I just have Q SA3 new:
0x00708680
0x00708700

I added an option to record palette directly in DB. Please use it when you had completely verified the palette!

ESN I have to admit - I messed up on some of those Gouki values and they’re all quite vague.
I think the air fireball has a different palette to the SA and air SA which share one.

Also the shungokusatsu values are too wide, there’s a bunch of colours from

  • 706B60 to - 706B80

that looks like a standard fireball but is not, I have no idea what it is even after testing.
So I misjudged on some of the labels, is there any way of editing on your DB or is it all final?

Also, what do the check boxes do?

I’m gonna do an update page for all the palettes. Probably later tonight or next week…

For the mysterious Gouki fireball, is it possible that Shin Gouki has its own separate palette?
I never played with him, so IDK how looks his FB…

VERY good point, Shin Gouki has twin air fireballs - I wonder if that is it! Will check now…

[UPDATE} - No it’s not that either, so I have no idea… maybe it’s the effect from something but nothing showed up at all so far…

Ok, just finished all i wanted to do ^^

http://ensabahnur.free.fr/ROM_51_SearchColor/

  • first script allow to update / delete any of the palettes recorded in DB…
  • second script is the one is posted before, no change AFAI remember :stuck_out_tongue:
  • last script ^^ This one permits to select a range on the rom like the previous script, then patch the rom and make it available for download. You just have to put it in your sfiii3n unzipped folder, zip, and test ^^

Obviously, using a big range with these script will increase computing time, and due to my ISP restriction, any search longer than 30s will probably brutally stop.
But after some tests, it seems way enough responsive.

Wow ESN, you’ve been hard at work! Though I must admit I’m a little confused…

I don’t get how the patch script works (what do you use it for?) and what the tick boxes do in the colour checker?

I did however find your web tool a much easier way of testing ranges when it comes to finding extras. I managed to pinpoint Chun and Remy’s extras exactly. Turns out Remy last kick on his SA2 has a different (but adjacent) palette to his flash kicks. Remy sucks but it’s cool from a colour hack point of view.

Before, I had to input them into the text file and load palmod every time.

One last question - is the verification script page backed up? I am concerned someone will go in and trash the place, delete palettes etc. What do the red bars mean? Oh, and I funded a months premium for you as a quick way to say thanks. :wgrin:

Dawn, sorry, i didn’t precise how to use it :stuck_out_tongue:

For the viewer (viewRomContent.php), tick boxes in all color allow to save a palette:

  • tick begin and end address of your palette. No need to tick all range, juste begin an end.
  • on bottom of the page, fill in a “category” and a “name” for your palette
  • click on button “Record palette in DB”

Now , your new palette will appear in the “Palettes” field of the table when range covered it.

For the patcher script, tick boxes in color allow…nothing!, i just forget to delete them :stuck_out_tongue:

Tick boxes between colors and “Palettes” field are the interesting ones.

  • Tick one or many (you can also tick one, keep next unticked and tick next, though i don’t think finally this is very useful) boxes
  • on bottom of the page, choose a color, from 0 (black) to 127 (well, it will give something like a white/blue)
  • click on “Patch ROM” button

After a few seconds, you will see a green an blue little paragraph where you will be able to download the patched rom 51.

Something i didn’t precise: if you patch a rom, then patch another times, first modifications will not appear anymore. Each patching process use the same “intact” rom to construct the new patched one.

That’s all, you should be able to use it now, as far as it didn’t have some bugs :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope you use Firefox, cause i just checked with IE, and it looks special, though it should works correctly

Yep, i back up DB on every update/delete. I already had same problems with my frame data site

Red bars in update screen means that the range for the palette is wrong. The one now has a begin address > end ^^

Thx for the premium, though i have no clue of what to do with it

yo
ESN, that’s pure genius !

I found Oro’s extras (maybe values are a bit off… but it looked ok ingame)

Yagyou+fireball
0x00706280
0x00706300

EX Yagyou
0x00706380
0x00706400

yes, green yagyou and fireballs share pal when they impact
and I also discovered that some effects like the light on oro’s finger when he phones home at the start of his regular SA2 is already on his palette.
when the yagyou ball appears, oro flashes for one frame, and that colour also is on oro’s body palette. that’s the colour that appears (and looks off on every normal palette capcom made aside the first one) on oro’s face for a couple frames when he dragon punches (MP, HP and EX) and tha I called a bug a few months back.(well, still looks off when he dragon punches…)

as for the turtle, I found it, using scramble bu it couldn’t save ingame, I asked suupa and he told me he already found it when searching for tengu objects but didn’t activate it in palmod (so this hidden entry must overwrite the palette I try to enter using the sfiiie.txt file)
so no turtle, suupa said he’d add it in next update

merry christmas all

Awesome Alien, I have Ryu, Chun’s and Remy’s extras narrowed down as far as I can go too - just mentioning so no-one spends unnecessary time on it.

In a rush for a train so a full update in the new year!

Merry Crimbo everyone!!

I love custom colors but I also like being able to watch my 2DF replays when I do exceptional so Im going back to original colors. Apparently no one has tried to correct this problem either.

The only time I really want to watch replays is in games like Garou or Jojo, so it doesn’t really matter to me. I love custom colors as well, I think it should be a standard in 2D fighting games at this point lol.
