Hey guys, sorry I didn’t mention about the release in this thread.
The new palmod release was based on help fixing errors and the like, since I havent touched it in a while. But, most of the 3rd strike features are good to go aside from the ones mentioned and aside from MVC2. One feature I know not working right now is Gouki’s palettes and Portraits are not working right.
If you guys notice any errors in the program let me know or shoot me a pm and I will get onto them. I’m trying to tidy up this program on the 3s side and the MVC2 side.
Nice edit powerbook Please please save as PNG or GIF though, the jpeg hurts my eyes
And nice Ken Poot, I think kof characters are mostly crap but I like the darker gi for sure.
So I finally got to somewhere where I was happy with Q and his damn glitches. The colours are all over the place and after wrestling with it for the main stay of the weekend I’ve discovered there are actually bits to him that can’t be fixed - black areas that have no colour swatch to even edit (wtf!), the outline of his shoes being the same in some frames as his tie (why?) and the fact that his shoes share colours with his gloves, face and trousers. All this made me really pissed and I’ve come to the conclusion that alot of Q’s animation and pallette colouring was simply rushed, it’s the only reason I can put to it being so filthed up.
So, what I did was sort around 90% of what I thought was wrong so I now have a default pallette to edit for my other colour versions and if people do want to edit him they have a more sensible place to start from. I couldn’t fix everything, as light shades become dark shades become highlights and all over the place, but I see this as an improvement and I think I can now make 7 good colour edits from this.
To be honest it’s probably a little paler than it should be, to properly fit in with the backgrounds but what the heck - I’ve spent enough time with this pallette already and I’m leaving it for now. I’ll have my 7 given another week or so anyway and Q will be done to add to the others, yay!
never paid so much attention to that, as anyway I hardly have time to play these days, but you may be right…
Still it could be that, or something else.
Anyway, there could be a workaround, if Damadai wants to implement it.
And it also depends if the problem comes from the rom itself, or the emulator detecting an anomaly in it.
At first for some reason I thought custom pals didn’t work on nFBA (yup, before 2DF), and I asked 0746 how/if it could be possible to alter nFBA so that it bypasses CRC check (as FBA shuffle offers such a featue) and he gave me the location of 3 values to change in one file of the sources and all that I would have to do then, would be recompiling (which I imagine Damdai must do every update… well, I imagine…).
So, it’s not been tested, but if the problem comes from the detection of the anomaly and not from the rom itself, then it may be fixable.
I’ll copy/paste my answer on 2DF + forward 0746’s reply to Damdai.
I put all these into a preview image for you bud - people may not bother downloading previews so it’s always best to embed a preview, hope you don’t mind
I especially like the 3rd one - the skin and hair looks good!
Necro can be a pain, his jeans/trousers have some slightly complicated stuff going on, but his skin is fine. I haven’t made a finished edit for him yet though.
I’ve not used 2DF before - usually I’m on GGPO but it’s always broken lately so I’ve been on MAME kaillera - is 2DF better? Maybe I should try it out.
Ok, cool =]
Wow…I finally tried it out and just as I thought, Necro really is a bitch to work with
Oro on the other hand, is a breeze. Nothing too fancy, I just really like black/white.
I can’t wait to edit the Yagyou and changing eye colors  EDIT: can’t change Yagyou =[ but you can change the eye colors, his snot bubble and the ZZZs when he sleeps
I wish there were a way to preview movements instead of waiting for a glitch to pop up as I play.
By the way, how do I get nFBA to stop telling me my graphics are wrong? It warns me every time I load it. Same on 2DF.
Haha nice, love the Mario Bros. Dudleys  no way to change the shoes though? Wario does have green shoes…I haven’t messed with Dudley yet so idk
updates on my Oro, and a peek at Sean who is still in progress.
Included ex trails, ZZZs, snot bubble, parry and super colors. Also his eyes progress from green to purple and back. Super colors are weird, do I have to change all of those last palettes? ughhh
EDIT: Necro progress…you can see I have a theme going. Messing with the palette I can see why Necro’s skin is always brighter than his pants -_- You can change the color of his electricity =] the girl stays the same though. There’s one group of colors that doesn’t seem to change anything…most of the last row. anyone know?
Powerbook that navy blue Ryu is awesome - loving it
Necro and Oro have some troublesome areas like Oro’s cloth and Necro’s legs, where highlights are also shadows in some areas but other than that they’re ok mostly. I don’t like the harsh linework on either of them though I must say. I prefer soft and fluid shadows and highlights etc like Makoto has - Oro is all outlines and it jars a little (with the rest of the game art) in my opinion.
[UPDATE]
I was going to upload my Dudley or Urien pallettes but decided for Sean instead. Even though no-one ever uses him seriously he’s still a fun character, I had fun editing the colours especially coming up with seven varying skin tones. The MP and HP colours are similar to existing pallettes but I like to think I optimised them for the better.
One thing I haven’t shown are all the different basketball colours - test him out to see them all!
LET, I am using all of your Seans, they are excellent =] I can finally take Sean seriously
Oh, and 2DF is great, you should join!
Okay, I’ve found out some new stuff about Necro’s palette. These colors do not show up in Necro’s preview.
Using LET’s grid format: G2-G8 are the colors for Necro’s SA1 electricity.
Row H are the colors for Necro’s normal electricity.
B5 is the color that his highlights (buttons, etc) blink during electric attacks. From my testing it’s usually a good idea for B5 to be a slightly brighter version of B6.
EDIT: Here is my latest Necro, this is the console Start + LK version. I did it by opening up one of zweifuss’ sprites on photoshop viewing each color, then manually entering the RGB values in palmod. Slightly monotonous but doesn’t take too long. A few colors I had to make an educated guess, but they can’t be off by more than a few hue or sat points. The only difference is that this Necro has yellow electricity and purple SA1 electricity while the console version has light blue and pink, respectively. I will start working on Start + HP (red skin) and Start + HK (green skin) very soon. The portraits for those two have already been posted by someone else a page back =]
