I could but I tend to only make realistic or sensible edits myself, plus it’d be great if you made one yourself - so, I will upload Makoto and Ken tonight and you can see how easy it is to get things looking that way. Sound ok?
-UPDATE-
I didn’t have time to do Ken I’m afraid, but here’s Makoto anyhow. Complete with portraits:
I haven’t labelled the grid or annotated as I figure this thread is the place to do all that shizz.
Some general notes though, making her bra a skin tone was fun but a little glitchy I think.
Um, there’s lots of unused colours at the bottom 2 rows (maybe dust clouds) - what else, my HK colour is alot like someone else’s I saw that posted before, but what the heck. All the others are just my own preference, I tried making Ryu and Ken colour gis etc, but it looked shit - I’m pretty much done with these. I made HP colour like Ikeno’s original illustration for Makoto, basically a bit darker - and that’s the one I used for the grid reference.
Consider this a beta until I have the time to go through and check every last pixel of every frame.
now that’s the next level, congratulations man, that’s very nice and subtle colour combinations.
I can’t say anything constructive (if there is anything to say) unless I get time to play with them, but yes, as you said the skin-bra seems a bit weird, (plus you give up one detail in a not character that has a minimal design) but that’s a funny try
I have no time to check/patch/play now but I’ll do that soon (yours too Poot )
damn you all, now I’ll have to start playing Makoto !
It’s a little obvious, but I’ve done similar ones for Ryu, Ken and Gouki just without the red belt as it meant red hair also or something like that
[UPDATE]
Here’s Chun’s new pallette too now I have time to post it up. Let me know what you guys think and it might spur me on to finish the last few characters I have left
None of these colours are based on anything, Chun Li was hard to figure out though as the colour for her bracelets is also the darkest line on her legs - which makes pale legs hard. Overall though I’m pleased with these and I haven’t seen any bad pixels yet.
I’m surprised no one made an original Ryu with brown hair yet . Download below is original Ryu with brown hair ( Instead of black hair with blue highlights ) .
I absolutely agree - I don’t know what Capcom’s artists were thinking when they gave him a blue rinse, it looks lame. I’m still adding touches to my Ryu and Ken pallettes but all of Ryu’s have brown or black hair.
I think soon there should be a patch , that will be decided somewhere on whats the best colors , and will replace every color ( EX should be switch with original color if decided ) . It would be actually neat to be honest , that way all colors are new , and hopefully kaillera users can use this for fun
That sir, is exactly what I’m working on… I have about 4 characters left and each colour on each pallette for each character is changed, so in a sense it’s a 100% alternate colour scheme. You can use this on kaillera too, it works fine.
EX colours and supers… I played around with these some already, and tried different colours and stuff. Overall, I’ve left them as is, because we’re so used to the parrying and EX colours as they are it just seemed silly to change them, plus it looked all gimmicky you know? I might still try something when all’s done. I’d certainly like to alter things in the backgrounds and titles.
Life bars, Ken’s subway, Makoto having a lemon tree instead of an orange tree etc… that’d be fun and a challenge to keep original looking. We definitely need some Poison and Effie edits!!
Nice edits from all of you guys. You guys should show your work on http://versuscolors.com/ Now has a 3s general thread and guys should join in and contribute to a dedicated color modding forums.
Hey !
ok, Let, your chuns look great, I need to try them a bit more to come back with constructive feedback… or not
About a Patch, I also think that would be great, but deciding on which colour looks best is another story, I mainly would be glad to see a complete Let patch, but I also like a few of my pals and some other’s as well. (and I bet others do feel the same)
I really doubt you can bring everyone to an agreement on colours as it is also highly related on taste.
…
but we can try
I also thought of changing the EX colours, but as you said, it would get in the way, gameplay wise.
(Maybe we could add the boss patch too… it’s not like I would use the bosses and/or have any kind oh respect for anyone using gill to beat me on 2df, but I don’t know… it feels like wasting something, not adding them when you can, what do others think?)
Modding a bit the background’s graphics wouldn’t hurt as long as you keep it in the game’s spirit, but for now it’s still fantasy.
There’s no way we could get a final decision on what’s best - different people have different tastes. What we can do is present all the options like in this thread and show people how to pick and choose the ones they want - that should be simple.
I’m not fussed about backgrounds really but I’d love to change Gill (effects could be tricky), Poison and Effie still.
What I’d REALLY like is if we can change the start logo and select screen portraits. I’d like to see if I can bring them in line with all my LP colours now.
On a seperate note I was playing with Q’s pallettes last night, he’s seriously messed up… It’s like Capcom rushed him out or something because his colours are all over the place. I can’t get the shading on his legs to look right at all as it’s inherently all wrong, it’s getting on my nerves as I don’t think it’s fixable. I have Q, Necro, Alex, Elena Yun and Yang left plus some further tweaking on Ken and Ryu so I’m not as close to finishing as I’d like, but I’ve got a good bulk done so far.
Has anyone had much luck with Q? I really need help with this one as I’m stumped…
q is a bitch to work with. his worst boxes are the ones for the brim of his hat and the darkest colors of his gloves and mask. they are everywhere on his animations where they shouldn’t be. i wanted to do a black and tan q and i almost pulled it off but the brim of his hat is used as a shadow on his coat during his walking animation, and it’s a dark shadow to begin with so no tan hat unless he has a white coat
Hmm I see… In general I’ve kept the hat the same colour but I did wonder why it had seperate colour allocations.
The thing I find worse, are his trousers and shoes. The mask and coat shades I can deal with but the legs… They have weird shading going on and if you make it the same colour throughout then it really messes it up.
I’m not going to give up on him, what I want to do is fix just one colour scheme and then post that, so I and others can use it as a template to make more from.
What I’m talking about is the amount of difference from lightest shade to darkest on his coat for example. In Dudley’s case, if you bunch them together it can make the material look soft, or in Chun’s case you can spread them to make material look silky or shiny (like I tried in her EX and HK a bit). This is the part I find most fun but in Q’s case it’s a nightmare to begin with.
I’m really starting to think his animations were rushed or something as it makes no sense to do it the way it is - it’s really unorganised when everyone else’s aren’t. Maybe that’s why he has no stage and a crappy ‘appearing’ animation!
haven’t tested the newer one yet, so I have no idea if it includes fixes for 3S
also I have no time to get in touch with Suupa right now but I’ll tell him to come have a look around here
'later
EDIT :::
ok, I couldn’t resist to give it a shot
so, it works with 3S, seems fixed, and the copy/paste selected colours works !
However, lets keep to the old PALMOD for edits and test this one so that Suupa can take out every bug, I’m begining the bugs list :
-Shin Akuma removed
-Portraits removed (SuupaBuu had told me he didn’t have time to readd them, he should do that later)
-“close” option doesn’t close anything on the preview and export image window
So what are the benefits of this new version? The old one worked fine for me apart from one colour in the portraits was bugged as transparent, but I found my own way of getting around that using Palmod 2 in addition.
Copy and paste has always worked for me in Palmod 1 and I don’t think I could do without it, it’s essential - have you guys been editing without it??!
So, this one has a UI revision which is nice I have to admit. I’m not fussed about the export image, I either print screen or save my snaps in MAME when I test the animations, so I doubt I’d use that anyway.
Why is Shin Gouki gone?? I wanted to still make a pallette for him that looked evil as fuck.
Will we ever see Effie and Poison and Gill?
I’m not being unappreciative as this little program has brought me alot of joy but I don’t see what there is to benefit from in this new version apart from a few bugfixes. I was hoping it’d work with zero 3 and Super Turbo but they don’t work so it’s 3S only? - Oh, I just saw it’s mainly for MVC2 - ok.
Like I said, I’m confused
Do we hound suupa like he asked until we get Poison, Effie and Gill?
hu… now I’m confused about which version you’re using, I use the one linked on the first post, which doesn’t have a copy paste, there was a more recent PALMOD, but it was completely fucked for 3S.
So, yes, I (and from what I understood) Poot too, always edited without it, which makes it painstaking, yes.
I think he just forgot about shin gouki or didnt have the time as for portraits, he’ll be back sooner or later
I also take screens in game, so I don’t care much about the image export
about other games, I dunno, you can ask suupa
I think it’s now or never, as stated on the post, he made it easier to enter new chars/entries, so we should now ask him to show us how to find said entries and enter them so we can continue by ourselves on expanding PALMOD.
I actually got Palmod from a tutorial on versuscolours.com, so I guess I’ve been using the new version with the glitched portraits. BUT, I have the other one and let me explain my setup (as it helps with the new version out).
I open Palmod twice, and have one window above the other. One loads the standard pallettes and one loads my alternate pallette. That way, I can copy and paste bits, reference, have a small 1X zoom and a 3X zoom when I edit - it helps alot.
When it comes to portraits I have one palmod open with say LP sprite, one window with LP portrait, and one window with the old palmod so I can see the unglitched version. This saves so much time on portraits as you can go through each colour and copy and paste the headband for RYU really quick on each colour for example. I hope that makes sense. Luckily, one version of palmod open will still copy and paste into another palmod running.
To think of it in terms of 2 or 3 new tabs in internet explorer makes more sense I suppose.
So who knows suupa best? How can we persuade him to show us what we need to know about the extra characters? With any luck he may put them in himself? Who wants to ask? Maybe we could use this thread to show him the demand
