A combination like this would be godlike. No air blocking, different ism’s, custom combos, fast game speed, air juggles, anti-air’s deal shit-ton of damage. Yes!
About crossovers… I think they need to take a little break with that. Everybody is crossing with everybody in this recent gen of FGs and I think its getting milked too much. DOA had VF. Injustice had Scorpion (which IIRC, nobody wanted or asked for), the infamous SFxT and lets not forget UMvC3. I hear MK is adding guests soon, too? Imo, crossovers should happen on a rare occasion, not when everyone else is doing it because it then loses the appeal of having guest characters to me at least. The hype is essentially gone. “Yay, another crossover. Can’t wait to play MK X Tekken - SF ÷ Naruto Shippuden Ultimate…” You get the point. Its overdone and needs a little break now.
All they really need to do is fix the neutral game, which means stripping out SF4’s excess baggage (input shortcuts, focus attacks, crouch teching, obscene backdash invulnerability, extra-long hard knockdowns, etc.) and making normals function like they did in older games (bigger hitboxes, more active frames, more block stun, more damage, etc.). As long as that aspect of the game is correctly implemented, the rest will fall into place. The Alpha and CvS series had plenty of stupid meter-based bullshit, but they were still very playable because the bullshit was anchored to a solid neutral game.
I wonder if there’s a trend towards avoiding large hitboxes within certain people in the industry in general. I recall even some KoF players have been critical of the hitboxes in XIII due to their size.
My only hope is that they trust their own view of street fighter and try to portray their vision as best as they can. Fans in general never know what they want. So here’s hoping that they don’t try to make this game a love letter to the fans like they tried to do with SF4, and that they make the game with their best interests in mind and not everyone elses, while keeping the core game in tact.
Make a new engine, or use Unreal or something.
Put in actual effort.
Fast walk speeds please.
Please for the love of god don’t make everyone suck.
Focus and related silliness should die in a fire. So many of the game’s problems stem from the inclusion of focus.
Build a robust set of universal defenses that cannot be stacked like SF4’s can.
Just give me a simple game where I can play footsies and where basic pressure is good and moving around feels nice, basically.
If people want shitty rival schools characters to guest feature, they should petition for a new rival schools. As I said, Street Fighter is Street Fighter, the Fighting Game that started it all. I don’t think guest characters make a difference in terms of sales, I wouldn’t be inclined to buy Street Fighter due to the characters but the fact it’s a new next gen Street Fighter.
But anyway, I’d like to see like a next generation 2D! Keep the classic characters and makes heaps of new ones!
They used up the nostalgia for the casuals, now they can use it for the serious players by returning the gameplay to what it used to be.
I can agree with all this (don’t really care about the pretzel motion stuff), but would like throws to go back to SFII style, soften only and make holds unique and strategic, throws loops were challenging to set up/escape.
Also, links aren’t inherently bad but one frame links should not be intentionally designed into the game just for the sake of being difficult. There was no reason for Vega’s jabs to be one frame links into themselves for most (all?) of SFIV.
Also of course smaller reversal windows so meaties can be good and oki can actually feel like the person on their feet actually has the advantage.
SF4 is just a perfect storm of things that aren’t necessarily bad in and of themselves turning into bs when put together:
Link-based combos? Not a horrible thing (maybe too many 1-framers but that’s somewhat of a different topic)
Autoblock? Again, fine by itself.
Getting a reversal to come out basically at will? Again, KOF basically has that and isn’t ruined by it.
…now put all three into the same game. With a netcode that varies the amount of input lag online. End result: That stuff Kusaregedo flings at people.
This should really play like Street Fighter Alpha, faster pace, air block, emphasis on the block gauge, probably Alpha Counters… I’m a little tired of Street Fighter IV pace and fighting style, this time the Alpha nostalgia should take over. They could maintain some things of III/IV, like the EX moves.
For competitively minded people, playing with lag can fuck with inputs and, win or lose, isn’t fun at all. Nobody likes to lose, especially due to something as dumb as lag.
I can enjoy SFIV with my (shitty) AT&T service, but that doesn’t mean that others are having a good time like us. There been countless people complaining about the netcode even on 360. So, to be safe, Capcom **should ** use GGPO by now since it’s working great with OE, MvC: O, and DSR.
Hasn’t every Street Fighter game use links? There’s nothing wrong with links except 1-frame links (fucking busting my ass with Sakura’s tatsu loops). If no links, then what do you want?
