Which is why it could/should be done but is highly unlikely. Although it wouldn’t be easy and have high man hour cost, it would be not only a distinguishing feature but a point of pride.
That said, as everyone transitions to higher-spec cell phones, who even cares right?
SNK-P already tried that, and it almost bankrupt them.
No point in trying when you’ve already shown the 3D on 2D works, and when there’s tech that makes 3D look just as good, or even better than 2D sprites (hello GGXrd).
add in a guard meter.
isms would be cool.
three stock supers.
multiple supers a character.
alpha counters.
same values of frame advantage on hit or block.
Simplified fighting system, red focus is going too far. We need to strip down a bit and simplify things make it more difficult and basic. Keep it to the street fighter basics but still avoid spammy gameplay in high end matches. I think we should look at whether or not throws are working as intended in netplay as well…
2d graphics like KOFXIII+3s but even more fluid like the 3d animations of SF4.
Ink mode on any outfit for consoles and PC.
Or we could have straight up cartoon graphics like Kuni. I really like USF4 art especially how Sakura looks much older in her still art on the Vs screen.
Rainbow, Maki, ect.
Balance out the fireball game / characters versus each other.
Capcom’s always done this as seen with every main installment of SF except SF1. 5 versions of SF2, 3 versions of SF3, 3 versions of Alpha with one update of A2 and two updates of A3. Then we have 5 versions of SF4. So Capcom has a long history of SF revisions and I doubt it’s gonna change with SF5.
But I never mentioned other Versions. I know that with new versions there is going to be ballance tweaks, and like with a lot of the newer versions of SF it could also mean semi-to-major gameplay/mechanic changes to the games system, and I’m fine with all that. As long as it’s just new “Versions” like the ones you mentioned and not something too Drastic like Hot Fixes etc, etc Im good with it.
When they do revisions for SF5 I want the changes to be more substantial. I want it to be more than frame adjustments with the occasional new characters and modes.
I’m completely in agreement with the aesthetic direction of Xrd. I think it’s amazing and we will really start to see visuals develop in new creative directions as technological grunt continues to improve, higher resolutions etc.
However, I am still interested in what is possible in terms of traditional 2D pixel art on current/next gen platforms from an artistic/aesthetic POV. It’s entirely selfish and as others have pointed out, likely impractical/financially unviable… still would be cool to see.
Meanwhile - did pixel art really almost bankrupt them? Point me in the direction of sauce, please.
I don’t have the link anymore. But there was an article or interview during the time when XIII was announced that mentioned this, more specifically, how they had to gamble everything by releasing a game that was basically unfinished (XII) hoping that it would make enough for them to be able to release a finished game later on (XIII).
