Killer jigglypuff made a post in another thread where he said that tha buff to her ultra 2 will help her a lot against fireballs. I’m pretty sure it will help her a lot against Sagat, too.
As for Abel, that’s true, but again, Abel was considered a bad character then, and the match evolved a lot, only recently people started to call it even (both Mike Chow and 801 Strider eliminated Snake Eyez in recent tournaments)
I don’t think Guile was worse for Honda in super - if anything, it was easier. Guile was stronger, but so was Honda. Honda had much more dmg, which means he could kill Guile much easier, trades were in Honda’s favour, better blockstun for Hands meant better pressure after getting in, and the most important - jump Mp was much better - a crucial aspect in this matchup, since Honda relies a lot on jumping.
The nerf to his jump mp alone made this match more terrible for Honda since AE.
Super version has a better st.hk, a j.lk that reliably crosses, a better backdash to reliably combo DP into U1. Really the only truly good thing about vanilla Cammy as compared to super was her DP did better damage vs grounded opponents.
As for the V.Akuma matchup, he loses U2, which gives a chip in his vortex resistance. He does more damage, but isn’t that really just evening the odds a little? Super Cammy was the lowest damaging version of the character and that version is probably still the best in that matchup.
did you not watch the exhibition? game 2 round 1 velociraptor ultra gouken vs lpn vanilla akuma came down to velociraptor getting his ass kicked only to comeback with a single crouch fierce fireball, upwards fireball U2. then round 2 ended with lpn’s wake up teleport getting caught by OS U2. honestly, i thought gouken always did relatively okay vs sagat. also lpn might not be the best akuma player (i didnt even know he played akuma) but that exhibition really proved to me at least that characters have a fighting chance against the vanilla power houses minus the fact that gamerbee counterpicking mike ross with vanilla sagat, but im sure mike could of made it happen if he didnt switch to vanilla sagat as well, but sagat vs honda has been a bad match up since the beginning of time
I actually think that V.Akuma’s vortex was easier to block than all the current versions. I don’t have the evidence to prove it, but IMO ambiguous setups got harder to block in Super. It felt like that proximity blocking activated earlier and stayed like that so there was much less chance of blocking the wrong way.
RE: V.Boxer. It wasn’t just his damage, it was his hitboxes as well. His j.hp was so good he could actually safe-jump Ryu’s DP.
did vanilla boxer have some kind of problem where he got pushed back abnormally far from blocking attacks making it really hard to apply pressure to him?
He’s had that problem in every version of the game and it’s one of my most requested bug fixes. It makes him artificially strong. There are situations for example where comboing into cr.hp xx tatsu with Ryu won’t connect because of his hitbox.
Guile even? doubtful. Cammy and Fei maybe but just the fact that they will have to WORK to get close and V. Sagat can defend himself changes the match.
When one jump in could cost you over half life, you are going to think twice.
Juri actually beats his buttons by design. Alot of the other chars beat Sagat due to the dead zone that V. Sagat doesnt have but other versions do.
The best Fei vs Sagat is probably Super. No meter CW combo for fat damage
Also guys seriously less focus on Gat, more focus on Seth and Gouki the true monarchs of the sf4 series.
Gat got nerfed and was average. Gouki and Seth got nerfed and stayed top tier. Doesnt that mean something?
I think super guile has good enough zoning to do damage. At the very least sagat will need to be on point to effectively zome him out and win the match. Juri might lose but I think its a situation where sagat needs to play very honest and solid, no gimmicks or mix ups just solid fundamental play.
They’ll tear him a couple of new assholes at least, Akuma specially, only good thing going on for Ultra edition Gouken is that he has the option to use delayed wakeup, otherwise this shit would have been guaranteed 7-3 or worse in Vanilla Akuma’s favor.
Man I’d love to use some Vanilla Gief again, if the matchup isn’t stupid like vs Vanilla Sagat or Seth, he’s going to literally SMASH things around, 1200 HP, very high damage, EX GH knockdown, 3f cr.lk and dat vanilla lariat lol.
I miss vanilla SF4, the damage there was much closer to what you’d see in SF2 compared to the rest of SF4 series.
