Vanilla Seth is underrated. His teleport is way faster, dive kick also faster and lower and better hit stun. higher damage (beside that spin kick which only hit for 120 damage). But vanilla seth has lower HP/stun and higher sonic boom recovery.
I wonder how V.Gouki will fare against AE Yun or 2012 Cammy or AE Fei. His vortex game is almost perfect except for U2 missing which result in v2012 Gouki will be useful in match up such as vs Cody or Balrog.
For anyone that wonder why AE Fei is low tier, his CW was crap in Vanilla (very slow) and most of the console character is considered low tier due to less be researched.
AE and Vanilla top tier will be the characters that dominate due to less reliance on DW (for Vanilla Ryu, his safe jump will be heavily affected, V.Gouki also but he can play zoning/hit and run. For AE Yun and V.Sagat, they can just burst their way straight through)
I’ve been playing since the first day of Vanilla. But I didn’t take it that seriously until Super. That’s when I started attending tournaments and researching other characters move sets to see if I can punish them or not and how they interact with my own character. By then Vanilla lariat was gone, but I see it mentioned every now and then. What was so scary about it?
I do remember being terrified of it, just can’t remember for sure why I was. Some bit that I can remember was that when I blocked it and wanted to punish, I’d get hit by the later spns. Did it have more back and forth movement or something like that? Just wondering because it’s been a long time and my memory of that move is kind of foggy now.
yeah im foggy on it, but i can remember it having active frames for days that you couldnt duck under. like you said, you’d go to punish after the first spin with a crouching normal and it would still hit you. then it seemed like it recovered pretty quick too
back then you had to let him finish spinning and try to be quick enough to hit his recovery without getting spd’ed or ultra’ed
but i was an uber scrub back then so i might have a haunted memory
I believe they drastically reduced the hitbox. Now you can throw out a normal during lariat and either hit the arm or his legs, before I believe he had lower body invincibility and whatever you threw at the arm would get obliterated by the massive hitbox.
the vanilla lariat hitbox went incredibly low, blanka had trouble SLIDING IT unless he waited until active frames were over. It was also a better anti air.
I remember a Japanese vid on NicoNico demonstrating how Abel beats Gief’s lariat in the corner. Most of the vid was just the uploader trying and failing.
Event scrubs had a poll for strongest SF4 character ever and V. Sagat is first. I feel like he is the mouth piece for a diabolical organization, and he serves to distract the masses (casuals), while the the real guys who run shit, skulk in the shadows. (V. Gouki and V.Seth)
Pretty sure Sagat gets around the same damage or more off of YOLO DP FADC ultra compared to Goukens corner full punish combo. That comparison should give you an idea of how many matches Sagat can easily snag from gouken.
