SF4 @ Chinatown Fair

I was there Wednesday and Thursday.

I was like the only dude using Abel.

actually walking down mott from canal is shorter walking bowery means you have to wrap around.

I went today and the shit was crowded but organized. I got to play a nice amount and I’m feeling the game. I was the white dude with the backward yankee hat playing ryu for the peeps that don’t know me.

Anyway I only really got to fuck with ryu today cause I wanted to get as much play time as I could. Only thing that seems weird is a deep jab dp from ryu gets stuffed a lot and sometimes trades, ex dp seemed to work though. Also it’s kinda hard to tell whats punishable and shit at first glance, it’s a little weird with the 3d models and all but the game feels and plays great.

Oh yeah it also seemed hard to see the difference between ex fireballs and regular fireballs at times. Mostly against Sagat. I might just need to play more and look but it just seemed hard to notice.

I’m going again during this week or over the weekend. I’m hooked.

Yeah, thats actually a bit true about the EX Fireball thing, you really have to pay attention when in a fireball battle. Especially against Guile. It looks almost exactly the same as a normal Sonic Boom, plus its the fastest Fireball in the game, so it can really catch you by surprise.

I was there from opening to 6-ish. Awesome games to everyone. I was the guy in the black and yellow socks using Ken.

Huge props/thanks to Akuma for the tips/GG’s/fun times.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo… what’s a good day/time to come and play without being overwhelmed by people familiar with the game?

Or is it straight 1994 status?

EDIT: 1994 = SF2 mania.

Most of the people who were playing today were playing for the first time especially in the earlier hours. There was a ton of people though.

Well, I’m definitely going early tomorrow and early Monday. There shouldn’t be many people coming at the opening time of CF tomorrow, and especially Monday.

And I don’t know how bad SF2 was, it was before my time. = [

Oh yeah something else that was funny. Landing a lvl 1 FA with ryu on sagat will get you ultra’d (or superd, not sure)

I was pretty sure I seen a vid once where someone canceled a lvl 1 FA into a fireball with ryu. I think it was in the early preview vids though. I was trying it today an it didn’t work.

Yeah I figured that opening times–especially on weekdays–would be the way to go. As for SF2 mania, I was pretty young myself. I remember back when SF2 and MK were first out (1991 on actually, not 1994), there were people at all arcade cabinets–NONSTOP. From convenience stores to bowling alley’s.

Hah, so this is what I get for picking up sticks after a year of not touching them. Plus trying to learn C.Viper in that environment = not a good idea. At least I got a win with Vega and hit the df+hk ex walldive combo. That’s very fun. I’ll probably come around more often once Henry gets those extra cabs in. $50 trip to play 6 games just really isn’t too worth it.

I was the dude that looked like Viewtiful Joe.

what are the hours for the arcade?

I’m pretty sure its:

Weekdays
12PM - 12AM

Weekends
12PM - 2AM

Today was really fun, not as packed as I imagined it would be. There seemed to be maybe fifteen people at most on the list at any given time. Went with my brother from 3-7 (short Asian guys with glasses and backpacks) I (Winwit) played a scrubby ass Ryu and he played turtle Guile. Thanks to Akuma for keeping things organized, won’t forget the match where he got owned by Sagat (Joe?) spamming standing roundhouse.

joe knows, st rh rapes all

joe i got a bag of tricks for your sagat from sakura’s last ranbat

hollllllllllla at me

man when i was there was a million people crowded around but i still got to play…i was the kid with the green hat…a bookbag on and a super mario necklace.

I was the shorter white guy with glasses and a shaved head playing Sagat today. Joe was the Sagat that didnt rely on scrubby shit till I xcopied his shit then I turned pretty solid.

Tell me too D:

ill definately be there tomorrow so if u recognize me say wassup

ill b going tommorow. look for the guy wearing a hat and playin c viperlol

so would you guys say it’s better to go during Monday - Thursday than the weekend or is it still gonna be pack regardless. I’ve heard about this place but never been there when I was in high school my boys use to talk about it I usally use to go to xs, barcode, laser tag or broadway new york I wish em spots were still around. I remember when hyper fighting came out the laundry mat had a line that went outside the door and when super came out forget about it! I’m surprise I even got to play hyper fighting dudes would be there 24-7 with a cup of quaters LOL
