Seth SSFIV: AE Loc Test Impressions (News, Venting, Etc.)

Thanks bro, we need all the support we can get.

Pfft haven’t seen Art break out Seth since he smacked Henry Cen @ Guard crush (hype fight btw!). I dunno perhaps this could be a change for the better imo I’d prefer if Seth was forced to play a more aggressive game as long as he gets the hp/dmg to back it up…

I like how you guys call me out for not playing him yet i was the probably the first besides poongko to have the balls to pick him in competitve play. I’m sorry I’m not like the rest of you guys that suffers for making 1 mistake. He’s used for strategic matches (like vs Henry.) Now that my piece of the puzzle is gone, I dunno what I’m going to do. there were certain matchups with seth i knew very very well

Nah no hate, I’m just salty cuz no one uses Seth often enough for me to analyze and learn from, so I have to play and learn on my own amahgawd :P.
But on a serious note I just wish we had more a voice here, the whole forum is in distress but what do we do but bitch and moan. I mean the Cammy forum has a petition for to get their TKCS back shouldn’t we attempt to do something to help vocalize how we think our character is getting gutted for little to no reason? (in before “lol petition”)

Well I mean… its kinda true that you havent used him lately

well i do play seth in casuals just to keep sharp, its just that its hard to find the right situation to bust him out in tourney cause hes risky.

LOL petition.

Plus, do you really know if Capcom is gutting your character? It’s obvious Capcom wouldn’t do something as drastic as taking away j.HP without giving him some new options. Of all of the changes to all of the characters Seth is probably going to be the most changed both nerf and buff wise of any character. Capcom just wants Seth to be focused on something different gameplay wise and instread of wasting time on a petition that won’t do anything you’re better off just waiting to hear exactly what Seth got in exchange first. He definitely is going to get something to compensate.

Honestly the only thing F tier about Seth is the people playing him. He’s a solid B tier IMO if someone really works on him. As a Seth player you should be trying to learn and create things on your own. Seth has a tool for just about every situation and it’s pretty obvious when you watch people like Poongko do well with him. Sure he can die in 2 combos but that shouldn’t stop you from using a character that has plenty of tools to be extremely creative with. Come up with your own shit.

I personally wouldn’t spend too much time with Seth if I felt I could never figure out anything with him on my own. You have to be a creative player to use Seth. If you play Seth and wonder “what should I be doing?” you probably shouldn’t be picking him.

Wow take a pill… perhaps I just enjoy watching some high level Seth play in my down time and anyone who does that if they know it or not will end up learning something. Was I sitting there saying “yo Sabin main seth so I can play like you!” no just making a comment how there aren’t many Seth players. Yeah It looks like Seth is in for some big changes and I hope he is changed for the better does it look like that right now? No. You sitting all high and mighty in front of your lcd sreen talking down to people because of a single joking comment…yeah real mature.

I did

is that picture of silver surfer dying?

edit: oh wow maybe i should read the thread.

great post btw deviljin i agree 100%

Best thing when playing as Seth: standing in place at the start of a match.

No one knows shit yet to be honest, deal with it. Also, maybe you should reread his post because deviljin isn’t talking ‘down to you’

With your mindset even if Seth got better you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of it. There’s a point where u just have to want to be better for yourself and understand the game well enough to figure things out for yourself. That’s especially important if not many other top players are using your main.

Joking or not be prideful of the character that you main if you are going to main them. That’s all I’m saying. These fail avatars are funny for like 2 seconds then it just goes to show that no one is really pushing their main character. Seth is one of the easiest characters to change in play style because of the fact that he has no one specific play sytle. He can do a little bit of everything and Capcom realizing that is changing aspects until they find something they really want with him. This happens all the time in other games but it happens with one character in SFIV and of course…

Appreciate your character and the potential of what could happen for the better with the new release. I would just like to see people confident in the character that they main.** Hakan and Makoto players have more pride than you guys…**

I also play Cammy. The things you could do with Tiger Knee Canon Strike… omg! I feel victimised. Still I hope, she somehow retains it, like Capcom have a change of heart or something. The thing is this Arcade Edition is gonna be very different because we have new characters joining (some of which are unkown) which means new match ups and stuff, so all the characters have to be re balanced with this in mind. At the end of the day guys as much as we love Seth, if he doesn’t suit the way you want to play, then play a character who does, I will be doing the same… hopefully he will be a rushdown king though.

Um… Fuck you then?

As long as you don’t say fuck you to Seth. LOL.

People are taking things a little too far here with the hate towards each other.

Personally I’m the kind of guy that sticks to one character for better or worse in a game. I used Oro in 3S for the better part of a decade and used Seth since the second week of console Vanilla. I told Seth Killian that I’ll stick with Seth even if he becomes the worst character in the game (which, in this arcade build, he may very well be). I’m also the kind of guy that whines like a baby about bad matchups, complains endlessly about changes made to my character, and blindly defends my character when other people hate on it. That’s me.

I also admit that my love for the game has diminished steadily since the release of Super. And yet, here I am complaining almost as loudly as anybody else here. Heh.

DevilJin, I respect you, but let us wallow in our self-pity. :frowning: And Arturo knows that I’m <3 status for him.

Is there any point to this post? Nah. I’m on sleep dep due to a stuffed nose and just got home from teaching high school math. asdlkjfhakjdsghfkjrhzzzzzzz…

I’d like to know where Capcom got the impression that Seth’s j.hp (or anything that was nerfed for that matter) was overpowered. They have to be analyzing match videos or taking advice from somewhere. The only matches Seth had a distinct advantage in were against grapplers.

Nothing that was nerfed was difficult to avoid or counter other than the ultra 1 trap; which could be somewhat avoided by careful spacing and match planning (IE Gief wouldn’t have to worry much if he got in and stayed there. Shoto’s wouldn’t have worry much if they stay in footsie range rather than trying to fireball war).

I don’t believe they do, if you look at the other changes they’ve made it seems they’re just trying to make the game more rush down orientated… so questions remain as to why akuma still has his air fireballs and gouken still has his random guess work fb’s etc, though ignoring this issue… I think what people should be focusing on now is what else with Seth will have had to have changed in order for this change to not make him dan tier and keep him competitive:

He will now have to be more rush down orientated, meaning his health/stun will probably need to be increased slightly (e.g. ~900), as well as his damage and stun output AT LEAST being restored to his vanilla levels. I also believe his walk speed would want an increase and his sb’s would want a shorter recovery time. divekick should return to its vanilla version. As his U1 is useless now (if it has all the same hit properties), I imagine it would need to be srk xx fadc > u1 able, that way it’s still viable to pull off against most of the cast and the lower damage and lack of options compared to u2 would be made up for by the reset option you still get after u1, meaning which ultra you pick is more free choice than character dependant.

Bug’s that need fixing: U2 recovery… lower priority (not massive problems with game play); super hit box (stop 1 hit supers), ex tanden from air bug, u1 missing damage bug.

That’s all my thinking for now, maybe others can contribute or argue against what I’ve just suggested.

Yeah my allergies are messing me up. Happens with the weather I guess.

It’s easy to just wallow up in pity over shit that u don’t understand but I know in the future shit will get better. Just continue to play the character and strive to take whatever new Capcom gives u to create a new gameplan with Seth. I think the fact that Seth changes so often is rather interesting and rather reminiscent of Guilty Gear where the characters change all the time. It’s just something new to assimilate and get used to. I mean Seth is basically a shapeshifting character as it is so if any character is going to get changed up wildly it’s going to be him.

I’m really excited to see what new stuff Seth does get cuz obviously taking something as important as j.HP away means he is getting some new good shit.
