that wont work if its blocked. It have 18 frames recovery, but 20 frames block stun.
I have tested this many times it dont work
According to the Frame Data…
LK Slam: -2 on Block
MK Slam: -2 on Block
HK Slam: -3 on Block
Ex Slam: -2 on Block
I tested it last night where the dummy would execute the Slam and immediately cancel into Ex Headbutt, and you can SPD it. I will further test against my room mates Honda.
I have seen Zangiefs piledriver take hondas ex headbutt, so I am sure seth can take it aswell. however honda can do another buttslam and seth cant SPD it.
I could be wrong
Any advise on the Blanka Matchup? Seems like Seth loses this one 4-6 or so, played a really good one from my state for a couple hours, it’s hard to rush him down because of reversal balls, and it’s scary to attack on his wakeup because of reversal Ultra, it’s also hard to zone him out with fireballs because of the slide.
The only thing I can see in Seth’s favor is on Blanka wakeup with no Ultra, dive kick beats most upballs for a reset or free BnB…
Anything else?
On block you can punish his horizontal ball with HP, super and ultra.
On block you can punish his rainbow ball with fwd.jump and doing headstomps x3, divekick. Or again use HP, super, ultra. (don’t know if LK rainbowball still gives you the window for stomps)
Jumpback LP beats upball (don’t know if the same counts for n/fwd.jump)
I prefer not to be anywhere near a Blanka with ultra, but i do know EX shoryken beats his ultra if he starts it at close range.
If you’re playing online, and he whiffs an upball, hit him out of the air with something, because i noticed that online+(almost?)no recovery once he hits the ground stops you from doing pretty much anything and 9 times out of 10 i end up eating a throw or ball…
anything for seth vs sagat ? its such a broken matchup
Seth can fight Sagat until he gets hit, lol. Seth has the tools, the thing that makes this match-up difficult is Sagat’s high health and damage out put vs Seth’s low life and low damage out put.
Well that helps him lots lol =P
I’m not that great against really good Sagat players (i usually spend 80 seconds getting them to 10% health and then eat a TU>FADC>f.HK>Ultra and get KO’d) but some basic stuff i’ve noticed that tends to work on the tigershot spamming kind, which is when you have meter you can Focus Absorb>Dash forward trough a tigershot, then buffer the motion for legs and hit two kick buttons if you see another tigershot coming. If not do a neutral jump because you’re probably withing range by then and they’ll be thinking about doing a tiger knee, which you can then punish on your way down with HP,cr.MKxxLegs. Also a welltimed headstomp on their wakeup seems to beat their wakeup uppercut. Other ways of closing in are short jumps (fwd jump>divekick). Other people with more experience of the matchup might be more helpful, but this is a start =)
The #1 rule of Seth: Don’t get hit by the opponent’s ultra. Seth is unique in that his offense is good but he has such a glass jaw that you can’t afford to get hit by DP FADC ultra. Really if you get a life lead versus Sagat don’t do anything risky. All of his options versus you suck especially if you have ultra.
If Sagat is trying to zone you with Tiger Shots try to stay within standing fierce distance. Only focus absorb Tiger Shots from this distance to make sure they’re not EX and never absorb more then one until your health recovers. Then when he throws a low Tiger Shot do neutral jump fierce. If he does a high Tiger Shot do standing fierce. These moves can often stuff Tiger Shots before they come out. Also as previously mentioned EX Hyakuretsu Kyaku will go through projectiles, so be on the look out when you have meter and are in range. This is especially good if Sagat is cornered so you can get your stomps into mix up. Timed well EX Hyakuretsu Kyaku will also beat Tiger Knee. Do NOT do a wall jump against a low Tiger Shot it recovers fast and gives Sagat a low (harder to hit) hit box. Generally avoid wall jumping Tiger Shots unless of course he is being predictable and stupid.
If Sagat is trying to get in and do damage (perhaps because you have the life lead) this plays right into Seth’s hands. Hit him with neutral jump fierce and jump back fierce if and when he attempts to jump over your Sonic Booms. Don’t be predictable with this move, especially when Sagat is on the ground… Tiger Uppercut hurts Seth bad, but feel free to bait it and punish accordingly. This goes without saying but if he jumps in on you, you must Shoryuken his ass.
If you want to get in on Sagat (and rush him down), my best advice is to be patient. Dive kick over Tiger Shots to get closer, dash back sometimes upon landing, focus absorb if you’re far enough away, standing fierce when you are wih range… try and be unpredictable as you slowly edge your way in… and once you’re there you must be on point with your mix ups and execution, be aware of the Tiger Uppercut after dive kicks and upon knockdown, especially if Sagat has 2 bars.
Ultra Tiger Shots and jumps.
MP Super if he jumps a Sonic Boom from full screen (timing is the same as Ultra, the peak of the jump)
This should help you get started. But once you get comfortable with the match up and with using Seth, it won’t seem too hard… hopefully, lol.
I have experience fighting against Violent Alioune (his Ryu is also crazy good) hope my experience helps you.
good stuff
how about bison? i know it SHOULDNT be too hard matchup but my recently losses are always vs him
Are you talking about Dictator? i.e. the Shadaloo boss? People say this match is in Seth’s favour. I don’t have much experience against good Dictators though, so maybe someone else can help you. I think LP SPD can punish scissor kicks on block. I know OnlineTony213 has fought Hugo101 (an excellent Dictator) alot, so his insight will be usefull. Also Kiku should be able to help, he nearly always can.
yup Dictator. i got troubles with him, more than any1 else beside sagat ad online seths on pc are more rare than cammies and most of them are terrible :s
CEO is right…that match should be in seth’s favor…
heres a video of what i’m talking about…

dude your seth is so good
very very nice job, i notice u use that sort of dive kick a lot , whys that? works like cammy cstrike?
seth IS good, but the match is still even, if not a little in Bison’s favour. I’m fairly certian you can’t punish lk SK with SPD, maybe with messed up spacing…also, mk and hk SK are hard to punish if done from the right distance.
you’re probably safer teleporting backwards if he starts using DR/HS shenanigans (in fact teleporting forward and Focusing may help if he is spamming DR’s to mindfuck u or build meter).
beware punishing distant slides, as he can throw out ex PC or SK before you can recover (SPD may help with this though).
If he has back charge and meter, he will likely ex HS or ex SK if you fireball, so be warned.
If he starts going for HS/DR during wakeup, be wary about using your ultra, as DR can avoid ultra. EVERY time he attempts to HS/DR you, you should be prepared to throw tech, just in case.
I’m sorta mixed on triangle jumping, because it IS a large part of Seth’s game, however bison can target combo you in the air (do NOT wall jump if he has ultra), or hit you with ex PC/SK, or ex HS into ex SD for insane damage against you (280 damage and 300 stun). He can also just slide when you hit the wall, you’ll go over him (unless you can dive kick properly, even then, i dunno), and you’re probably eating sMK or sHK.
ALWAYS be wary of Bison going for throws!!!
If you ever wanna practice against a good bison, feel free to add me, i’m always up for some matches
im on pc :s
y???
Cuz Its Fast…Its Like Akuma Dive Kick…
Its Good In General…
I live with our best Bison player up here, and have 2 other style Bison’s come over to my place on a regular basis. I haven’t lost to a Bison in what seems like ages.
I think it’s just personal match-up experience, but the bison’s up here all play different styles (Rush Down, Turtle, Calculated, and mixed of all). I’m waiting to test my real skill vs. a Bison who is at the top of the food chain these days, but I don’t think anything will be different considering how well I know the match-up. Please believe, every character can beat every other character.
My philosophy about this game is: From start to finish, the characters never change. There is no evolving, no leveling, no secret weapons. The only variable that changes in the person behind the character. It’s like fighting, you may think you’re an expert against a grappler, extraordinary against strikers, and impossible to lose to a submission guru. It’s all behind the styles of your opponent(s). That is why I don’t follow the tier lists as much these days, because they are constantly bouncing and is just someone else’s opinion on how good a character is. Come up with your own style/philosophy and stop caring so much about what other’s think, that is when you’ll see the truth.
To be honest, it is still just a video game, but that’s deep for even me.
P.S. Dive Kick on Balrog/Bison wake up as a meaty rocks. They HAVE to use Ex to get out, but timing well enough, you can just block whatever they throw out.
i dunno if this is known yet but i just played a gouken doing headstomp on his wakeup, he did counter move but he just absorbed the first headstomp hit without actually doing me the usual counter dmg+fly away so he got hit by other 2 headstomp hits rofl
