seth vs bison. discuss. i dont think its suppose to be a hard of a match as im making it sometimes.
I confused Bison with Balrog.
Vs Boxer:
Don’t get hit by overhead, EX Headbutt, or armor-break TAP. AA him EVERY TIME. If he down backs use tanden, cr.mk xx tanden, sonic boom, or dash up spd to break the stalemate. EX Legs/ultra/DP all rush punches. Focus is good versus dash straight, s.hk, and cr.hk. If he likes to wakeup rush punch throw/SPD him. When FADC’ing SRKs make sure you option select FADC so that if he does an EX Rush punch you don’t FADC into his fist. You can do crossup Daigo option select ultra/legs to catch wakeup TAP/whiff headbutt.
If he neutral j.hp’s over fireballs that’s a free s.hp (same for vs Honda).
If he is holding down back, don’t jump. At all. Ever. Seriously. No j.hp.
Vs Boxer (lol I confused M Bison and Balrog)
Don’t get hit by dash ultra to punish SB. If he is dashing on anticipation to your booms throw out yomi s.hp to hit him out of his dash.
Don’t s.hp just because he’s at the right range, lp straight punishes on block and he can EX upper through to punish with a full combo.
You can’t combo into cr.mp off cr.lk on rog waking up. I think you might be able to combo cr.lk xx cr.lp -> s.lp, dunno if it whiffs on him.
Don’t get hit by headbutt.
Basically pretend you’re Ryu with shitty pokes/walkspeed but better mixups.
Vs Dictator:
[list]
[]j.hp is your friend. Sonic Boom is your best friend. Dictator’s jump sucks so it’s hard for him to punish without charge/U2. If he has back charge he can EX Scissors it on reaction from 3/5 screen.
[]Jump at him at a range where he can’t AA with s.hk. He can still AA you but it’s really hard especially if you do j.mp air to air and divekick to mix up timing.
[]U1 punishes EX Psycho on block and teleport on reaction. You have to do the ultra faster than you think for the teleport, his vulnerability is when he’s still purple.
[]meaty hp DP FADC will beat all his reversals besides teleport. EX Stomp gives you stomp juggle and looks awesome.
[]hk legs punishes EX Psycho on block
[]Punish EX Scissors with s.hp xx legs
[]EX Headstomp scares me so I don’t punish it on wakeup but I think you can close s.hp it.
[]Devil’s reverse = lol free ultra! If he lands far away from you it’s also a free s.hp.
[]Don’t do shit during scissor kick strings. Either block, reversal, jump, or s.lk. Block is best.
[]crossup PC = free wakeup hp dp
[]AA with hp dp. AA crossups w/ lp dp -> stomps
[]focus is decent vs his s.hk.
[]Dictator stands a lot during footsies. s.mp is moderately useful.
[]My strategy in this matchup is to knock him down with ultra and punish any reversals he does with U1 and then just mix him up if he doesn’t reversal.

Hmm well playing a less planted character as Seth, I’ve come to learn not to play against others so much as if they’re planted also. And charge characters particularly can keep Seth at bay when they’re holding charge. Like in the case of Bison, if he’s DB’ing, it’s not much of a good idea to just jump at him be it straight jump in, or off the wall. I find myself getting headstomped when I underestimate what the Bison player has plotting.
I think this match up really forces Seth to play reactionary unless you have an opportunity for safe pressure or you can keep Bison’s charge off from toe tap + dive kick loops. Then all you have to be concerned with is if they EX something, or teleport. I don’t use OS, and I think doing so could be more risk than reward. If you can read teleports, or if that’s Bison’s only escape and he plans to use it, then I guess OS legs is a fine idea.
It would be an easier matchup if they let s.hp actually anti air. But you can use alot of tactics vs him to keep him out of the AIR. Divekick beats Headstop(non EX) Without meter he has NO options on wakeup so long as you make sure to use instant overhead to stuff his Psycho crusher and jump out options. You may also want to OS EX Legs into your moves on wakeup just to catch those teleports. Other than that you shouldn’t really have much problem. You should be able to rush him straight down. He can’t really stop you…althought I will say, If you don’t get in before he does you might wanna just put down the controller and walk away. His Scissor Kick pressure will fuck your life up and his crossup lk is annoying because his jump arch is so weird. Ultimately this match comes down to who can get the first knockdown. From far distance you can control Bison if he gets into footsie range and you’re not on offense, it becomes ugly though, as his S.HK, S.MK pressure along with his LK scissor kick can fuck you up. I think you wanna be long range until you choose to close the distance…Bison wants to be in your face till he chooses backoff.
Of course I don’t play GREAT Bisons…but this is just my take on this matchup. AS IS, I believe that Seth has all the options to lock Bison down and keep him from moving where he wants to, I also believe that Bison has the options to close the distance and punish ONE bad attack and make it game over. Considering Seths lack of HP and Bisons rushdown abilities I think this matchup is 6-4 in Bisons favor. I’m sure others will disagree, and thats fine as I don’t have the amount of experience nor do I practice against the level of talent that they do…So I would probably benefit from others thoughts as well
Neutral jump HK (Seth) beats out all Bison jump-ins (including Whiff Headstomp BS) except well-timed j.hk and j.hp
j.mp is gdlk in this matchup. And OS lp dp and legs.
-If Bison is EVER in the air, it’s a free Jump forward:mp:. Mabey watch out for Ex-Headsomp.
-Also, anytime bison does a devils Reverse(Non EX), yo can FADC command grab for free too.
-If he does the follow up after a blocked headstomp, wait a second and do Cl.:hp: to punish.
-Always do OS safe jumps on bison. If you know hes going to Ex Headstomp/Devils Reverse or Ex Phsyco Crusher, then use :mp: DP as the OS. If He Teleports, use :mp:Tanden Engine.
I was able to grab him out of his EX Physco Crusher before, I’ll come up with a safe jump OS command grab if there isnt one I know of.*
I can never beat fei what am I supposed to do and which ultra?

Ultra 2 for sure. Dont let him chicken wing for free ever. and his jump forward round house is absolutely retarded.
Bad matchup for sure. He’s difficult to zone and murders you if he gets into rekka ken range. Rekkas are quick, and the best whiff punish in the game IMO. Be careful when trying to poke him. Also, he can delay the the second hit of the rekkas on block.
His flame kick beats poorly timed crossups. I usually try to stay out of the corner and keep him in my mixups so that he can’t pressure me. NEVER let him jump in and be aware of his focus attack; Fei-Long can do 400+ damage if the player can link off of chicken wing.
I use U2, because U1 has almost no use in this matchup.
edit: I checked the Fei-Long section, and their matchup threads are terribly out of date or don’t have their front pages updated.
Neither is ours the guy who OP actually rage quit on me after I p’d him

They only have the vanilla characters. Can’t Jinrai edit the post? If not, there will probably be a new matchup thread come AE.
I dizzied a gief today I literally lol’d

FEI LONG- you can s.mp the chicken wing when you learn the spacing. MOST IMPORTANT >>>>> EX chicken wing can be punished with lp spd when you block it. then you can safe jump and shennanigan. i rarely have to block non ex so im not sure if its the same.
also i believe you can neutral jump stomp a chicken wing too, not 100% sure tho, ill try it next time.
when he jumps at you he uses mostly the kick to beat out j. hp. so instead of jumping back just stay in place and time s. mp to hit is leg as well.
his srk kicks are annoying because its a block motion but that can work for you too. More empty jump spds cuz he expects to block your jump in attack to flame kicks.
corner him before he corners you. and i really think Ultra 1 is better because it beats out chicken wings (fei’s most used move) and you dont need to combo into it or rely on chip.
I was thinking u2 would be good because it’s garenteed chip after rekka and chicken wing also didn’t know about spd on ex cw but I see how u1 would be the choice for jump Ins cw and rekka if you’re really fast thanks.

Again I state, there is no reason to use U1; if you can react to rekkas and chicken wings with it, then you can SRK them (chicken wings are easy). You can just SRK Fei’s jumps if you have time to jump-back fierce them, and you don’t risk a nasty counter-hit.
EX chicken wing CANNOT be punished with SPD on block; the only version that can be is the light one. The hard kick and EX are at least neutral on block (can’t reversal U1 with Gief) while the medium version is -2 (Reversal Gief SPD punishes, but Seth’s doesn’t) the light version is -4 (Guile’s FK punishes, but Seth’s SRK doesn’t). If you want to punish chicken wing, just SRK it before it hits you.
I personally enjoy U2 as anti-air, just because of the down-back wiggle it’s easier to react to a jump, my reaction time is kind of shitty so this is my way to compensate.
didnt think of chipping after a blocked chicken wing. good stuff. but i always LP spd ex chicken wings and normal chicken wings if i end up blocking them. maybe its just me? maybe they block expecting me to srk?? either way it has never failed. and then i rush down.
and the other stuff i said wont counter once you learn the spacing and timing. im usuaily scared to try to srk a CW cuz im scared of counter hits or risking a wiff and punishment (but thats just me being safe with all matchups, i srk way less than i should to be safe lol). will lp srk beat out CW completely?
the reason i give it to U1 is cuz you can anti air with it, anti CW too, and then keep pressure on after with rush down. I dont want fei long to breath enough air to think and counter the whole round by the time seth stands up from U2. (but thats most of the cast since i rarely use ultra 2)
i keep my ass on em once im on him, U2 spaces you out way too much
and if you combo it in the corner it will be a risky get up for seth. fei’s strongest movement is forward or straight up depending on what you decide to do after that combo and getting up at the same time he wakes up.
Light SRK doesn’t have invincibility, so it’s likely to get counter-hit.
i have a chun li question.
seems like i randomly get the safe jump on her ex bird wakeup after i spd etc. am i supposed to hit the hk at the last possible second of my jump or what???
either i get hit, or she gets hit, or i block… random. shes the only character i cant seem to be able to safe crossup jump with consistantly good results.
what am i doing wrong?
