Sega Stick Appreciation Thread!

How would you compare a Blast City CP Enclosure over the HSS-0130? like heft wise is it more solid or hollow feeling? Heavier?
I’m considering sourcing one of these instead of another HSS-0130…

also pic of what I did to mine

It has felt solid to me. The only difference I can notice (have not played on the blast much as of yet) Is it has a slight curve while the hss is flat. Ill give more comparisons maybe later tonight. I have not played on my hss in a bit. As I dont really have something correct height wise to play them on.

Whenever you google anything about the hss-0130 or sega panel your tumblr blog shows up. Ive been following it for a while.

Btw anyone know where I can get the carriage bolts for these cheap? My local hardware stores have been a bust.

I always

I had one and did a light refurb to on here…

Feels really solid by comparison to the HSS since its molded fiberglass instead of abs plastic.

VF mode. It gets little play since my PS3 stays at the GF’s.

Its quite solid but the HSS-0130 is by far heavier which is most likely from the bottom metal plate, that the blast enclosure does not have.

My restored astro city panel. Fits perfectly with a Ikea Micke table to create a mini cab… more info here:

Lemme know what yall think!

PS: Im actually looking for a hss-0130 for the collection… DM me if you guys have any leads or possibly WTS. Thanks yall!

@CMonster1221 haha, sorry bout that, (re: google), but thanks for following. lol

and yeah i expected the slope to be an issue, but there are ways to remedy that i guess (custom height rubber feet, etc…) was just curious if the blast city enclosure would feel too hollow/flimsy compared to an HSS-0130, i know its made of plastics too, but i think the Blast (being candy caba nd all) have a far more tougher kind. thanks for the input, know i know i 'm gonna need custom weights/etc on those things if i ever build such.

No way. I guarantee the Blast enclosure with the same electronics is heavier and more robust feeling than the HSS. I sold mine to ibeatu, who posted it on page 3 of this thread. BTW, the Blast City enclosure is made of thick fiberglass not plastic.

This is about as much as I can show for Sega appreciation, and even then, I’m a little confused.

Just received this 2L12B panel it in the mail, and it doesn’t look quite like what I was expecting.

This is the top/bottom pictures of the panel I got:

The shape definitely looks like a Sega panel, but…

  • BOTH players appear to have the Astro P1 layout
  • The two Start buttons are a lot higher than any other panel I’ve seen
  • The joystick mounts are also unfamiliar to me; as far as I know, they all should have some sort of S-plate for either Sanwa/Seimitsu? This panel has 8 bolts for each side, in the 85x40-ish mm in both horizontal and vertical orientations.
  • There are extra holes along the edge in addition to the square ones that normally house the carriage bolts

With the higher Start buttons, I’m a bit paranoid that stock Sega overlays (Astro/Blast/Net/Naomi) won’t work because the Start buttons will cut into the Sega logo that’s normally around that area.
Would anyone be able to shed some light as to the origin of the panel?

No clue of panel origins. Ditch it so your Sega NOU-2001 overlay looks legit, when you find it.

@FreedomGundam from the looks of it, its a custom repro. not even River Service makes panels like that. PS2 having the same button layout as P1 is a Sanwa thing. but yeah the start button and extra holes are differnt

Thanks for the info guys.
I guess instead of just unloading it, I might hang onto it to make a custom casing for it. I guess that also means that I’ll have to design and get a custom overlay printed for it too.
Oh well, serves me right for jumping on it so quickly; should’ve asked for more pictures first from the seller. But either way, it’s still a solid panel and at least it’s still fully usable.

So I spent a little time before lunch today doing a bit of measuring.
A approximate comparison of a standard HOT-2005 panel (in BLUE below) to the panel I just got (in RED):

Not even close. I double-checked it and the higher Start buttons would indeed not line up with the regular “Player 1/2” markings on a stock Astro or Naomi Universal overlay. Also, the joystick holes are drilled at 30mm instead of 24; though that’s not a big deal if I’m not going to use clear dustwashers anyways.
I did ask the seller about it, and he told me he bought it but never used it, and unfortunately has no clue on the origins. Oh well.

But not completely useless, I guess. I suppose I’ll be hitting up Gameongrafix for some custom overlays that I’ve already put together.

@CMonster1221 - Were you at the Dust Bowl Tournament in Syracuse back in 2012? I swear I seen that VSHG before…

hella clean white jp saturn

Gasp!!!

Yes, that is me. That was probably my last tournament Ive been to in a while.

It was the last tournament I was at too, so no worries there mate. I’m just always glad to still see people using the VSHG. Hell just Sega branded sticks in general are awesome.

I want to make babies with the Sega thread every time I click on it. It never disappoints.

On the flipside, I cry a little bit each time seeing all the great HSS-0130s in here and the fact that I don’t own one…
