DIY: Dual Japanese Arcade Stick. Superior HSS-0130 clone?

Well, I got outbid on the most recent HSS-0130 to appear on eBay so I said, “Fu*k it, I’ll make my own”.

The HSS-0130 was a twin arcade stick originally only available in Japan and for the Sega Saturn. The HSS-0130 came stock with Siemitsu sticks and decent no-name buttons and no quick-disconnects.

Anyway, I hit up TheRealNeoGeo’s site and ordered a 2-player blank BlastCity control panel and from LizardLick, some BlastCity correct green and pink buttons and balltops.

The panel arrived …

…but, not before the buttons…

Eager to have a PROPER PS3/PC stick, I began assembly.

First, you apply the bottom dust washer and then fasten it to the panel

2nd washer

Wired up some “left-over” VSHG pcbs…

Finished install of sticks and buttons with a comparison to an authentic Sega brand panel. The Sega panel’s 2nd player button layout is slightly different and the panel is all white which allows the overlay you apply to really standout unlike, the plated Sanwa panel.

I played on it like this ^ for a day or 2 and then, I did a search on ebay and found this…

For those who don’t know, the panels on candy Naomi/BlastCity/AstroCity/New Net City cabs are easily replaceable with other panel configs and BlastCity bezels/surrounds seperate from the cabinet and kinda look like a cousin of the HSS-0130. See…

I sent the seller a message asking if he’d sell the bezel separately and 2-days later I received…

It’s relatively clean on the exterior but the interior is kinda nasty. Unlike the plastic HSS-0130 stick, this baby is made of thick fiberglass and also has a sweet hinge for access to the innards…

Excitedly, I threw the panel in…

…and got down on some Mame…

^^^I eventually handed Sodom his ass:smile:

I’ve since broken it down for cleaning, paint (same color and sheen), cable management, misc. I’ll update along the way.

Very nice!
I’ve been wanting to do something similar but am uncertain about how to make/get the bezel. So, great find you have there!

Nice job, but just and FYI, HSS-0130 does NOT have quick disconnects. Like most sticks, the stock buttons are soldered to the PCB. I’ve had like 6 of them at one point or another. Now I only have 3.

Changed the button info, Paik.

Damn dood you lucked out. I’m wondering now if there’s a place I could get a bezel at other than ebay? They have this arcade store near my house so Ill try them out to see if they have a bass fishing one or a crazy taxi one as well.

Quick question, are all panels able to accept both Sanwa/Seimitsu sticks or are the panels specific to each stick. I know I can buy different shaped mounting plates for the joysticks but I just want to be sure before I go ahead and buy the panel. That Blast city panel is the best looking panel that I’ve seen.

you inspired me dude!! i wanted to mod a dual x-arcade but this is way better.
i would like an astro city, but still dont know if i want 2 JLF or 2 LS or 1 of each

you have only 3! Would you sale item for me? I need it and pay you $$$

opips. this item must you buy!

i just bought one from paik. came with original box. a true dream come true.

i kinda sweat this project tho. only because of the hinge and slightly more beastly fiberglass frame.

major props.

Yeah, I ordered it blast city panel control from Akihabrarshop. I need control box on my arcade.

I bought coin door happ 4 players from TMO Gaming for $60 + 30 shipped. awesome!

I’ve Atomiswave System motherboard and HNK, NEoWave and Neo Geo Battle. one more Samuruai Spirits 6 software kit.
My arcade is 7 months ago.

my old panel control

2- Sanwa JLW-TM
8- Happ concave buttons
8 Happ convex buttons

I’ll put new panel control for only Atomiswave System.
2- JLF
6- Sanwa buttons
6- Sanwa buttons

It appears that if you buy a Sanwa reprodution panel, it only fits the JLF and the Siemitsu panel only fits the LS-32 (at least w/o changing the mounting bracket). This sucks, because this was originally going to be Siemitsu panel, cuz I’ve never seriously played with a Siemitsu.

Thanks mack, it’s very ridgid and stout.

The sun went down before I could complete the prep work. The top part of the bezel is touch-up Bondo’d and ready for primer, sealer and paint. The bottom bezel has had some holes fiberglass filled and ready for more sanding and Bondo.

Will update within 24 hours:smile:

I ordered it on 4 days ago same your panel control. Let me know The seimitsu stick fit on the panel control?

if not fit it, that’s okay I’ve 2 JLF…I bought used JLF is $12 and JLF is free from HARP3.

Nope, Seimitsu LS32 does not fit Sanwa or late model Sega panels:shake:

I worked my hands to ashiness, working on this case today and yesterday in preparation for paint. I filled all holes with plastic weld, fiberglass, Bondo or a combination of the three:looney:

My first introduction to fiberglass

Pure sexyness… Nothing it’s more cute than a cute candy cab CP!

It makes me want to update the candy cab thread… Hm…

Finished the stick :wgrin:

This past Saturday, I painted it with Rustoleum Professional and it still stinks, thus it’s not fully cured:shake:

Solid feet:wink:

The End…(atleast until I source a Jspec “insert coin” decal and coin slot)

Only one word: Beautiful.

or awesome haha

Any plans for what you’ll put in the marquee slot?

Why, you got one for me?:wgrin:

I thought I still had my Magical Drop 2 instruction insert, but I guess I don’t:shake:

Sadly no, I don’t have any myself. Just curious.
