See how you fare! The online Wanted Poster thread

Raunwynn I got one for you, I am a recent Gouken convert, and I got a guy who is a beast with Rog for you, I know you have played him before. (I had mentioned learning Gouken and he had said he had only played 1-2 “good” Goukens, you were one of them)

MajorCrimson, this guy is a friend of mine, and he totally, utterly, completely, destroys me. I have a tough time with Rogs most of the time, but his is a complete massacre. Perfect assualt, very few holes, non stop pressure.

Hes a super nice guy, and plays quite a bit, but I would love to see how you would go about handling him, just to gain an insight on how to approach this matchup. (and maybe to suprise him in a future tourney or casuals ;p)

i have played against majorcrimson in championship mode and in a casual set to 10.
he usually beats me!

“Joey Miggs81” on XBL

I met this guy at local tournaments in CT and we’ve been great friends ever since. He’s who I play against the most during casual sessions. He has solid fundamental Ryu skills, but when he plays against me as Gouken, he changes his gameplay drastically. Watch out for 2xcr.jab xx SRK!!! It doesn’t sound like much, but the fact that he can link an SRK from one or two confirmed crouching or standing jabs is actually very ferocious. Especially when he has meter.

His game becomes completely random against Gouken and sometimes I feel like he’s in my head. It doesn’t matter how random I get, he seems to be five steps ahead with tick throws, random walk up throws, when to mash DPs and when to poke out block strings. He doesn’t play against Gouken the way he plays against other characters and I feel that it’s because he knows the Gouken match up v. Ryu so VERY WELL, nevermind the fact that we know each other pretty well.

I’d suggest giving him a shot.

*bangs head off desk

When you do win, what works? lol, he fucking murders me, I just need something to get jabrog the heck offa me!

balrog is a tough match when the player is good.
look for when he likes to jab and guess with counter, throw a lot, cross him up every chance you get and be clever with your fireballs.
every time i face balrog i am going to look at it like a block and tech practice session.
if you block and tech well, balrog’s offense is very limited.

^^^^^ Nothing but the truth.

You have to make him work to get in close to you as well. Nothing frustrates a Balrog more than having to work HARD to get back in. You can option select Jab his rush puches with Tatsu so just in case you miss you don’t go flying all through the air. It works on his armor break rush punches too, the EX Verison looks Marvelous. It’s also good to record his different rush punches at random in training mode and mess around with blocking and punishing so you can clearly judge his attacks b/c you recognize the animations. You can also meaty fireball him to make him block and eat a Demon/Palm frame trap, from here his only options out only lead him to getting punished.

St jab? Cr Jab?

As in SF2 cr jab tactics still stuff his rush punches? And as for the OS, cr jab (hit confirm tatsu?) im still quite new (to Gouken and SF4 in general) and not all that aware of Goukens OS’s.

Really?

lol, damnit, if thats so, this matchup just got a whole lot funnier… Theres so much “new” to learn in SF4 I sometimes completely disregard the “old”…

Either jab would work, I use cr. jab so it doesn’t telegraph anything and I can easily transition to hurricane kick. Jab’s stop all of his rush punches if they aren’t already active for hit, the armor break ones you have to hit him twice jab and ex works best for this one.

You can even stuff his T.A.P. after a FB like that… or just buffer your Ultra and light up the damn screen. Don’t disregard the old… Gouken is for the old skool street fighters. LOL. The problem with Balrog is when most are uncomfortable they try to jump back away and eat headbutt Ultra. Keep in mind his normals don’t do ANY Damage so look at his frame data, and make him do something risky to get in and cr. FP solves alot of that. You can neutral jump most of his rush punches too.

He is a tough match up though, but those of some of the things I’ve been successful with. He used to be my worst match up, but now I have a decent win percentage against him.

Guy- ROBO OROKUSAKI
Balrog- Aweakplayer206-

OMG You’re my new hero. This should be on every gouken thread! Thanks man!

That is really an old technique. I think it was posted over a year ago.

Aweakplayer206 was a tough fight the other day huh? Between him and DC hustle I still get trounced in the Rog fights. Well the ones that are good like those 2.

Guile- staticjack

Yeah, he’s tough. The only time I was able to beat him was when I either knocked him down for an un-tech and began my mix up or when he didn’t have any EX available. If he had about 1 or 2 EX bars, it just seemed like Balrog could attack me forever, canceling Rush Punches all that shit.

I guess I could have tried Focusing more and punishing his overhead but he randomly used it unlike most Rogs. DC Hustles Rog, beat me pretty much the same way. The thing that makes the match up a little tougher is the old Gouken Flip would make them stand and it takes away the head-butt option when they are charging… not now, he can just cr. block and if you use any hado string except for cr. fp > hado Balrog can reverse it with a head-butt. It’s such a brutal match up for Gouken, but I think the more i face high level Rog’s the better it would be b/c I’ll be more familiar of when just to keep blocking. I would always split rounds with DC Hustle and Aweakplayer206 and then Balrog with get some EX and before I know it half of my life is gone. LOL.

He has a VERY solid Guile, and he stays out of kongo range when following so I’ve learned to punish that by Level 2 Focus Absorbing the Sonic boom and trying to counter his follow up attack with the same Focus attack. That gave me a bunch of breathing room after I caught him with it a couple of times, and I could throw more hado’s and EX Gouken Flip over to pressure him if he blocked one. Other than that, the same Guile rules apply… I would face Guile any day before Balrog and Bison.

Akuma- Her0 of Tim3

He’s very good with a few characters but ironically his Akuma is the only one that gave me the most trouble. He had me on the ropes consitently with the DF Palm/Throw mix up and his vortex game is very solid. If you can manage to escape the Gouken specific Vortex I think you’d fare pretty well, but that’s pretty much the summary for any Akuma match up.

i want to see some strong new characters in this thread so we can hunt down those matchups!

t.hawk : i lost to one for the first time the other day but he wouldnt return my calls and now i cant remember his name! ultimately i blame dhew22 for the loss because he was lighting my ear up in chat while i was trying to concentrate.

dee jay : i think this is going to be a great fight, a little tougher than guile. i havent found anyone who mains him though.

juri : mikeinfinite has the toughest juri i have met so far.

hakan : i am going to ask ultra david to play with me sometime soon, i havent played a beastly hakan yet.

dudley : i havent found anyone that mains him yet. dc hustle plays him pretty well, but dc is just a good player with good gouken knowledge. i think gouken might have a large advantage over dudley as well.

adon : i havent found anyone that can smash with him yet, though citiofbrass did kick in my teeth in one game during endless matches!

guy : i fought a really good guy player in ranked called king-something. it was “king” and then some numbers, like a zero and a seven. i cant remember. the guy could play some guy though! let me know if you know who i am talking about!

makoto : draykaden’s makoto was pretty solid. i think gouken has a large advantage against makoto though.

ibuki : ca teknique has a great ibuki! he wont sit still long enough to play her though. i dont know if i have ever seen him play the same character twice before he played with the entire cast.

cody : crazisalvi516 has a good cody. i think gouken has an advantage in this fight. i have fought 2 or 3 strong cody players and once you knock him down, he is in trouble. he also tends to start all of his pressure with his jab punch, which makes countering a lot easier. has anyone seen a cody start a string from a low move?

I alt cody. typically his hit confirms start with c.jab. one of his footsies options is to do c.lk option select ruffian kick (the sliding kick thing). there is no consistent way to kongo that trust me.

raunwynn, can you update the 1st post with the names, kinda organize it better according to what system? please?

i play on ps3 and me and my buddy want to get some practice in against good players before we enter East Coast Throwdown on the 22nd-23rd in NJ

well, i only play on the xbox so i cant tell if the players suggested on ps3 are romperstompers or romper room, but i will update it.
also, option select c.lk from cody?
if i block the c.lk he does the ruffian kick and gets thrown right?

if you offer a player’s name here, i assume that means they can beat you in a set.
please dont offer the names of players that you can smoke.
i dont know why you would, but i dont want to end up with a list of everyone on line.
also i may take players down or put them back up based on match results.
i want the players on this list to be a consistent challenge for us.

Aww man, not even listed in the goukens. I used to play killakelly somewhat frequently, but I beat takin flight all the time(i main gouken). I play crazy alvis alot, and agreed on his ryu being a beast. I also main akuma, honda, and ibuki and am very proficient with all of them. I have a capture card if any of you guys would like to message me and get some sessions in. I also play at arcade UFO here in austin alot. I go against hsien chang, ryan harvey, and the rest of the crew there, so I’d like to show some of you guys what the south has to offer(props to raunwynn)…
