NPR spreads fear of Ebola with this piece. They’re actually advertising for non-profit organizations who are begging for donations to “stop ebola” http://adam.curry.com/enc/20140928193436_nprebolafearpr0nhwreisclooney.mp3
To be honest, military staff and extra help is what is needed in Africa at this point from what I gathered from the doctors talk on Ebola, in urban areas quarantined areas are going to need military protection if citizens are breaking into these infected areas and getting patients out. This is a real mess and I just hope that there isn’t a mistake or another major ‘slip-up,’ because all it really takes is one or two slip-ups in an urban area such as New York or London to create a real huge outbreak. I mean, imagine a doctor going home on the train and bus at rush hour with ebola in London or New York? And then the people who would infect others who he would infect? I just don’t want to think about it, “slip-ups,” against this kind of virus cannot happen or many many deaths and changes will happen our society.
I don’t believe this virus is airborne, lol, we would be talking about hundreds of thousands of deaths at this point. I imagine that guy who was driving around that kid with ebola was holding her a lot in general as she experienced symptoms and was nursing her etc, I have heard of a case where a woman had or may have had ebola on a plane back to London but no one on the plane got it, goes to show I suppose. I worry about the lack of knowledge of the strains of the different virus’ though. It seems like with the culture in Africa of strong religion, culture, and a lack of scientific rationale in their philosophy of thinking in Africa, that military presence however, will create an acult of Ebola disbelievers who’ll fight the irradiation of this disease.
Anyway I don’t wanna die.
Guy in the US sneezed on a plane and jokingly said he had ebola, no prizes for guessing what happened next.

Meanwhile in Australia, dude who was seriously ill boards a plane, starts puking blood, plane forced to turn and fly back to Australia, luckily that turned out not to be ebola, guy had a preexisting condition
Lol somebody would joke at the worst time (when everybody’s gonna take it seriously and not risk it, thus wasting everyone’s time).
E-Trolla.
So the US like fucking lemmings are doing airport checks, like their airports arent bad enough already they pulling this useless shit god damn, when they just gonna do what they have been hinting at forever and just reintroduce segregation. Some asshole in Africa eats a monkey and now anybody on a multi stop via the USA needs to take one in the ass, thanks Africa your welcome for all that aid monies.
Well, he’s an idiot. What did he expect was gonna happen?
Update: health worker who helped Ebola-man has come down with…mono. Nah, just fucking with you, she caught Ebola. She took precautions and still caught “not-spread-very-easily” Ebola. Now they have to track down everybody SHE’S been around.
Meanwhile, the news crew working with Ashoka Mukpo, the cameraman working for NBC who caught Ebola just cleaning out the inside of a car (remember, folks, it’s supposed to be very hard to catch), BROKE their voluntary quarantine, and are now under ENFORCED quarantine until I think the 28th of this month. Serves the assholes right.

Here’s why I have no faith in avoiding an outbreak: most of the measures supposedly in place rely on people cooperating and telling the truth. Human nature, especially among entitled people, goes against that. They will not tell the truth, they will not quarantine themselves, because it will inconvenience them. They are more important in their own mind than the safety of others. Steps must be taken against people’s will at airports to contain this. Either that, or stop the 100’s of people coming from West Africa daily.
It’s instances and acts of stupidity and selfishness like this that could easily cause an epidemic in the Western world. Much like that case with the man who lied about his contact with someone with ebola. Not surprised though, it is human nature to do this sort of thing. Humans be obsolete.
Yeh it’s startling, I think part of it is down to the initial symptoms being flu like so they don’t take it too seriously. Plus the idea that it’s hard to catch just encourages people to be very sloppy.
This is a great illustrated look at how the flu can be spread
http://i.imgur.com/Fa19eON.jpgTo be fair, a lot of those are slow killers and can be fought by just quitting smoking or drinking or just eating healthier. Ebola can kill you in as soon as a month and there’s no vaccine right now.
Also you’re all a bunch of negative nancies in this thread, holy shit, not even the threads of this shit on /pol/ are this depressing.
Negative? I’m being realistic. What about any of this gives you faith that it won’t balloon into a pandemic, especially when it seems very likely the CDC is lying in order to avoid panic…until there’s nothing anyone can do? This administration is all about image over efficiency and result. They don’t care about solving anything, they’d rather look good posing on the bow of a sinking, burning ship than pulling into port on full sail after fixing a problem they’d have to admit they were wrong about.
Paranoid delusion does not a realist make.
Watching the news on Chile, there’s a suspicious person that traveled to Africa for 20 days, and he went to the hospital to see if he has Ebola.
Press conference from the White House, Texas worker breached protocol
saying its not highly contagious then nurses contracting it through one slip up kind of contradicts what they’re trying to say
Luckily I don’t like coffee that comes from Africa.
I also prefer Central and South American coffees. That said, even if Ebola largely remains contained to Africa, a shortage of African beans will drive the cost of all beans up.

nicaraguan coffee is best cofee. :fightme:
Arabica is said to come from Ethiopia. I just finished my cup
You’re forgetting that the above three are a choice, while ebola is not.
