Your in sask Dorian?
Yeah well it’s kof13 light so if you appreciate kof13 you could probably appreciate sfxt. I mean I have every reason to hate sfxt but I’m still grinding…hmmm maybe you should just give the game a month of your time and see for yourself how it handles once you get past the initial "omg this game blows"phase.
Kof 13 is extremely fun, i do find it much faster paced, and time overs are rare(which happen too often at this early stage in the game, may get worse due to footsies/turtling)
but i disagree about the risk vs reward and diversity part.
While grappler characters have huge startup on their command throws, and normal grabs being 7 frames (still got to adjust this habit from sf4, as i keep eating a jab for my grab attempt) would suggest grab mixups to be non existent, high/lows, zoning (sim/sagat/guile), fear of frame traps, wake-up mind games are all here.
baiting reversals, looking for backdashes or rolls, oki/yomi/whatever is still alive in this game, and its early.
LoL though Akuma does seem like the worst of the shotos so far, but im not gonna assume ure biased because of that, cause i know u would have adjusted ure game anyways to make him work.
If the chains and rolls were removed, and the throw range left as it was in sf4 I think the game would improve massively.
Speaking of nina, she has some amazing frame traps and spacing options…I was considering of maining her until I was told she is top tier.
Does anyone remember why the chains were removed from A1 to A2?
I always found it strange that it never reemerged in a sf game after A1.
I was using Kaz/Hei. If I stuck with it I would probably go Ryu/Kaz.
We’ll see. Lots of people seem to think it’s worth playing at this point. We’ll see how long it holds up.
Different dev team. New dev team didn’t like chains.
Limited chains did reemerge in SF after A1, they just called them target combos.
I was fond of chains in A1 but for some reason in sfxt they seem so scrubby…don’t know what changed but it worked better in A1.
As for sfxt bein 1 dimensional with the footsies game, I submit to you A2. That game was all footsies and still a great and competitive game.
I didn’t like A2, and as much as people played that game back in the day it completely disappeared when the even shittier A3 was released. Which itself disappeared shortly after because the entire Alpha series was a giant turd.
Darkstalkers as well for honorable mention, though not specifically a SF game.
KOF shares absolutely nothing with SFxT, that’s a terrible comparison.
Darkstalkers had a fast pace and high damage output with instant overheads, that game was great back in the day and the chain system worked beautifully.
Well it does share some similarities with KOF13, not obvious ones but just as far as the meta game is concerned. Like both games have a insane juggle system, they both have a team dynamic, both have normals that lead into big damage and both games don’t have good zoning options. Sfxt is just a capcom version of kof13 IMO…oh and both have OTG moves and easy execution.
Shane you didn’t like A2!
Dude that game was pure spacing skill how could you not like it?
It’s the pure sf experience down to it’s core element, that being spacing.
I have a feeling you never actually played competitive A2. Custom combos is not a pure SF experience.
I don’t really feel like pointing out everything wrong in that statement Ric. Even giving slight credit to the similarities is asinine considering that they’re handled incredibly differently and quite frankly KOF is far more thought out. If you want me to point that crap out just ask.
SFxT is 2D TTT with a bunch of garbage crammed in there and a much less organic oki system. That’s the comparison I would make.
I think the custom combos made the matches very explosive and dynamic, especially since they were so high damaging. If anything they remind mean lot of the max system in 02.
Anyways there seems to be a lot of hate towards sfxt in Calgary, it’s a shame such harsh judgement is being passed on this game already. How are we receiving sfxt dudes, week 1 impressions and opinions from sask?
Why is it garbage though, the game isn’t even a month old so how can we know what’s garbage at this point?
Also I know kof handles differently but I think there are some similarities that could make fans of kof13 appreciate sfxt. I don’t get how someone could love kof13 and then trash sfxt especially when it’s not even a month old.
What does it matter how old the game is when evaluating if it is good or not? If something is not obviously good early on it is unlikely to become good. The game is slow, that isn’t gonna change. I hate the graphics, that isn’t gonna change. The game feels ultra clunky, that also is not going to change.
The game literally feels like it was released 6 months too early.
that’s just me being loud. almost everybody else seems to like it.
I don’t get why you hate it Cody, you were one of the guys who tried to convince me it was a good game back when you played the early build at evo. It has opened ended combos, Abel seems really strong in it and it has character diversity thanks to the tag system. What could have changed to make you hate the game now, I mean it basically a hybrid of mvc3 and sf4…why not give it a chance.
Well I’ve tried to be civil about SFxT as best I could since it would break my heart to make people less interested in going out there and participating. There are some crucial issues with the game regardless. Forgetting the aesthetics which are purely based on opinion the game suffers from a severe lack of playtesting (something Capcom has has incredible issues of late, MVC3’s two iterations as a case in point, Kazuya’s infinite and the others that are still left undiscovered).
In terms of overall balance the game obviously has some severe flaws , characters such as Ryu have some of the most braindead frametraps that you essentially flowchart ad nauseum until someone is aggravated to the point that they stop blocking. Frametraps are diluted as they’re really the only applicable strategy and thereby we have a shitload of ‘SF4’ frametraps (punching you in the dick relentlessly). Jump arcs are absolutely bizzarre upon further investigation. I have blocked some garbage that is clearly in front of me crossup, followed by the opponent landing in front of me IN THE CORNER.
There’s chains, which ADD to the SF4 frametrap stupidity of punching you in the dick until you see a hitspark then mashing away until you get your raw tag into whatever character you choose (better be a top tier) for 300-400 damage. I don’t care if that life is recoverable, that’s the stupidest and easiest 400 damage I have seen in anything that isn’t a kusoge (with that being said, HNK is actually hard as balls to play and in order to get those strong hits, I haven’t played much SBX so I won’t comment there).
There are normals that have upper body invincibility, which is essentially the laziest way to program anti air normals you can think of, however due to the fact that stray hits lead to potential 400 damage (or more if you actually land that jump in) it does nothing to really stop people from jumping in. In fact, they managed to spike DP damage up even higher which is a tremendous mixed bag to both the frame trap and jump in game, except DPs get stuffed by the stupidest of jumpins a majority of times. They’re ironically very strong against frametrap pressure .
So the game in month one turns into this. Frametrap pressure (loses to essentially nothing partiicularly with characers with strong jabs and strongs, they can DP you if they guess right, but it does not pay off in any respect unless tagged out of and if you’re not confirming those hits… well I personally have a problem with that, which is one of my larger complaints about SF4), and the air to air game which is on a whole nother level of stupidity. If your character is good in the air in this game, you’ve got one of the best characters in the game without a doubt. Look at Juri, Ryu, Rufus, There’;s literally no reason not to use either Rufus or Ryu., They’re so overwhelmingly strong.
The only saving grace I can see to come would be from the tekken characters 0f counters or specific body hit counters (low mid high) as those are premeditated reads that require you to be on point and realizing which angle the opponent wants to attack you from. The 0f counters just stop the relentless dick punching.
Then there’s the balls easy execution, which isn’t even worth mentioning outside of passing at this point.
At the end of the day, the mechanics themselves can’t be stupid, they’re just mechanics. I feel as though they were handled incredibly lazily and do not sustain a competitive game, that’s why they’re garbage. Implementation is the problem here, hamfisted implementation.
I’m not going to argue about why KOF is a better game or any of that crap, I personally think it is but that’s just my own thing. When you look at KOF you can work out why they implemented the mechanics they did and how they add to diversity more so than homogeony. Whereas in SFxT you just sit there and go ‘Huh, that’s silly.’
I’ll say that they’re garbage mechanics because I’ve seen a lot of this crap before (I play a lot of fighting games) and due to that I feel as though I’ve got a pretty fair overview as to how and why mechanics are chucked in there. So that’s why I feel that my arguments have some merit and why I feel that I can comment on such an issue. A lot of people chime in as to why they think something is garbage but they don’t really know the history or have a solid logical foundation to draw upon. And with that said I haven’t even touched on things such as meter management, oki, confrmation, and a wide array of other crap I feel that they just gutted or bastardized.
But shit if you have fun playing it do it, it is a fun game there’s no denying that. It’s just not fun for those of us who want a little more out of the game. We’ve got KOF and we’re happy.
I haven’t had the feeling I share with KOF since ST, and it’s a great feeling.
I fail to see how calling someone out for lies, hypocrisy, egoism, sexism, hate speech, delusion, etc instead of just letting it slide could POSSIBLY be misconstrued as trolling OR flattery, and I’m sure its not defined that way in the SRK rules. I’d say putting ‘Allison and Tara fan club leader’ as your sig after pages upon pages of sexism and violence aimed towards them fits the bill though.
Sorry, fool me once, shame on you, fool me 132498724 times, shame on me.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the new, reborn ric. The only reason he is like this now is because he’s not winning anything. Its only a matter of time before someone insults his ego and he goes off on another hateful, sexist tirade.
**The mods have deleted it, desi, so maybe you didn’t see, but this guy told women in this thread that they need to be beaten senseless and raped to learn a lesson. **
He won’t be forgiven by anyone with half a brain, and the FG events my friends and I hold will remain un-public until we can be sure he’s not around anymore. I can only assume his parents will kick him out of their basement at some point and he’ll move on to other things.
oh PLEASE don’t confuse me not wanting to be around the worst human being I’ve ever been in contact with, with fear. Not wanting to be in the same room as this wastrel doesn’t make me a chicken, it makes me sensible.
What ‘big words’ did I use…exaggerate?..there’s nothing in there that would give an eighth grader trouble. I suggest you work to develop your lexicon.
Look I do agree with you’re opinion of the game in many aspects, but I still think it’s to early to know what the true worth of this game will be at tournament level until we see what happens after a couple of majors. I personally enjoy the fact that this game does punish reckless pressure and bad habits since any normal can lead into big damage, so I do think the game has a good premise as far as it’s meta game is concerned but clearly it isn’t without its faults. It’s a mute point now though since the game is out and it’s doubtful capcom will go out of their way to remedy the games shortcomings. I think this game has some potential and I’m willing to see it through even though I’m fully aware of it’s faults. I can understand some people refusing to play it but…I dunno I think people should at least give it a full month before passing any real judgement on it. The game will probably be hot until evo comes around and afterwards who knows what will happen, but for now I’m gonna try and give it a fair shot before I decide to drop it or main it.
