It’s obvious that Sakura users aren’t the type who intentionally seek out S-tier characters…otherwise you would be playing Sagat. It’s clear that Sakura users like playing characters who require effort to use. I don’t see why people are requesting such crazy stuff like “give her more health, better pokes, and more stun on her fierce punches”. She’s already receive some really nice buffs.
I’m tellin’ ya, it’ll backfire when she gets too ridiculous and becomes boring to use. You won’t respect your own victories, and that’s the worst thing ever.
I don’t see how better pokes are a bad thing for the game. However the other requests are kinda dumb. She has average health, and her stun output is pretty high already.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely agree with what you’re saying. but isn’t every thread here trying to make their character OP’d? There are few posts that try to be reasonable and actually make good suggestion.

have her suffer less from damage scaling on her ultra (I used to think her other moves being multi hit hurt her, but if they were only counted as one hit, then Sak would have some ridiculously powerful combos, and we wouldn’t even need resets since one connect would be a round ender…and what fun is Sak without resets?)
more dependable anti-air. maybe jab dp goes strait up but suffers from horrible recovery due to her doing some sort of girly animation right after the move? It would give us a little better defense but it would cost us so spamming it wouldnt work at all.
Other than that, I like Sakura. Her moves and pokes aren’t as good as the rest of the cast, but that’s because she’s a friggin’ kid who is self-taught! (Dan doesn’t count) of course she’s not going to be as strong as Ryu or as quick with her pokes as chun. What she lacks in conventional tactics she makes up for with her mix-ups and deceptive tactics. It fits a kid to fight with a sense of playfulness, and I think Capcom hit the nail on the head with her moveset and how to play her successfully (props to Sabre for fleshing her character out and defining how to play Sak in SFIV…I don’t think Capcom had your tactics in mind but it fits her to a tee).
The one and only thing I really want is for her ex shouken to connect fully. I hate guessing right, but then being punished for the correct action. I don’t want more invulnerability on shouken, I don’t need better pokes (which btw she has some VERY good ones). I also need a setup to ultra for more damage. Sakura is one of (if not the only) the few characters who has to combo so deeply into her ultra. Damage scaling kills it, and you end up doing like 100-200 damage for her ultra.
I doubt it’s true. Considering most people are basing this rumour on the Sagat vs. Abel vid, reports say that Tiger Cannon causes approximately 500 damage, raw, at max charge. When Sagat FADC’d it against Abel, it was a half ultra, which we can consider to cause ~380 damage, raw. If an ultra is juggled, its damage is dropped automatically to 80%, since ultras always count as 2 hits, so that damage gets lowered to ~304 points. Consider also that Abel has a lot of stamina and it’s easy to see why Tiger Cannon appeared to cause such little damage against him. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the full ultra did not hit Abel when juggled.
Ryu has several ways to land an ultra both without EX and with one EX bar.
And Sakura’s problem isn’t her ultra, it’s that she gets zoned to easily.
Her shunpuukyaku don’t need changing because they’re already good the way they are.
Her shookens could use some tweaking, I’d like to see her lp version being around -2 so that it became viable as a get in move.
LP shooken doesn’t do much damage and doesn’t have invincibility so this wouldn’t be especially strong, nor does she have a srk to stick out on block to deter people to fear doing a c.lp back at her.
It shouldn’t have to be mentioned that her ex shooken shouldn’t go from hitting to blocking if you hit them from mid range and further, that’s just stupid.
Her hadoken is already getting tweaked so I hope it becomes useful because right now the only time I use it is after back+throw, j.tatsu, hado to chip them on wakeup to build meter.
She only has one good poke-normal right now which is c.mk, and I’m not saying anything bad about c.mk x hp srk because that’s one of the best confirmable normals in the game.
Howoever, she doesn’t have any divercity in her poking, which means if someone can outzone c.mk then she doesn’t have much to answer with, giving her a better st.mk or st.hk would answer that problem.
A faster dash would perhaps solve her problem with hadoken zoning, because against good players you can’t really come out winning if you’re trying to react with hk tatsu at all times.
The dash would make focus absorb a good way of closing distance without taking a big risk, she doesn’t need a divekick to be able to do that.
She doesn’t need anything else than this to become a strong character because her okizeme and mixup game is already strong, her weakness is getting the chance to applying them in many matchups.
I’ve been playing her actively as my secondary since the release of the game so these aren’t uneducated guesses, these are things I’ve noticed she’s been lacking for a long time.
She’s extremely fun to play imo but her bad matchups makes it a bad choice to ever go for her as my main.
they need to give her ex shou the same start up frames as her lp shou that way it might be a reliable reversal. as of right now it 12 frames on start up which means that they will pretty much get away with anything. u cant break pressure because by the time you will hit they have thrown the attack and blocked. we already have to have 3 ex bars to make it remotely safe so just make it more effective.
the truth is that what sakura reaaaaaally needs is an alt costume that make her look like the age she suposed to be in this game, I mean, in the near future we will have a SF 10 with a 27 years old sakura still using her school uniform beside that even if i lose sometimes i stick with sakura until the end XD ahahhahahahaha. Sorry for the bad english.
pardon me but don’t all of her moves count as 1 hit (except multi hitting otoshi) in damage scaling? I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding with damage scaling in general but with sakura in particular
This. The second best anti-air in the game after SRK and you wish for more? Try using Chun or Rog, then back to Saks and you’ll feel blessed with c.HP. That move is godlike.
Sakura will not have a shoto-esque SRK. That would destroy her character.
