Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Negative edge, hold cr.lp down and don’t release until you’ve pressed kick. It’ll never happen again.

Ahh thanks for the tip!

Dude, that is one of the best pieces of advice i got over here. And im kinda kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner myself, lol. I knew it was negative edge and my solution was to tap the button quickly, but your suggestion seems a lot easier and more reliable.

I use negative edge a lot in my fireball game. As in press button with a quarter circle to TS and then quarter circle and release the button to do another TS.

Good stuff though, thanks!

Can anyone help me I’ve been playing Sagat for weeks now an I still can’t get his basic bnb combo down
clk clk clp into TK,TU or TS. I keep dropping the bloody combo in matches an getting punish hard for it.
Any tips on how to be more consistent

How do you plink clk?

The only thing that works is practice. Get your timing down on the dummy. Then see if you can land it playing the CPU. Then go online.

I had trouble with that combo for years and then something just clicked and now I land it 90% of the time. I don’t think you can plink crouch short but something that helps is to have you stick in the down forward position from the start of the combo, then you can just quickly move from there to down, and back to down forward for the TK/TU.

And when you practice on the dummy try and land the combo in pseudo real situations. Eg. After a TU or throw on opponent’s wake up.

you can plink c.lk with c.jab… basically do a crouch tech except push the kick sliiiiiiiiiiiiiightly sooner than the punch

If you do that though you make all your meaty OS block wake up options redundant. It’s best to learn the bnb from only down back unless you have a 100% confirm.

You can still use your shortcut but just from down back.

Ash, I would suggest avoiding the whole plinking thing and just get the rhythm of the cr lks down. Just go to practice and practice doing cr lk 3 times in a row. Set the dummy to auto block so that you can tell whether the hits combo or not.

Another thing that helps is to separate the combo into two portions. part 1 cr lk 2x part 2 cr lp into tu.

do these two parts separately first then when they feel comfortable work on linking them into one combo.

I agree with highland on holding down back while doing the combo since it is less risky.

True. This is super important against someone like Rog or Rose.

this is super helpful, thank you

Can Sagat kara uppercut Rolentos rolls on block??

Don’t need to, stand block raw uppercut works. Has to be stand block though.

Hello. Despite what the first post says [evident since I checked there first], some people actually do read introductory posts with tons of info.

Since this is absent, could someone please list his basics (best normals for appropriate distances, popular ultra/meterless/fadc combos, mix-ups, etc.)? I’m sure lots have changed since the days of him being one of the most popular chars [thus why barely anyone posts here anymore] so I’d rather just know what’s viable now. The last 2 [only recent] pages tell me cr.lk cr.lk cr.lk TK/TU.

For ex. Adon:
st.HK as an anti-air/poke
j.mk, cr.lk cr.lk cr.lk>RJ fadc>ultraII
cr.HP>super
mix-up cr.lp/lk strings with jaguar kick
instant air jaguar
etc. etc.

Obv, people like Gamerbee do more tech things, but you get my gist. These things are basically done by all Adon players at one time or another to be successful.

I’m doing a video series as we speak, it’ll cover everything - frame traps, combos, execution problems, footsies. They will be quite large video’s and probably uninteresting if you’re not a Sagat main or you already have a decent level Sagat.

I’ll probably post it up in about a week.

don’t fall for it Leady!! its a trap!!

I’ve done two already but they don’t really mean much on their own, I just need to do a " execution" vid because I’ve got a feeling a lot of players simply won’t know what the fuck I’m talking about lol.

The match up vids, will take a long time but I’ll get the " basics" vids, out the way.

Patiently waiting Highland…patiently waiting.

on a different topic…dhalsim yoga fires then jumps forward … what do i do?

if i block i take chip damage, rinse and repeat. If i jump i get yoga sniped outta the air. if i try to dp his hands the yoga fire catches me before i take off (this is all online btw)… I focus through the yoga fire and i get sniped for my trouble. wtf?

watched the dhalsim matches between mago and champ…but they arent a good indicator seeing as sagat has been nerfed and fireball recovery isnt what it used to be.

havent faced many dhalsims as you can tell but this dude beat me 2 games to 1 online and i felt that the only way to beat him was to get in close and never leave until he is a rubbery puddle on the ground…but the getting in part…not as easy as it sounds.

Mago s not worth watching with Gat anymore, he just had a great fireball game. Look up gachikun vs dhalsim on YouTube, he wrecks two high level sims over and over, I think its on blackvegtas channel. Id link it but I’m on my phone.

To answer your question though in that scenario you usually just have to block and close the ground after the sniper, the sim match is all about just getting in on him.

Thinking about it, that could possibly be a great place to use red focus, you’d crumple him mid air for a tiger upper cut juggle or dash cancel TU.

Not a viable strategy long term but def worth a shot if you get a solid read.
