dude we aren’t trying to be dooshes either, and snark you out, you seem new to the site, so welcome and we hope you enjoy both street fighter and playing sagat.
we just wanted to give you realistic expectations. Sagat has no easy way to win, and you the character by nature is a zoner who uses fireballs as one of his primary tools. your not gonna win if you don’t chuck plasma, and if your new realize sagat can be a very strong character, but of all the strong characters, unless you are playing someone who doesn’t know how to play, you have to work hard and play perfect for every sliver of damage.
by all means, main the king, just know your gonna have a brutal learning curve ahead of you. the consolidated faq post above answers probably 90% of questions you might have, and we’re happy to help with any others.
good luck!
But i was trying to be a geniune douche
Throw many tiger shots, but be as unpredictable as possible. The thing about Sagat is that you have to be unsafe to truly be scary/successful. Throwing tigershots just outside of your opponents footsie range is how you get them to jump, and then you punish them hard for jumping
Is Sagat bad match up for Adon bros ?
As far as I know, Adon is a bad matchup for Sagat, but I could be wrong.
new to Sagat…wondering what his good anti air buttons are?..I cant seem to find a post on them, but I know I probably haven’t dug deep enough in the forum…but I thought I’d just ask.
I’m picking up Sagat for AE/Ultra. I’m tired of playing rush down characters and i’m just tryna chill and play a zoning game.
Tiger knee. I see it’s -10 and it has 14 active frames. Generally speaking, what’s the most frame advantage you’d get from a safe tiger knee? I assume it’s almost impossible to get the knee to hit on the last active frame, so is +1 or +2 more likely?
the reason I ask is because I know that tiger knee was nerfed from Vanilla to Super, and a +1 or 2 knee still seems pretty good. Vanilla knee must of been insanity.
Standing roundhouse and close standing strong for simple buttons. Learn spacing on high step kick (towards Roundhouse, it juggles!) and when to use fierce tiger uppercut, jab tiger uppercut, and even kara tiger uppercut.
thanks…I eventually stumbled into the 30 Q’s thread…golden stuff I can hit kara TU and TK pretty consistently off both f+HK and f+LK, but not tiger shot…any tips on execution?
also I was in an online match and got Cr. HP to stop Ryu’s jump in a couple times, given it was online, and the connection was pretty ass…is it a viable option?
No, cr.fierce means you fucked up your Dp and got lucky.
For Kara tiger shot on the screen you wait until your first shot is just dispersed in the block stun and input your kara command (I use QCF + lk then hp or hk like a piano method). For a kara without the blockstun you can do the same thing but wait until your first shot has left the other side of the screen. It’s easier to kara also in FB war as your shots get dispersed earlier. Fast shots don’t offer enough time for recovery if you are using the block stun method, only the lights and medium. The fast shots are better kara’s if the opponent crouches or jumps over.
Basically in a nut shell you want to time your kara shot to come out just as the other shot is gone (which ever version). Of course you can do raw kara shots without the aid of another but this is fairly hard to execute consistently.
You can also get creative with things like opponent neutral jumps (shot hits the neutral jump) input kara (shot hits again) Ultra 2 - hits them as they back into the wall. You can usually tell when someone is going to land on a shot if you throw the slower ones.
I’m going through Emblem Lord’s old posts. He posted this 4 years ago:
Now the recovery frames in AE for all tiger shots are the same regardless of the button pressed. I know it’s good to mix up your shots to catch people slipping, but besides that, is there any other use in zoning for light and medium tiger shots? Since you have to throw unsafe fireballs every now and then I assume the speed of fierce tiger shot will make light and medium tiger shots almost obselete.
High shots recover faster than low shots I assume you know that.
Light and Medium shots are necessary for kara shots most of the time so you need them for that. Also as a slight alternate view from Emblems post I personally find slower shots better at long range because they offer a chance that the player will either jump on the shot or miss time what ever it is they are trying to do (think Rose reflect). It also offers them an easy chance to jump (something you want them to do) so throwing a slower shot you can automatically prepare your self for a kara uppercut.
If someone lands on a shot you can kara Knee, step kick or Ultra for big damage. Very rarely will someone land on a fast shot after a jump forward. A slow shot offers much better chance of a jump or a mistake basically. Think of facing a character like Yun or Rufus, if you throw a slower shot you can basically bank on it they will neutral jump dive kick over the top at which point you blow them up with a kara option.
Close up the speed of the shot doesn’t matter but at mid and especially far range you want to use every shot you have. A shot on the screen offers more chance of a fuck up than a shot that’s went past.
Makes sense now. Slower fireballs travel remain on the screen longer, which grants you more space control. Thanks.
I’m new to Sagat. I have a question about c.MP xx TK. When the time comes to punish something sometime it whiffs and sometimes it doesn’t. Is it character specific?
St.mp xx TK is character specific, cr.mp xx TK works on everyone from close range (not light TK).
If you are a little further out though I guess it’s possible, you might want to use cr.mk xx TU from that range or cr.mk xx TS.
What part of the screen are you all looking at when playing Sagat?
Are you looking at Sagat, your opponent, the space between them, etc?
90% of the time, the opponent. No way around this, not only because your playing a reactionary character, but to get your kara tiger shots you need to be extremely focused on the time the fireball is blocked or if the opponent jumps up. The rest of the time im looking at the space between us.
