Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

thanks. much appreciated

noob questions: what version of the tiger uppercut should i be using as an anti air? they seem to have the same frame data, but are they actually identical as far as anti airing is concerned? i use hp tu exclusively at the moment, and i have trouble with people jumping in at close range, how do i deal with this? uppercuts sometimes whiff completely

what are the best ways to deal with fullscreen ex demon flips from gouken/akuma? i predict them, and my uppercuts sometimes whiff completely, get stuffed or they get absorbed by gouken’s parry option.

His different TU’s are important. The light one has the most vertical range, and his great for people that neutral jump you on your wake up, it’s also the one I use Auto-correct dp most with.

Speaking of auto correct, thats what you do when people cross you up and you’re standing. You auto-correct the dp so it comes out the correct direction.

As for demon flips, it takes practice. However, I just recommend jump forward fierce!

What are sagats safe jumps?
Or do you guys just meaty tiger shot?
Also is kara fireball still from forward H?

Anybody got any tips on sagat safe jumps and option selects??

I’m not the most technical player, but this is what I do:

  • I don’t like jumpin okizeme with Sagat. I usually look for positioning and corner carrying. But when I do it it’s usually to switch sides on charge chars, and I end up mixing c.lk/throw after j.lk.
  • c.lk, c.hk~c.lk to start the BnB with OS sweep. I abuse this.
  • you can get them to backdash on wakeup a lot with max distance safe j.hk, because it looks so obviously like the best option for them … Then max distance safe j.hk OS U1. Forward j, qcf+hk, qcf+3K. Really easy.
  • I have to resort to f.lk for my kara TS.

after safe tiger knees, are you at an advantage or slight disadvantage? i’ve asked this some time ago as well, i believe, but what exactly makes a tiger knee safe? is it the spacing? hitbox related?

can someone explain 20:04 ?

Is there anyway to get the button inputs? Unless that is some insane tech discovered, I have a gut feeling Dnm saw the ultra flash and wanted to ultra it himself.

no, that’s actually a crossup ultra if it’s the old vanilla tech (can’t say for sure since no input display)

i’ve seen this done on several characters before

Are there any definitive up to date Sgat tutorials for AE2012 or otherwise any great tutorials that stand the test of time? Trying to compile some links for a player that is trying to learn how to play and want to give him some good information to work with.

Seconding Pancho’s request, I’m really wanting to learn how to play AE and I’m liking Sagat a lot so far.

Yo check out the consolidated q&a thread, not much has changed for the character except we have angry charge, stand LK is no longer 1 hit special cancelable, and an incredible amount of damage nerfs. Thats about it since vanilla honestly, especially since super.

If i could tell you how to play sagat it in 30 seconds(because I’ve been procrastinating work all day) it would be this:

Throw shots and zone smart, do shot feints at mid range. if you get predictable you will get jumped in/ bodied. Bait them into jumping then anti air. if you are not on point with AA’s you’ll have a tough time losing.

B&B hit confirm: cr lk x2, cr lpxx TU/TK. use it, love it. Sagats mixup game is basic but can be effective if you use it right, as cr lk gives +3 frame advantage. otherwise, re-space on knockdown and start throwing stuff again.

Tigerknee: safe ones are lk and mk, only hit at max distance to be safe, everything else is punishable.

best uses of meter: uppercut fadc to combo to ultra or get safe, ex tiger knee for super safe pressure/rushdown/chipout, ex low shot for juggle into Ultra 2, ex shot to blow up armor moves (example balrogs ex rush punch). Angry charge if you can bait a jump in/screw up wakeup input timing.

You have great zoning/reversal tools, but your buttons are booty. face a character with good buttons and you’ll get bodied at midrange.

Vortex characters: don’t get knocked down, huge hitbox is prime target for vortex shenanigans.

BE PATIENT. You play smart Sagat can do very well, but you always have to be working and playing smart and solid.

if you have specific questions (game play style, match ups, strategy, etc) post up and myself or another one of these dudes will be happy to help.

Considering what Justin said on his tier list, does Sagat make a good alt for Bison’s bad matchups?

I’d imagine for Bison you’d want a hard Guile counter and that wouldn’t be Sagat. More like Gouken if your a fan of plasma, easier to play too.

Why bother? Pick cammy and do stuff

Or Seth -

Wall bounce - DK

Choose one of - SPD - DP

Anyone try’s any shit - press Ultra - Hit?

Leads to mix up

Wall bounce - DK

Choose one of - SPD - DP

Anyone try’s any shit - press Ultra - Blocked?

It’s fine. You’re at full screen - return to first sentence.

Lol, I’m actually a fan of Sagat, not sure why I never picked him up in this game. I guess I may have to stop Ken and switch to Cammy/Akuma then. I’m scared of using Seth. I’m the type of person that will play perfect and then throw it away on something dumb. At least with Akuma I got a yolo teleport (unless it’s Yun/Cammy).

What is the best way to be a good Sagat player without spamming Tiger Shot? That D rank needs to go but I hate spam!

dude if you don’t want to throw tiger shots play a different character. theres no such thing as spam, only winning and losing. if you can beat someone just by throwing shots then why feel bad about a loss? in a game with this weak of projectiles, kudos for a game that you can get by just on ā€˜spamming’ shots.
