It’s because of a counter hit, If you Dash backwards there are times where you can actually follow up with a forward roundhouse
does anyone have TK strings that have a true block string for cammy and boxer? ie they include cr.LK, cr.LP or similar. their hit boxes troll the hell out of me
Thank you Mr Slap for your quick reply
You have helped me level up one aspect of my knowledge and have made me a little bit better.
Some sample blockstrings would be nice
yo is this a Ca site?
I’m having an execution problem with Sagat.
I’ve been working on his c.lk, c.lk, c.lp xx tiger uppercut combo with my stick in the down forward position to assist with cancelling the TU.
The trouble I’m having is that I can’t seem to finish the combo with a low tiger shot in the event that the initial c. lk is blocked. A tiger knee always comes out since I’m holding down forward.
How should I work on this so that I can choose one or the other at will? Should I start the combo with the stick in the down position, or should I quickly shift into the down position after the initial c. lk is blocked?
Either way seems extremely hard so I want to practice it the best way.
thx, that’s much easier! ^^
To each his own way I suppose. I advise for clean inputs, once you get them down, they are more reliable.
In the case of this BnB, down-back instead of down also allows you to easily input TS, and you can start from blocking/crouch teching.
I think the reason I find cr.lp xx tiger uppercut so difficult is that I’m brand new to fighting games and slow at the z motion. I’ll probably stick with down forward for now and forget about the chip damage TS combo until I’m better at the motion.
Its not a Z motion as such , it’s like a flick of the corners. The stick doesn’t actually have to move from the gate it can just stay there. Much like how you would buffer an ultra from a crouching position without standing. Think of your stick never leaving the bottom of the gate only slightly grinding against the edges (yeah that sounds like a fucking porno I know).
:db: :d::df::d::df: :hp: Grind it big boy.
This makes it perfectly clear, thanks. I knew about that motion but wasn’t sure if that’s how most people did it. I was thinking it was a crutch that would teach me bad habits or something.
Shortcuts are the only thing that make combo’s in this game possible. You can also use the cross cut or wiggle DP’s to Auto correct your cross ups, so from crouch you basically wiggle each corner and press punch late for the cross up DP.
You’ll find Sagat’s bnb is easier from down forward and not down back, but then you don’t get the benifit of running OS block/meaty block set ups that way so it’s best to learn it from down back. You can plink MP with the jab (and cancel that to TU) as MP also links to cr-lk. If your not confident to start, try replacing the TU with a TK, your less likely to get a big punish from average to bad players if you miss, good players can recognise either way though.
If you hit 2 x cr.lk and it gets blocked, you can MP xx light TK for a nice push back block string. You’ll have to experiment with your distances but IMO you need to know pressure strings for Sagat, you need that push back.
wat
cancel window and block stun are huge in this game, you don’t need shortcuts to cr.LK, cr.LK, cr.LP xx TU. if anything shortcuts fuck up the combos in this game because supers like to come out if you don’t reset to neutral at some point. also, you should learn how to do it from down back so you can hit confirm properly after cr.LK, cr.LP and don’t get blown up by an uppercut. using tiger knee without meter is generally recommended as a bnb because it does more damage + throws them out, but you need to be able to recognize if they’re standing or crouching (and if mk/hk knee works on them.) that’s also where the shortcuts can fuck with you - if you’re going to do a tk bnb with full meter, make sure you finish tk with a true motion or you’re getting super instead.
anyway, sagat is a little unusual because he has a couple of optimal character specific hit confirms. cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lp xx HP TU is basically the lazy but mostly safe combo that works consistently at most distances. since “good” players won’t uppercut your first cr.LK, and can’t uppercut in between cr.LK, cr.LP (which is like…one of sagat’s three block strings…kinda wish he had a chainable cr.lp or something…)
(cr.LK,) cr.MP, cr.LP xx HP TU (you have a long time to hit confirm cr.MP, cr.LP and you can crouch tech with it, but if you’re online or want those additional frame traps…)
cr.LK, cr.LK, cr.MP xx HP TU
cr.LK, cr.LK, cr.LP xx MK Knee / HK Knee
cr.LK, cr.LK, st.LP xx HK Knee
usually have to use the character specific bnbs if you want to do safe tiger knee pressure as well (excluding cammy, rog and a few others, where you have to use really odd strings like cr.LK, cr.LK, cr.LK, pause, LK Knee)
I have a question about high level Sagat players.
I always see you guys pressing St lp like there is no tomorrow
I am wondering why?
I feel like before I start doing something I should know why I should do it.
It act’s as a feint to get people to think you’re doing something when you’re not actually doing it. It’s used to either switch up your fireball timing or/and to bait your opponent to jump. It’s most common comparison can be ryu’s st.lk, every Ryu player does from the super scrub to Daigo, it recovers fast, it’s an active animation and it’s the mental part of the footsie game!
Whiffing normals have been around since SF2

Thanks for the quick reply
I am new school I was not around for SF2 to play it competitively.
SSF4 was my first game and I was terrible at it.
I am okay now but I need to get better luckily there are seemingly unlimited ways to get better at SF.
Ok, you don’t NEED shortcuts but it would be unwise to ignore them - at all levels but especially as a beginner. Shortcuts let you abuse the system. Using a shortcut is no different from p-linking. You use what ever method gets the job done effectively and the easiest. If that means using shortcuts for some characters and not others, or using shortcuts for some combo’s and not others then that’s fine.
Don’t put it in his head shortcuts are a bad thing because they are in the game and can’t be switched off. Personally I don’t like them in certain situations but others I think you have to use them. Crouching DP being a perfect example.
Osbjorn - is Sagat the first character your picking up?? If so I’d suggest learning someone with better footsie’s (ground game) first (Ryu) or at least at the same time.
Sagat is not the first character I have played I’ve been using low tier characters since I started this game.
I started with Hakan in Super, moved onto Rufus then Adon then to Dudley in AE. I never truly understood the game because I played those characters.
Now that I have been playing Sagat and learning everything I can about him I feel like I know what SF is now.
I guess I should try Ryu but I don’t like him as much as Sagat, If you say there is something to learn then I will do it.
I have another question about Autocorrect TU’s on wake up it seems like there is timing involved in hitting the opponent out of their cross up.
I have been practicing on Akuma and I cant figure out the timing to punish his tatsu on my wake up. I just need to know when to push the button.
Play who you want to play, but just know that having good footsie’s(or at least knowing how they work) is a large portion of playing the game and none of those characters are really great at footsie’s.
Don’t fuck around trying to auto correct DP Akuma. It’s hit box fighter 4 with him, his set ups will make you swipe fresh air everyday of the week and your back in the mixer. Blocking LOTS against akuma is the way to go and waiting for your spot. Some characters have a low whiffing normal that can avoid tatsu’s for a throw but Sagat’s hurt box is so large your more susceptible to mix ups.
You can st.mp or jump back fierce the tatsu if you quick stand in time, but other wise your going to have to block. You can do it, but it’s risky.
I’m almost ashamed to ask this, but, I never knew you could connect TU after a F+HK, but I saw it in a replay recently. Is it spacing/button specific? From what I remember, he landed the F+HK basically at Sagat’s thigh, then followed up with TU.
