You need to have Angry Charge or it must be an EX TU.
What are the uses for HK Tiger Knee?
I’ve done a little experimentation on it and noticed;
Heavy Tiger Knee travels further than Medium.
After the mid-point of the Heavy, there are no hits, meaning you’re still travelling a good distance with no damage potential.
Medium has the tiniest of a longer hit range than Heavy.
Heavy travels higher than Medium.
So when and why would you use Heavy over Medium Tiger Knee? Heavy could be used as a anti-air, I guess, but I thought a SRK/Standing Heavy Kick would be better options…
Kara hk tiger knee reaches almost full screen as an anti-air.
Against some characters you can use hk tiger knee instead of mk in your combos.
What is the ideal distance i need to be at for safe tiger knees?
You can blockstring into it to get an idea but the blockstrings are character-specific and it the frame (dis)advantage depends slightly on whether the opponent is standing or crouching. To test you can record the dummy doing the blockstring and then holding up, then do a 1 frame throw ultra (like Hakan or Zangief U1). Make sure to hold up for like 4 seconds after the tiger knee so that the super flash doesn’t eat the recording. If it’s -1 or worse, you’ll be able to reversal ultra and hit Sagat. If it’s even or better, the ultra will whiff. You can test if it’s -2 with Chun’s super. -3 with Ken SRK.
Basically the Tiger knee has to hit as late as possible. I think the spacing is different for lk and mk. mk can be +0, lk can be +1. Against crouching opponents sometimes you can get them to block the first hit and then the second hit whiffs for a bit so it ends up being more meaty, but this is really character and spacing specific.
I have a question about all these ‘random’ LP, MP I see thrown out by Sagat’s after throwing a fireball. I’ve come up with a couple of theories why this is done, but was wondering which of these is correct, if any.
Reason number 1: They’re doing it do feint/faking a follow up tigershot to bait something from the opponent.
Reason number 2: They’re doing it to cover/anticipate any moves that might be invulnerable/avoid the tigershot, move through the tigershot and hit them.
I’ve wondered the same thing myself. It may be a timing thing. I play Sagat on occasion and I catch myself doing it too lol.
Mostly 1, and to control space. Can also be used for timing but no real need since you’re not charging. Most moves that go through tiger shot either

[]Are fast enough to punish the tiger shot therefore the attack only makes you more vulnerable
[]Aren’t fast enough to punish tiger shot but will beat the normal, or
[*]Are punishable on block so you shouldn’t hit the opponent out of it even if you can.

Is there info somewhere on effective FB zoning along with his FB traps? I assume the effective zoning is just a matter of experience but my FB game is pretty weak with Sagat even though I do ok with Ryu but I guess Ryu is just easy mode.
My apologize in advance for not looking through the thread but I don’t have time to do so at the moment.
5:05 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Aq4L0hxkX8 Is this an option select on backdashes? Can someone tell me how this is done? Is it just pressing meaty cr.LK and HP at the same time?
Yeah, it’s an OS. You can’t hit them at the same time, you hit hp a bit after cr.lk. Sagat can’t chain so he can’t do chain OS’s.
When doing the is it almost feels like a target combo. Crlk>crhp>cr lk. Hit the crhp closer to the second cr lk
Is there some trick to doing F.HK Kara tiger shot? I can do F.lk kara tiger shot ok, but I can’t seem to do F.HK kara shot, even if training mode. I always get an uppercut/knee or just a F.HK. I looked through some tutorials on youtube, but the only tips I’ve found is “slow down” but I find this hard since the kara window is shorter during F.HK or using half circle motion but this doesn’t work for me either.
I’ve also noticed that when I’m going wild spamming tiger shots sometimes it does the F.HK kara unintentionally, but I have no idea how to replicate it.
Any tips?
The f.hk kara is REALLY easy if you have a tiger shot out already. All you do is do qcf, :hk:,:k:. As long as your f.hk starts before your fireball hits or is blocked, you can’t actually throw a fireball so you get a f.hk instead. Then once your fireball disappears you’ve already input the motion for your second fireball, so it’s a simple matter of hitting the button again.
In terms of ‘real’ kara tiger shots, I’m awful at them but I noticed I get them more consistently when I barely move the stick to forwards and then go to neutral before hitting down.
I saw in the Construction Match Up that Sagat’s TKs can be: LK +1; MK 0; HK unsafe; EX +4 on block with a block string (any particular blockstring?). What I’m wondering is how did you guys come up with these figures?
For each frame that the second hit is meaty, the advantage on block increases by 1. So if the second hit is 2 frames meaty, it’s 2 frames safer than normal. At the very tip of tiger knee range, it’s hitting perfectly meaty and you get the frame advantages you quoted. It’s not as hard as that sounds.
EX is +4 on crouching characters and I think -1 on standing characters.
To be honest, I’m a little puzzled about this talk of meaty TKs. When I think of meatys, I think of moves I do on technical knocked down opponents, and these are moves that unless blocked will connect and give me frame advantage, e.g. cr.LK. So, when you talk about getting a second hit meaty (I presume you mean the second hit of a TK), in what situation is this exactly? Surely this isn’t on knocked down opponents… unless you know the spacing… Hmm, I think I may have my answer.
Well, if that is the answer, what is/how do I establish this range? I guess doing this on a knocked down opponent would require you knowing the spacing (but I think doing TKs on knock downs is crazy, correct me if I’m wrong). Otherwise, would it be off something like cr.LK cr.LK cr.MK TK maybe?
Yeah it’s all spacing.
I’m not a Sagat main but from experience far s.lk is a little better than cr.mk for spacing tiger knees. It’s character specific too like I said.
It’s character specific and there are a lot of them. Go into the lab with these:
cr.LK, cr.LK, cr.LP, fst.LK xx MK Knee
cr.LK, cr.LK, st.LP xx LK Knee
cr.LK, cr.LK, (pause), cr.LK xx LK Knee
cr.LK, cr.LK, cst.LK xx LK Knee
cr.LK, cr.LK, cr.LP, (pause), fst.MK ~ MK Knee
cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.LP xx LK Knee
cr.MP, cr.LP, cr.MK ~ MK Knee
cr.LK, cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.HP ~ MK Knee
This is off the top of my head (since my laptop is…somewhere…atm) so some are probably wrong. Some times you can add a pause and a string will work properly on someone it doesn’t with normal timing.
With LK you can do a “real” frame trap with cr.LP that can be hit confirmed with another cr.LP or go into another TK string.
With MK you can do fake frame traps. Basically it’ll work if they’re mashing buttons or haven’t practiced the timing.
2 quick questions, kinda basic but this is the thread for that, right?
Anyone have a write up (EL?) on proper use of shots? I tend to try and go rush down way too much, I’m WAY too reliant on ex TK’s to get in the face pretty safely, and often try and throw. I need to learn more, i try and throw out the shot obstacle course, but feel like i get to predictable and get jumped in combo’ed too consistently. I’ve been throwing out low shots outside of cr.mk range, pretty sure its too fast to react to. Also, any tips for using ex shots? I feel like i can just piss away my meter hoping for 2 quick hits, and i throw em at full screen where they are easily jumped. I want to get my projectile game more fundamentally sound. any help? Any links to vids with examples of excellent projectiles would be helpful too.
also, i feel like i SUCK at reaction tu’s for anti-airs. I mainly play online, with the 5f uppercut, is the online lag to blame or do i just need to work on reactions? Also, any tips for identifying safe jumps vs. stuff i should dp? when to reversal jump cross ups? When I try and wiggle autocorrect DP i feel like i rarely get it.
I might just need to STFU and block more too. Any help would be great!
