I need balrog help…i have no idea what to do once the rush down starts
Im also new to sagat and I was noticing this also standing Mk is good. It feels awkward for some reason though.
Sagats grab is 32 frames?
His f hk is 32 frames… so even if he had a kara throw (Which I VERY highly doubt), it would be very risky if you mess it up.
Oh k gotcha. I wana try this out now lol
Oh and I got a question about Kara TS. Is it normal to be having problems dong this on the right side of the screen? On the left I can pull it off but on the right I keep doing TU and TK. Perhaps Im just Scrubbing it up
I have a few questions for you guys.
I’ve been thinking of picking up Sagat because I thought it would be necessary for me to learn a character that can zone, as well as help me out with some bad matchups. I main Dictator at the moment, and Sagat seems like a great character to pick up to fill in the holes. However, the general impression that I’ve got from SSF4 Sagat is that he has been nerfed to the point where he isn’t worth playing anymore.
Personally I think that’s a load of BS, but how would you guys compare SF4 Sagat to SSF4 Sagat?
What changes made him so much weaker than his previous incarnation?
I still feel that Sagat is a strong character, but it seems that a lot of people dropped him simply because he stopped being “easymode.” Personally, I never really thought he was “easymode” at all, despite having combos into Ultra that dealt retarded damage. I’ve only heard things about Sagats nerfs so…
What did he gain in SSF4? Aside from the addition of the Angry Scar move, did he gain anything that buffed his overall game?
Damage reduction across the board, most significantly to st.LK, st.HK, Tiger Knee, and Tiger Uppercut (on grounded opponents). Far st.LK is no longer special move cancelable. Increased recovery frames to all Tiger Knee variations. Increased recovery frames to low Tiger Shots by one frame. Loss of some juggle properties on EX Tiger Shots (i.e., when an EX Tiger Shot absorbs any hit and connects, a regular Tiger Shot no longer juggles).
Aside from Ultra Combo 2 and cr.LKs linking into st.HKs up close, nothing noteworthy has been given to him if my memory serves me right. Angry Scar seems mediocre as you may as well use an EX TU to finish off combos. U2 has its moments in terms of punishing certain moves that he could not punish reliably in vanilla. EX Tiger Shots -> U2 is solid. It works from full sceen away.
Street Fighter IV Sagat is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, character in the game. Super Street Fighter IV Sagat is probably a mid tier. Perhaps a high mid tier. The best Sagat player in the world, Mago, has stated that Sagat is a mid tier character in this game.
In my humble opinion, if you want a fireball-based zoning character, go with Guile. It becomes hard to chuck fireballs in a game that has a lot of anti-fireball moves, many of which are ultra combos. Guile don’t give no fuck about all that because his LP Sonic Boom only has 29 total frames of recovery. In comparison, Sagat’s low Tiger Shots all have 45 total frames of recovery. You could also pick Ryu if you prefer a footsie-based approach to zoning. cr.MK remains the best poke in the IV series, and Ryu’s walking speed is not awful as Sagat’s is.
I am not bitching or bashing SSFIV Sagat, by the way. If you want a zoning character, there simply are better alternatives, all of who are better overall characters than Sagat is.
What m2dave said. He isn’t worth the time and energy it takes to master him. Especially considering he is a character that will take several months to fully master due to kara control, learning perfect TK spacing and how to zone properly. His footsies take hella long to learn because they are extremely defensive and reactive.
Do not learn this character Exceed. Learn Guile. He will take far less time to master and you will see much better results. Sagat got nerfs and still retains all his old weaknesses and now has many losing match-ups. He is just an average character now and not worth the time it takes to learn him if you want to be competitive.
Question regarding sagat’s counter move
I’m watching a stream right now and there is a sagat player who is occasionally throwing counter out during block strings. My question is this: first, is this safe on everything or is there certain strings that leave sagat unsafe before the counter comes out, and second, i’m also under the impression that this move gives you some kind of buff aswell, can someone explain to me if this is right and how the mechanics work?
i’ve done some basic searching thru the forums and i havnt really found anything usefull.
Thanks for your feedback and insight guys. The real reason I want to learn another character is because of the Guile match-up (Dictator/Guile sucks ass), so it’s funny that both of you would suggest I learn Guile. As far as zoning characters go, I agree that he would be a good choice and a more effective alternative to Sagat.
I know that Guile is solid character, but his playstyle just seems so… boring to me. That’s not to say I want a flashy, gimmicky character either. It’s funny EmblemLord, when you say not to learn Sagat, it makes me want to pick him up even more. What I’m really looking for is a character that can zone well with projectiles and that has a decent inside game at the same time. I’m guessing what made me levitate towards Sagat is my past experiences with Vanilla Sagat, and the sheer damage output he had.
Though I understand that the several nerfs he got in Super really gimped his game and took away some of his pressure game. I’m really just trying to explore my options as far as zoning characters go. Decisions, decisions…
Play Ryu or Akuma if you want a good zoning character with the ability to play an inside game Kerry.
you can FADC his command normals(f.LK and f.HK)it takes meter but is so fucking fast your opponent won’t notice it.
So people often space out for 31 frames of the game? And if they punish you, you lose the meter and eat a super damaging combo all because you wanted to get closer with a zoning character…
… Okay, sorry for the noob ass question: What’s the general strategy with Claw? I’ve fought three online today, won two just by rushing up to them and attacking relentlessly. This was after I lost a match by being defensive and trying to counter. How do you stop his over air attacks? They seem to cross up, is this just a 50/50 guess thing? Does it just come down to trying to Tiger Uppercut all of his air shenanigans on reaction?
Do absolutely everything you can to get him into a corner and you win… He is easily the worst character once he gets into the corner.
I think I’m gonna pick up Akuma. He’s pretty fun.
In other news, I just got a console to play SSF4 on, so I can finally practice. I’ll still play a bit of Sagat.
well I took about > 6 months off for personal reasons and I’m just now getting back into SFIV/SSFIV…but I have one question: Have the top Sagat players moved on for any reasons? Mago, Ojisan, RF, LI joe? I know I’m forgetting a lot of notable players but it’s been awhile.
You can find some good videos of mago playing sagat on youtube, he’s still great with him. but I haven’t seen any new videos of other notable sagats from vanilla. It could be due to the lack of an arcade perhaps.
we must play to see if Vega is absolute shit in the corner
add me. I’d love to be shown what’s up.
