Thanks, Shadrende, I’ll try those tips soon. Also, did I see the guy in the first video end with backwards? Could that possibly prevent TU/TKs? That’s be cool.
Not sure if that prevents the TU/TK. The key seems to be a brief neutral pause before the HCF.

Check out Post #2 it goes over the method in a little more detail. (The whole thread is fantastic for learning more Sagat gameplay.)
how do I get outta vega’s izuna throw vortex?
Late TU on which side you think he will pop up on. Complete guess.
@ ryboy
move stick back and forth from 1 to 3 and do the upper as late as possible.
sometimes when you have meter a AS charge will come out so be careful when you got some meter.
also use jab for the upper.
just like when gief has U1
works for me anyways
Inside game
Hey new Sagat player here and I was just wondering what to do if the opponent gets close. I can zone them out pretty well but when they get in I find myself spamming certain moves (standing HK, crouching MK>tiger shot, lk Tiger Knees mainly) and I really have no game plan other than hope one of those push them back a little.
I know it depends on the matchup but are there any overall general strategies? Any help would be great.
I’m in the same boat, newish to Sagat. What you’ve listed are pretty much the tricks to use that I’ve seen. Throws are great too, as Sagat’s throw really launches them across the screen. If you’re trapped in a corner sometimes take a breath and be patient. You might have to block a combo string or two to find your opening. Head over to the Sagat video thread and watch some videos to see what other players have been doing, and when they use those moves.
MK xx LTS is my favorite because it pushes them back so much on block. If you land a hit, lk TK is great.
I suggest NOT using cr. mk. It has slow start up, bad recovery, and moves you forward.
Use cr. lp because it has 3 frame start up or cr. mp which has a good hitbox and is relatively fast at 5 frames. Far st. lp is also good because of its 5 frame start up and range. Cancel these to LTS.
St. mk is a normal that most new Sagat players don’t know about. It’s good. Cr. hp is also okay; it’s slow but has very good range.
Good to know, thanks man. Do you recommend just using cr.MK in combos like J.HK cr.MK xx LTS?
Well, try to end combos with a TU (or TK if you’re really close, since it does more damage).
But yeah, cr. mk can be good for after a jump attack or after you do a LTS FADC combo (because the cr. mk will move you forward making certain combos possible).
Oh and just another thing. Like on defense, it’s good to do like cr. mp (or whatever) xx LTS, and you should be able to hit confirm this to FADC whatevers. It’s really good to turn the tables from defense to offense. Practice this with random block in training mode. Always do cr. mp xx LTS, but FADC only when it hits.
Nice, I’ll start using cr.MP. I never paid attention to how much cr.MK moves you forward, thanks man!
Hey guys, noob Sagat here.
I sent Jeenyus a private message because I didn’t know this thread existed, he straight WHOOPED me with Sagat before so I wanted to ask him for some tips.
So one of my questions is when I watch videos of good Sagat’s, I notice a lot of them can trade their Tiger uppercuts into the round house kick. I understand the mechanics but I very rarely find myself in that situation. Does it matter what type of Tiger Uppercut it is?
Second, how long did it take you guys to get a FULL grasp of cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lp, TU. I can pull it off in training like 60% of the time, but never online. I know practice makes perfect, I just wanted to know if anyone else struggled with this.
Good tip on the MK, it seriously kicks ass.
Lastly, Balrog. He’s a straight bitch. When he gets me in the corner he sexually violates me, whether it be his god like cr.HK or his jabs or the grapple. I play against some really good Balrogs, and they always just crouch just out of range and wreck me. I rarely focus attack, but I always get frustrated when I think Balrog SHOULD crumble but doesn’t.
Thanks guys

Don’t worry to much about pulling it off online, 60% offline is a good start.
Does Sagat have a kara-throw?I was messing around in training and it seems standing HK “cancels” with throw although it doesnt add any extra range.Have u guys found anything?
Tiger Slap, 60% offline is pretty good if you’re just starting. I have a similar thing going on, where online I can do about half the stuff I can do in practice. I realized that a lot of it is because I try to rush it out or react with it quicker than I would if I were in training mode.
For the trade jump ins, set a training dummy to jump in HK and practice doing a late TU (as the dummy is hitting you). I use HP TU not sure if it’s the best to use or not, but when it trades you can punish.
From the 30 Sagat questions answered thread:
Q: Can I set up kara throws from f+LK or f+HK?
A: Supposedly, you can, but it is not very useful.

It it depends on what tiger uppercut is used as lp TU may be stuffed at times depending on the countering move or trade in some situations but leave you in a longer “stunned” state giving your opponent time to land and react appropriately. Other factors to consider are the point where the hit is traded and the juggle state as a result. In most cases, a 3/4-1/2 screen jump in from your opponent can be punished or traded with HP TU for a juggle state that will allow the F+HK hit.

I think everyone struggled with the BnB combos at first, especially the c.lk, c.lk, c.lp, TU combo since the link between lp and TU is tight. Over time it becomes second nature however you seem to have it down for the most part with 60% efficiency.

I can tell you what everyone will probably tell you to begin with which is do your best to stay out of the corner. Maintain your ground with well zoned LTS and normals that have high priority but try not to creep back as you progress through the match. If and/or when you find yourself in the corner, wait it out for a moment and look for a pattern in order to anticipate and react or a moment of error to punish/escape and be ready for the tech while your looking for a pattern and/or escape because we all know the b.rogz think they can just walk up and toss us magically while in the corner.
I’m pretty sure that the added range in the throw is from pressing forward prior to the fHK and actually walking forward before executing the throw. I also think that the risk is way too high from timing it incorrectly and having a move that will leave you completely vulnerable for 32 frames come out just out of the hope that you add a pixel or two.
Thanks for the answers guys!I was hoping with the severe nerf sagat got that capcom would sneak a buff “under the radar”( my initial thought was that standingHK cancels with special moves, so why wouldn’t sagat have a kara-throw the way ryu has?) !And i agree with BOOTY that it isn’t worth the risk to try it mid-game.
