Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Some characters you should just make a mental note to go straight into ultra after FADC. I wouldn’t be surprised if the frame data for gouken allowed only a 1 or 2 frame window to land the F.HK.

it’s not frame data it’s a matter of how the hitboxes are moving.

Thought so.

Problem is when that’s all they do. I can’t get out of it at all, and it becomes a real struggle, since I just get stuck in a corner, and it becomes pot luck for me jumping out of the corner, or just getting the timing right to counter. But if they resume, it becomes hard again.

If Sakura had a good fireball, I could runaway and keep them at bay, but she doesn’t, so I can only go in, face to face.

If the Sagat starts doing something else, like a big combo, I can usually get around that quite easily and punish them, unless they’re really good, in which case I was going to lose anyway, but the really good Sagat’s never seem to do that, they’ll just beat me using really strong combos :frowning:

It’s just those knees and crouching low kicks :frowning: Fortunately, I don’t come across people like that too often, but it’s never an easy fight when I do.

Use the Search this Forum option and type in - Corner Crossup - and you should find your answers.

you search “Corner Crossup” tell me what you find.

I didn’t see any fireball in that video O_O, but to answer your question all you need to do is hold onto the focus a few frames longer. Don’t immediately dash out of it like you normally would.

You don’t need to reverse the QCFx2 motion or anything, the game will do it all for you

However you want to put it… it feels as though there’s a window about 1 frame long in order for the kick to connect.

I find the thread.

When you’re already crouching, is it faster to do a 5-frame normal (like c.mp) than it is to stand up and do a 5-frame normal (like far s.lp), or are they the same speed?

I’m pretty sure it’s the same speed. Otherwise c.lk > s.lk wouldn’t link at max range but it does

Same speed. Startup frames is basically the speed of the attack before it starts to become active.

Also consider the frames it takes to go from crouch to stand and vice versa.

Can someone explain safe knee to me? I tried searching and couldn’t find a thread/post plus the damn 300 second hiatus…

with correct spacing of a tiger knee either by walking, or using normals, fireballs etc. you can do a tiger knee which will be safe on block meaning they cant punish you after they block it. you only want 1 hit out of the tiger knee and the tip of the knee barely touches your opponent.

yeah and even with “safe” tiger knees you can’t be too predictable because if your opponent has a DP type move he can shoryuken your ass out of a tiger knee trap.

Sometimes I get tiger knee happy for chip damage and get SRKed in the face by Ryu/Ken players.

People like Claw (Vega/Balrog) though are fucked in the corner though if you set up proper tiger knee setups.

I’ll make this as brief as possible. Tiger Knee is regularly very risky on block. The move has 14-16 active frames (depending on which button you push). No matter what you do, the tiger knee will go through all of it’s animation frames. So if you do a tiger knee from very close and you get both hits during the early active frames, Sagat will still go through the rest of his active frames and his recovery frames, your opponent will recover from guard stun and take their free throw or free jabs into combos. But this means that if you can hit with the later active frames, Sagat will go through his recovery frames while your opponent is still in guard stun and you will recover safely. I think it is even possible to recover at +4 frame advantage, but that’s with a perfectly spaced knee. +1 or even frames is a very real possibility. This is why smarter players stand up to block tiger knees. Standing makes sure that Sagat hits them earlier with the knee and therefore doesn’t recover as well.

Also, be aware that some characters have normals that cause them to get very low to the ground and go under tiger knees. I know the shotos can do crouching forward (medium kick) and cause Sagat’s tiger knee to whiff. Chun Li can do the same with crouching short (light kick).

How much time (percentage) should I spend in the training room compared to playing online matches ?
Somehow I feel I should do more training, but practicing link combos for hours (yeah slow learner  ) is just a bit boring compared to an actual fight :coffee:

From your experience, how do you improve the fastest ?

Too many variables to consider.

But I actually spend 75% of my time (of the amount of hours I put into a day) in Training mode to work on blockstrings, combos, exploring, etc etc and 25% on matches. Once I nail down almost everything, 75% matches 25% training mode.

Then again

actual matches gives 2x the experience then computer matches, training mode gives 1.5x experience then computer.

Thanks. What characters can use the standing block trick? Which can utilize other tricks?

Yeah a perfectly spaced lk knee seems to give the most frame advantage, at least that’s what my battles have shown me. I could be wrong. I’m thinking +2 or +3 when they block it crouching. A meaty knee on wake-up would probably be +4.
