Jap players backdash because if you do a blocked TU forward FADC on a jap player, they’re going to hit you. It’s not nearly as safe as I get away with using it on some people, esspecially on xbox live. so many people just don’t punish it.
I tend to use backdash but it should be noted that at max range, a TU backdash ultra will wiff or drop after the initial tiger knee, wiffing the first uppercut. I’ve been trying to find a way to Kara his f+HK into an ultra to remedy this problem. I know it’s possible because I’ve done it before using the freeze frames of my opponent’s ultra. Sagat had his leg raised and I knew i hit F+hk, and knowing I was going to eat the ultra anyways, i did the motion and kara canceled it into an ultra. Has anyone tried this? If it’s possible, TU backdashes would be gold, and might be able to connect with more hits of the ultra.
If you’re going to FADC, you want to use fierce every time they are on the ground because it has the most horizontal reach, and the FADC cancels the extra recovery frames of a fierce.
:r:+:hk: (kara cancel) :dp:+:hp:, FADC Back, Ultra is great. If they block, you’re safe, if it hits it usually hits counter hit, which is when you wanna backdash. Even if it isn’t a counter hit the ultra connects. It also covers less range on the screen, which means less corner ultras! Be ready for a potential trade! Noone see’s this coming from that range, it makes people panic
Combos should end with fierce for better range and damage. Even with the fierce, TUs could wiff in most combos, so make sure you always use fierce for the most range possible.
LP TU is your best friend for anti aits because it has the least priority over any of his TU’s. This means trades all day! Just like Ryu, Sagat can LP TU trade, then add a F+HK, and ultra at the cost of no meter. If you’re in range to LP TU, definately use it, and be prepaired to trade. It can also be a nice baiting tool and safe at some distances in certain matchups. It’s situational, be consious of it. Kara cancel a F+HK from this and punish what would otherwise be a safe jump in.
Kara canceling F+HK into the different strengths of tiger uppercut is great because it really opens up your options. What would normally be a safe spot for the opponent to jump to can open right up for Sagat if you learn to guage which TU to use.
(Also EX TU has insane priority over anything. Abuse it to punish half the cast’s jump ins.)
I use the kara knee to close distance after a far knockdown. I only cancel into tiger shot if for some reason I want to approach, but that use is limited imo.
I assume nobody answered the above question because the execution of Kara tiger shots does not exist on a reliable basis. Lately I have started to use a different BnB combo. Can you tell me if there is a downside to me using c.lk,c.lp,c.lp>TS/TU vs c.lk,c.lk,c.lp>TS/TU? So far from my experience online I have seen less reversals performed on me from using the first combo I listed.
can you make a vid of you doing a couple back-to-back kara shots, w/ inputs turned on? i’d like to see how the motions come out. right now, the way i do it isn’t too reliable.
I have no vid recording equipment. But I’ll just tell you.
There are two main ways.
Do f+lk then immediately slide your thumb to back then do the Tiger Shot motion. It should come out.
Do the f+lk then just wait until Sagat steps forward completely and do the Tiger shot the instant before the kick would begin to come out. You have to actually lift your thumb off the forward direction you used to do the f+lk.
ultimately it’s just the timing. There needs to be a specific amount of time between the forward input and the tiger shot motion because other wise the pad reads it as a late TU motion and that will come out instead.
Sliding your thumb from forward to back then doing the motion is meant to give the right sense of timing, but once you get used to it you won’t need to do that anymore and then you can just use method two which is just pure timing.
Press forward and light kick, go to neutral, then go to back (as said above), then do half-circle forward and end in up-forward and press kick or punch.
By going to neutral and then to back, this will delay your timing enough for the Tiger Shot to come out. Also, by ending the half-circle froward motion in up-forward, you will be forced to finish the motion instead of ending in down-forward which will always give you a Tiger Knee or Uppercut.
