Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Get a stick like a real man!

Why is there always talk of

c.lk x 2, c.lp TU instead c.lk x 3, TU?

I could be wrong, but I think it’s because of how c. lk x 2 is a timing link, and following up with c. lp is just easier. I don’t wanna make it sound like c. lk x 2 is super hard to do, it’s just that c. lk x 2, c. lp, seems a little easier than trying to link 3 c. lk’s.

Quick question. Against Abel, what are ways to counter his crossup j. mk after knockdown? I think it’s j. mk. Not sure if it’s j. hk. I constantly run into crossup, then immediate command grab, orr tick jab into command grab, etc.

It was getting silly. lol. Do I just need a well-timed reversal uppercut, or are there other safer options?

I haven’t been able to get wakeup TUs on crossups to go the direction I want them to if they cross me up at the right time.

Anyone got the frame data for Sagat’s LTS? I’m trying to utilize cLK cMP~cLP LTS (Tsuji method) into my new BnB, but am just wondering which LTS has better start-up/recovery.

Hi

My main is Blanka and I have been playing Sagat lately as secondary.
I have been playing a lot of training to get used of his moves / combo’s.

All is working well accept for 1 thing: How do you guys manage to use a tiger shot in his combo’s as I keep throwing TU’s instead. While I perform his BNB combo’s i’m holding db on my stick. Should I hold another direction or so?

If someone could give me a step by step move list to perform a tiger shot in his combos I would be very happy. I hope this question hasnt been asked 100 times as I didnt manage to find it…

Thx in advance

Tried this on joypad yesterday. (analogue)

Hold :df: during the string then just QCF for the TU.

What works for me is holding :df: when doing bnb combo. If the bnb is being blocked, during the bnb combo, slide back to :d:. Once it finishes, then slide your thumb :d::df::r: and doing TS. If it hits, keep holding :df: and once it finishes, do :d::df: to do the TU.

I’m not expert, so maybe someone has a better idea.

Uppercut that ish. You don’t even need to reverse it most of the time. Most Abel players hit the cross up early so that you’ll be out of block stun when they land. I uppercut whenever I “sense” a shallow cross up

I keep getting crossed up by Blankas and Giefs on wake up all day, and it seems like there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s been suggested in this thread that we try HCB + P as they’re passing over us, but in my experience this is spotty at best. I’ve also read on Shoryuken Wiki that :db::df::db: + P works as an anti-cross up Tiger Uppercut, which works a little bit better for me.

What exactly should I do to increase my success rate? When do I put in the input?

You can NOT beat a correctly timed cross-up. Now, granted, many people will time theirs incorrectly (especially online), but if they do it right your tigeruppercut will just die. You just have to deal with the ensuing mixup and keep them from getting in position for performing a crossup in the first place.

Your primary options with a crossup (at least vs. Zangief, I feel like I know this matchup much more than any other) are:

  • Jump back if you see it coming. You’ll get hit, but you get reset/fall out of the deadly mixup zangief has. This doesn’t work in the corner.
  • Shoryu after you block the cross up. This will work if he attempts lariat, SPD/ultra/super, or non-EX greenhand. Ex greenhand will beat it. if you can, FADC. this loses to zangief’s normals.
  • block after blocking the cross up. This will work if he attempts lariat, ex or non-ex green hand, and jab/cr.short.
  • jump straight up after blocking. this will work if he attempts SPD/Ultra/Super, or any greenhand. if he mistimes a lariat and you end up in the air you can probably beat it with neutral j.mk but not if they position themselves right but there’s a chance they won’t expect it. if he does his ultra, you can just land and ultra, you can’t do this for jumping back. This is very dangerous of a choice generally.
  • jump back after blocking. this will work if he attempts SPD/Ultra/Super, or any greenhand. This is very dangerous of a choice generally.

If he lands and cr.short/cr.jab, you have to repeat these set of choices after each normal. If you lose the mixup once, he gets another one. Quite often once Zangief gets you in this position and they’re any good, the match is probably over.

thx for the tip, I’ll try it tonight  Ah and btw I’m using a stick, but I think that works in my favor

Thanks very much my friend :).

Not a Sagat player but wondering if someone can explain to me frame data wise, why if you make a player block the second hit of tiger knee it’s safe. My best guess is that you kill recovery frames by making it hit in the active frames no? Thanks everyone.

you are correct, you kill recovery frames by making it hit deep in the active frames.

note that a tiger knee can hit with just the second hit and still be very unsafe, when that’s not deep enough.

Whoa THIS guy!!

What’s up Haunts. Good to see you around here. We gotta get some games in sometime.
