I hope characters dont cost $8 dollars each cause that is an absurd rip-off just like how COD you pay $10 for freakin batch of maps, R U SERIOUS?
It’s cool to have DLC, but when a game like this is coming I feel as if we really shouldn’t be eyeballing for it until the game comes out. I mean it’s crazy enough with us trying to figure out all these characters through silhouettes, keep up with all the latest tweaks via cons, literal teasing trailers… etc. IMO, If I go to the store to pick this title up, I expect it to be a “touch-and-go” type of game like it’s prequel(Dreamcast-PS2 style or better); in the beginning you have skin and bones for a character roster, but when you play it over and over, more content will be unlocked
Rival Schools character pack please…
DLC for stuff that affects gameplay is always a bad idea. You thought scrubs hated Magneto from MVC2 or Zero from TVC before? Try taking them out of standard and telling casual gamers that get murdered that if they want to compete now they have to pay for them. If you’re talking 30 dollars anyway the smart thing to do is just release a new edition.
Haha, it’s $15 for that ish now. Where you been!
This is the key. Roster DLC is always going to piss people off, because: If the unlocked characters are strong, people feel they’re being extorted: They can’t compete unless they cough up more dough. If the unlocked characters are weak, some people don’t care, the ones who buy it feel cheated. And tournament organizers (etc.) are annoyed regardless.
I don’t think “touch-and-go” means what you think it means.
Which means the situation is no different…
I like how people use “Well, if you’re just going to charge for DLC, instead of alienating people, just make a new edition” line. People…it will alienate them all the same if they don’t want to pay, the only difference is, they won’t have anyone to play with if they decide to not play for the new edition. At least not paying for DLC, you can still play against people, you just can’t use the new characters yourself, and since 9 times out of 10, people whine about how any new characters they add are terrible and they’ll never use them, it seems like the better option.
$10 for a map pack is never bad. It’s bad when it’s $10 for each map.
I always thought DLC for characters was an awful idea because it’s a way to keep people constantly buying something for the game. I hope Yun/Yang are free downloads but knowing Capcom they will make SSF4T.
DLC is a standard nowadays, so yes. Expect all games to have DLC from here on lol.
Incorrect. Of course it’s different. Plenty of casual gamers still play vanilla SF4. The numbers are down but they’re still there. DLC removes that option completely. They’re now forced to play with whatever their opponent purchased. Separate editions inherently regulate which options are available. You cannot do that with DLC.
I wouldn’t mind paying for DLC for this game as long as it’s not on the disc already and if it contains C. Viper, Strider, Phoenix Wright, and a marvel girl, considering if these characters don’t make it in initially.
Yeah and there’s a wrong way of doing it. DLC for the last boss, to play online, or for a secret character. It’s milking more cash from the consumer and most guys just say “omg but itz cheap just pay!” You’re missing the point if that’s all you can say.
So you’re agreeing its the concept of DLC you disagree with
*which is fine of course, but I’m tired of people saying oh my god its too expensive, its not fair!
BB lets you pick version when you make a lobby. Old versions don’t allow DLC characters. So yeah its entirely possible.
Would also be a really easy lobby switch actually: “Allow DLC Characters? Yes/no”
company endorsed community splits are a terrible idea.
People have such low faith in the community
I honestly don’t know what to say to comments like this… Communities already have splits in them, between players who are happy with what they have and players who aren’t. By neglecting players of options, the players who aren’t happy stop playing, or don’t play/enjoy the game to it’s full potential, where as the players who are happy carry on as normal. So in reality it’s quite the opposite, by giving players the option, you keep the unhappy players playing, and you make the experience better for the happy players by filtering out the unhappy ones.
No one is going to be happy with everything, and while more options can be good, you can’t ignore that there’s some section that’ll be content enough to play the normal game provided Capcom doesn’t appear to endorse their style of play. Similarly, that particular case seems to indicate that Capcom doesn’t have a lot of faith in their product, if you can simply ignore their own updates to the game and potential effects on tournament scenes for that game.
This conversation has already happened so I’m not going to go into it a lot here, but yeah I’m not fond of options when it comes to online play. If somebody is playing a character you don’t have, deal with it. If you want the character buy it. If you don’t want to buy it don’t, just don’t bitch. Let’s keep the option changing to a minimum. Rounds and timer(which is already a pain to have people set it to like 30 sec or infinite in some games.) I seriously doubt anything like that is going to keep people from playing.
Absolutely true, its just so tempting to try to please everyone
… when many people just can’t be pleased at all.
