Safe to assume DLC for MvC3?

Hey guys, I’m definitely looking forward to MvC3, but I’m wondering if Capcom is considering adding in fan favorite characters via DLC, among other things, like how they’re doing with the possible DLC update for SSF4.

And since I’ve heard they’re straying away from the idea of clone characters, maybe Ken won’t make the cut (especially since Deadpool inherited a shoryuken). But I’m sure there is a huge fan base both on this site and worldwide, that there could end up being an outcry for the addition of Ken.

I bet there could even be some petitions made for Marvel characters who didn’t make the cut once the game is finally released.

So this is not a thread to speculate which characters could be DLC (since we’re all still speculating who will make the first/final draft), this is a thread to speculate if there will be any DLC.

And if you think there will be DLC, what’s your opinion on that?

They’ve already stated several times that the game’s being created with DLC in mind.

ok well since the cat’s out of the bag, what’s everybody’s opinion on it?

The usual. Everyone’s hype at first, then when they realize insert character here isn’t getting in, they rage and call for Capcom’s head, claiming they’re stupid and the shit should be free. Sound familiar?

well I was hoping for more civility since it’s still early in development. I’ve heard that MvC3s “final draft” roster will be smaller than SSF4’s current roster, so I’d be kind of disappointed if the “final draft” of MvC3 feels and looks incomplete. I hope that the hard copy of MvC3 has enough depth to it that I won’t feel the need to buy DLC to find the depth I’m looking for.

It is guaranteed to look and feel (and be) incomplete once they release DLC that you haven’t bought.

When you get right down to it, “We’re going to release a lot of cool stuff via DLC!” means, to gamers committing themselves to keeping up with MvC3, the same thing as “We’re going to charge you an extra $20 or more!” So it’s hard to get too hyped for that.

Only should be free if it’s already on the disc don’t have a problem if it was added later because they used the revenue gained from the game’s sales to make that dlc. DLC should be extra not what’s already there.

Fuck DLC.

Just because it’s already on the disc doesn’t mean it has to be free. In the past things HAD to be in the disc, and for Wii games that do get DLC it has to be. Besides, the developers decide what is in the official game and what is DLC, not anyone else. They have their right to make it free or not as well, and I’m fine with both of those statements; I won’t really complain when it’s not priced very high to begin with. Now if the price is higher than that for something undeserving of it, THEN I’ll complain.

I’d love if they had some sort of demo for the content before forcing you to buy it to try it, but that kinda ruins some things I guess.

I don’t see how it’s any less “complete” without the DLC content though. =/

couldnt say it better myself

DLC stands for down loadable content which means if it’s on the disc it technically ain’t DLC.

But if it’s not on the disk, and just placeholder data, then it’s entirely possible.

ArcSys did this with Makoto, and will do it with Valk and Platinum for BB. They are the first by actual definition of “DLC characters”

DLC is great IMO, that way you can get new characters without buying a new copy of the game every year.

I agree with this. Especially in a game like this, where people can still look forward to seeing their favourite characters even after they’ve seen the final roster.

agreed. its practically extortion. fuck that shit. give me the game then leave me the fuck alone so i can play it.

Hmm, must’ve missed the part where they hold a gun to your hand and demand you pay for it. Well, I guess you’re not getting the game then.

patches are DLC -_-

i really couldn’t care less about alternate costumes though

Which are free, and are usually only used to fix glitches…the only reason SSF4 is getting a balance patch is because the Arcade game is getting rebalanced, and discrepancies are bad.

But if you hate patches that much, never go online.

yes but MvC2 didn’t have multiple releases. Just been a progression from MvSF to MvC2. No DLC. You get what you pay for. Granted the arcades were still alive back then, and the internet was less prominent in daily life.

BB lets you play old versions online, so its doable. I doubt Capcom would bother though.
