If you can’t afford it, I’m sure you’ll be able to find people here on SRK that use the DLC characters to practice against. Not a perfect solution but it’s A solution… The best we can do to reduce the DLC issue is bitching until they lower the price… That’s as far as it will go though.
But as I said, many people will buy the DLC. Unless Capcom decides to be a giant prick and says NO DLC? NO NETPLAY 4 U, you should be able to get in practice against these add-ins.
Hmmmm the thing with SSF4 is that from a R&D standpoint they had to test & work on alot more than just the new characters. They added balances changes to the existing cast. They added new stages. They added new online modes & options. They also had to address the issue of creating all new discs and sending them to retailers around the world. So it’s hard to say what the costs of simply adding new characters would be when we talk about the $40 price tag. Ideally that would mean that the 10 new characters should have been even cheaper than $4 each.
This is what I think they should do with MvC3 DLC: all balance patches and game mode updates (like endless lobbies in SSF4) should be free. DLC characters should be released in batches of 4 for $10.00/batch. New costumes will be priced separately at whatever $$$.
Everyone needs to realize that like it or not, we are never going to get new characters for free. We either pay for them over time via DLC, or we all buy Super MvC3 next year. Characters take way more R&D time & money than costumes, and if they are charging us for costumes then you should be damn sure they are charging us for characters.
EDIT: And if you are of the opinion that MVC3 doesn’t need more characters, then you need to look around the internet at all the casual players who are clamoring for Phoenix Wright / Mega Man X / Gambit / Jean Grey / etc. Capcom is going to appeal to those people through DLC whether you like it or not. The casual market is what is going to make this game sell, not the hardcore. The thousands of people who showed up to play this at NYCC don’t give two fucks about EVO.
the process of carefully examining something before agreeing to buy is called due diligence (ie: covering your ass). OTHO, thinking that MvC3 is a great or a bad game (i never commented either way) before it’s released is an assumption. i’m not adding to the pile. there’s been plenty going both ways in this forum since day one.
In fairness, your posts today imply a fairly negative opinion of the game I can’t check back on my phone, but wasn’t it something like ‘if this game is as mediocre as the other recent capcom games’ or such?
My point is that calling people that are excited suckers for the hype our hoi-polloi (altho props for the term :D) is unfairly judgmental on others.
We’ll see. I think it’ll heavily depend on how often they release new characters and how many at a time. If they only do 2 at a time like Jill and Shuma then yea…they may do something like 3.99-4.99 per character. However if they do a larger batch like 4 at a time then I could see them being cheaper.
Actually, shit, do we even know whether Shuma and Jill can be bought individually or will we have to buy them in a pack?
I think they do it with my layouts of each pack. There will be pairings mosr definitely
the “cameo” characters become characters, all of a sudden pheonix wright and x are possible because “we demanded them”
The deconfirm comments was just to build hype for dlc, and most people are saying hey now “my favorite character can be in possibly”
so to make sure they get it they purchase dlc to show it is wanted.
Taking the word 10% of thE audience as gospel, while shunning the 75% of the audience who will buy everything they put out there is awesomely dull thinking
think like a businessman and it makes sense.
Man yup Ted Sr shits all over Ted Jr, fucking orton clone
This…just longer and trying not to sound negative. DLC’s been going for years, and frankly there’s nothing wrong if prices aren’t up there with the cost of GAMES (o hai COD packs). Course that’s exaggerating, but almost. I really don’t see the harm in it.
Think of it this way; CAPCOM = government charging optional taxes (GIVING you something in return) in order to continue creating what you want and improve on it. This stuff happens everywhere. If you have 10$ out of your xxx paycheck-which hopefully isn’t a poor man’s lifeline-I’m sure you can spare that AND support Cappy.
The “incomplete game” comments in numerous places are getting pretty annoying.
