Absolutely right SRk_Llama, just want to add that doing c.mk -> fb uses the same principle to minimize accidental srk, so start crouching(down backward)
Interesting that if you want to do c.mk->srk, then this shortcut should work crouch (down foward) mk -> foward punch
Thanks Llama and Adorkable. Also, Mickey, I hope you continue to share your insight on your blog, especially about your analysis of Daigo’s goal to limit opponent options.
very good stuff
a valuable addition would be having controller input displayed on screen and maybe shots of hand movements to kind of bring everything together – when and where to do what motions and how the screen looks at that time. i imagine those additions would be very helpful for those wanting some more insight on more complex moves (self included).
Just watched these tutorials and wanted to say thanks for doing this man, really appreciate the time you’ve put into this. Awesome tutorials, i learned so much.
Looking forward to those weekly annotated matches for sure!
I’d just like to comment that Mickey’s tutorials provide a basis of how Ryu (in this game) SHOULD be played. This is coming from a Ryu player myself since September when my school got this game. However, each player should gradually develop his/her own style from experience. Good job Mickey on this tutorial! I’ve played you like once or twice on live before on either Quy77 or Aznmnky3283.
I think you should create another short tutorial about meter management for Ryu as I think that’s critical for his gameplay. Reason is I still see a lot of Ryu’s recklessly throwing out ex fireballs or whatever for no apparent reason whereas I’m conserving half of the time which allows me to win in the long run. Also, when you have meter, it creates a new level of mind games for your opponent. I know it was hinted in your tutorials and in your annotated match, but I don’t think the new players might get it just yet.
Some things you could put in the tutorial:
When to/not to pressure with EXs
How to/what builds up your meter
2 meters vs full super meter, when to conserve or attack
I don’t know, if that’s too much of a hassle for you, then I guess players could just learn from experience.
Wow…we got a smart player in the house fella’s! Thanks for the encouragement man…and yeah what your saying, and as you’ve seen and mentioned, I slightly hint at how important Ryu’s meter is to him. I’ll most likely do a video of what your talking about, but that stuff is REALLY good shit…that I need to build towards I think. Thank you so much for the ideas though…I really appreciate it and I will definitely be making an effort to convey these kinds of things.
I actually was making a lot of posts in the Ryu thread (back in the day like in December) about how IMPORTANT his meter is…about how the super can help so much in matches…how a certain matchup delegates WHAT you use your meter for…stuff like that.
All in all, I’m glad other Ryu players are learning these kinds of advanced thought processes. I’ll definitely keep this in mind for a future video.
It’s place where you can stream live feeds. Lots of gamers have live feeds of all sorts of types of games, Halo3, Gears2, SF4, any new game that comes out.
Teach these guys some of that fireball safety zone, where you can throw a fireball, and still uppercut in time if they tried to jump. Shit has helped me a ton when first starting out, after learning that seems like everything else just came together.
There’s already a character match up thread for Ryu. However, there’s also not that many matches of ryu vs blanka/boxer. I find boxer my hardest match up. The key against Blanka matchup is conserve your super meter. When you have your super meter, it pretty much negates his attempt to ball you. You can do that or get close against Blanka.
Video 3 was really well done! Great job with the editing, and adding those real match videos makes it really worth watching.
I think character specific matchup videos would also be very helpful (though I can imagine making videos for those will really take a lot of effort and will be time consuming). I’m really having trouble with Balrog and Blanka players. I’ve read the Ryu Matchup thread and they’re still quite tough to beat despite all the advice there. Perhaps other Ryu players are also having trouble with certain characters, and this is where a character specific matchup video would help.
If it’s too much effort to make a video for every character, just think of which opponents takes the most effort for a Ryu player to beat. Those might be good characters to make video tutorials on.
Yeah, I’ve been through it numerous times, but if I may suggest, there is a significant difference than explication in the form of text and the actual demonstration visually.
Another juxtaposition I would make is that while some of the suggestions made in the match-up thread work theoretically, seeing them played out against quality opposition visually would make for a stronger impact.
It’s just basically an expansion of his “step-by-step” videos. Dissecting part by part, what both players are thinking and what viable options each player possesses and at what risk.
