I don’t get the whole “too long” feeling at all. Simply because I’m maining this character, so I’ll take all the help I can get. Not that I’m asking this of you, but it would be so cool to see annotated matches of matchups between Ryu and every other character to show different strategies.
Like all tuts, it’s all fine and dandy to talk about different combos when you pound on a lifeless dummy, but when it’s another person controlling that character? There’s also the fact that your opponent could have Ryu down to a science as far as what to expect, by either playing as him or playing against him enough. So showing strats as to how to get around certain characters ( Guile, Blanka, Honda, and Abel come to mind) with Ryu would be very beneficial to lesser players.
Again, I’m not asking this of you, just saying it would be great, seeing as you seem to have a knack for teaching this stuff. There is still a disconnect for me as I have to use a Dualshock for the time being, so there are certain things that will just come easier for a stick player but it’s still useful stuff. Since I started watching your vids, I’ve become more of a defensive Ryu who jumps far less. My wins have come easier because of this. Bring the vids on, I’ll be watching them all.
Holy smokes this is great. I watched it several times while simantanously playing the game, and I used some of the tips and combos, even managed to pull of a ultra combo! (this is my first sf, playing like 1.5 weeks…).
This series has been excellent Mickey. Also, regardless of the YouTube comments, I think that your narration just keeps improving. The first two videos helped me a lot, and the annotated match really showed how some of the concepts can be applied, while giving a window into the thought process of a more experienced player. Can’t wait for the next one.
I need some major help on the Blanka and Guile matchups. Blanka will just spam his c.fp and both of his balls and I can’t seem to do anything other than occasionally cancel his blanka ball with a c.lp, but that does absolutely no damage and doesn’t put myself in a position to hit a combo or anything.
Guiles just keep spamming their c.fk, and then they’ll do their spinning kick right after in case I do absolutely ANYTHING. Guile’s recovery from his hados (or whatever you call them) is way too quick to jump over them and hit him – even if I could, it seems like it’s not worth the risk since it’s such a small timeframe. I have no idea what to do against him.
I’ve heard that I can get a sweep in between his sweep kicks, but it seems like the time window is so small that it’s not worth it. Every time I do it too early or late, his 2nd sweep hits me.
Shoryuken guile in between his sweeps. If you can’t do that everytime you need to practice until you can, you can also super or ultra in between sweeps. Also it’s pretty easy to tatsu through his sonic booms and hit him.
Very slick, man. I really dug where you cut in fights you’ve had with real opponents. I’d watch a whole video of that stuff. I’d really like to see you show your hands when you do the SRK>FADC>ULTRA. I know you do this on an arcade stick and that’s why I’m kinda curious as to how fast of hands it really takes. An odd request, I know.
I want a stick pretty badly, but the prices are outrageous for the decent ones right now. Stuck using the DS3 and on top of that, I just can’t use the d pad anymore. I’m stuck with analog, so that means the Ultra combo is out for me, as dashing after an FA is next to impossible to nail down. Great tut, just wish I could apply half the stuff.
Nice stuff man, video quality went through the roof. The capture card was an excellent idea. Can’t wait to see more annotated match videos, that seems like a really good way to breakdown matchups. Maybe we could see some annotated matches vs 1 specific character at a time, since everyone probably has at least one matchup that gives them fits. For me, anyone with a partially good Dic gets a free win. Keep up the good work.
Great videos Mickey! They really helped me level up into an intermediate player so that I can beat some players I had previously considered impossible to beat in SoCal.
Any tips on doing a walk-up Cr. Mk xx Hadoken without triggering the Shoryuken on accident?
It’s not that bad once you get use to it but it’s def harder doing on the regular controller, it’s def easier on a fight pad. Well it’s a process, you gotta start implementing those things that u see in the videos little by little until you master them and then you have the finish product
That’s a good idea, you recording matches with certain matches that a lot of ryu players have difficulty with and breaking it down. Plus the quality of the video was excellent
