Ryu Tutorial Video

I think c.mp xx hurricane also works in that situation.

The c.mp works however it doesn’t make the opponent stand like the c.hp does. The hurricane unfortunately whiffs over people who crouch…basically the c.hp is needed to ensure that they are standing so the hurricane will hit

Right, I thought we were just talking about empty jump/throw set up where the opponent would be standing for sure (they think the jumping attack is coming or standing to break a throw).

ffs, if i had known this earlier, i wouldnt have wasted 30 minutes in trianing mode last night trying to pull off the combo lol. i thought my fingers were slow and not cancelling the lp fast enough into the DP.

i can see how starting off combos with cr. LK is better, maybe like after you do a crossup attack which a decent enemy will probably block, afterwards, you can alternate between throwing or doing lk lp hp string.

these helped me a lot over night.
ive watched them a lot and practiced them when i get the chance as i do not own the fame.
i go to my friends house to play on his ps3.

I’d appreciate the part 3 sooner than later. The capture card is nice, but I think your setup from the first two videos is adequate to show what’s going on. Good work! (got negrepped last time I posted a complement in this thread, let’s see what this one does :rolleyes:)

Awesome video man :slight_smile:

Aright guys, haven’t made part 4 yet, but I chose to do a bit of a spin off from the original tutorials that I’ve been doing. I’m beginning to do what I’m beginning to call “annotated matches.” If anyone’s played chess competitively, annotated matches are where you go over a set of games/matches and you try to figure out what both players were thinking at the time. By going through such thorough analyzation, you begin to get into your own head, and start to see how you think in certain situations. More importantly, you begin to understand what to do in the future to do better in future matches.

I began recording myself doing ranked battles, and I ran into a Viper player who played me 2 in a row. I figured we’d call it a best of 3 match and therefore decided to use these matches. I’ll admit to you that these are nowhere near my best level. I tend to take online matches rather lightly, and don’t play as on point as I normally do. Nonetheless, I still decided to go over our match and decipher exactly what his problems where, and how I capitalized on them…thus “Annotated Matches episode 1.”

So wet your appetites on something a bit different…Annotated Matches:

The annotated battles are a pretty cool idea.
Good stuff again.

nice vid. Like how u pointed out abt the opponent’s weak ground game. Would love to see u do another similar video but with a better opponent or even better, someone winning u. I think it would be great to have a perspective from the losing side and thinking through how u shld have played to win instead. Dun lose on purpose though. xD

WOW nice vids man. Really like the annotated video idea. I wish our balrog section had these :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks to you I’m making ryu my backup fighter.

Hi, this is my first post in SRK, the tutorials are really helpful, thanks very much for the hard work!

when i was practising on the BnB combos, i found c.lk c.lp shoryuken very hard to do, in fact, i can do c.lk -> c.lp, or c.lp -> shoryuken with the shortcut input (:df::lp::df::hp:), but i just cannot link them together. the shortcut input does not seem to work when a c.lk is added at the front.

wat i did was :d::lk::df::lp::df::hp: …the shoryuken just wouldnt come out:annoy:
I tried the input history, it showed
:d::lk:
:d:
:df::lp:
:d:
:df::hp:

which was the input i intended to do… but still… there was no shoryuken after c.lp:lame:

Is shortcut input disabled in some situations or am i doing anything wrong?

lastly, a little request for the tutorial videos, would you mind sharing some tips in combo inputting or how to practise a combo? those would help heaps, thank you!

I assume you mean “cancels”, please check the wiki so we can all use the same names for the same game mechanics and not cause unnecessary confusion.

low punches and kicks can cancel each other’s animation (sort of like how a special move cancels a normal, or super cancels a special). If you have a turbo controller you can test this out easily. If you cancel normals with each other, you can’t cancel those normals into a special.

If you link the normals, you can freely cancel into the special. Again, check the wiki for definitions and read up, there’s plenty of good info on here. An exa,ple from the videos is c.lk, cl.lp, c.hp xx tatsu

In your case, I think you have enough frame advantage that you can even link the last shoryuken (the lp is +5 on hit, and the srk hits on the 3rd frame, or 4th if i’m reading the data incorrectly). You just have to delay the srk slightly. Do not mash out the motion, and do it correctly - otherwise, just practice.

for ryu’s lk lp srk combo, the lk lp part is a ‘chain’ (cancel lk into lp). chain combos cannot be cancelled into special moves, like the SRK, which is what you had trouble with (and me too, for a couple hours haha).

the lp SRK part is a ‘link’; the LP gives you +5 frame advantage on hit, and the SRK comes out in 3 frames. so basically, you have a 2 frame window to execute the SRK so it connects wihle the opponent is still under the LP’s hit stun.

also fyi, i think there is no LK LP link, it is only cancel. iIRC, frame data says that LK gives only +1 advantage on hit, and LP comes out in 3 frames, so LK LP link is impossible, it has to be a LK LP cancel.

Hey man good vids, i knew most of it but learned a few new things too.

Awesome stuff, I’d love to play you just for your opinions one what you can exploit in my game

Great idea about the annotated games.

If you do more I would like to request vids with you against Blanka and Balrog. I have the most trouble with rog.

Capture card, capture card, CaPTuRE CARd, CAPTURE CARD!!!

I finally got that capture card fella’s. But with it, my jab button is all jacked up :frowning: All in all, part 3, out hopefully TOMORROW, in full direct feed goodness! Thank you for your comments on the annotated matches…I’ve recently actually realized how I can slow motion videos, so my next video should be a lot shorter and more “to the point” as well as a bit more deep.

Anyways, to sum up the post: I got a capture card. Part 3 coming out tomorrow (friday). Annotated matches will be done once a week and will be better due to “slow motion for ya” /ja rule.

I kinda wish your videos were longer, not shorter. I’m learning some good stuff. Nice to hear about the capture card as well.

Oh by that I was talking about the annotated matches…instead of having to watch the 6 minutes worth of matches and hearing me try to explain whats going on…now I can slow down video and instead do something like…play first round, slow down first round, voice over what I was thinking…repeat with 2nd round.

I just don’t want to give off the whole “To long did not watch” feel to the vids thats all…good to know there are people out there that want longer vids though!
