mickey, I really appreciate your breaking down of the playfield into different zones! I was always unsure myself which of ryu’s AAs besides srk to use, and at what ranges. Btw you have 2 ryu tutorial #4s on your youtube acct, not sure if the second video is supposed to be something different. Thanks for the videos though!
Awesome Mickey! When you get done with all these videos it will be a pretty definitive guide on how to play Ryu. One question. I noticed on the bottom of your screen it said edmasterb is online. Is that Edma? And if so how do you do against his Ken?
This tutorial is excellent. Probably the best definition of footsies/ground game that I’ve seen on video. Awesome stuff, keep them coming!
Thank you all for your compliments! I hope they help people, because if anything they help me a lot too. It’s one thing to know and understand this information, but if I can share it with others in a clear concise way, I know that I TRULY understand the concepts!
Yep that is Edma himself. As far as his Ken…He gets me more then I get him, I haven’t played him in awhile…All in all he normally gets me a lot more then I get him…like in a set of 10 games I’ll win about 3 or 4 and he’ll get 6 or 7.
He’s a good player for sure, but I wouldn’t count myself out if I were to play him in real life…No offense to Ed or anything, I’m sure he would feel the same…online play is just so different ya know?
Mickey D brings the gold once again!
Pay attention kids take notes!
Really cool and easy to understand.
I hope i’ll get as good as you are Mickey D.
No matter how long it takes
This video is full of win. Might be the best tutorial vid in the whole SF4 subforum. : )
Ryu is freakin awesome. I found the spacing and zoning video really interesting!! Definately improved my game. I won about 28 matches last night, lost 3. i went from 1200 points to 2000! woot, haha
Great video again, mickey. VERY professional. And insightful. How about sharing your blog research on combos with the SRK board- there’s some great info there that people’ll want to know!
One other thing- I noticed you don’t include many MP links in your combos- are they just a risky waste of energy? Should I concentrate on lp-hp instead? I know the stand-up benefit of the c.hp, but if you whiff the link… Oy! Punishment! Mp just feels a bit safer (into hado) but maybe I’m being dumb…
cHP does more damage and stun, stands opponent up on hit as well. This will allow you to start a block string on a crouched opponent and then finish with a Tatsu. Using cMP here will make the Tatsu whiff
cr. mp has slightly more reach though so it’s useful occasionally if you are out of cr. hp range. cr. mk can be used too but mp is easier.
video 4 is great…ive been having a lot of problems controlling air (i’m awful at mid-air attacks…always eat a HK because i attack too late) so the quick HP after jumping should help me a lot, as should using s.HK and c.HP at the appropriate ranges. i love (and am pretty decent at) light srk’s as anti-air because they’re pretty effective and go easily into super/ultra but having the same move every time gets stale and makes me seem predictable, which is no good. would will be nice to have additional AA moves in my skill set.
Nice videos.
Thanks guys. I knew all the benefits of c.hp, but I think I’ll now try to switch to c.lk c.lp c.hp hk tk. I was working towards this anwsy with the extra mp in the middle, but on reflection it’s too risky as a bnb.
The c.mp cancel into the hadouken is most useful for the crossup when you know you’re not close enough to land the c.HP.
You can instead compensate with c.mp which has longer reach and finish with the hadouken.
Beautiful string on a cross up, even if it blocks.
