From what I’ve seen, Haggar is great on point with the right mindset. Haggar should be out there to get a couple big combos and build meter. I can transition to my second guy (Wolverine) after either a Lariat, Giant Haggar Press, Berserker Barrage X OR Pipe, launch air M H d.H, Giant Haggar Press, Berserker Barrage X. You can actually use Wolverine’s Berserker Slash assist to knock your opponent right into you for a huge combo!
Haggar can hold his own on point and is a great character to start building your meter.
Question: I’m thinking about switching out Arthur for Dante as my Anchor. I can use Dante’s Weasel Shot to give Haggar a little cover as well as use it for crossup combos with Wolverine. I’m just afraid that Dante might not be able to assist these two as well as Arthur can. Dante would add a huge weapon to my team but I might lose a lot on the defensive side. What do you guys think?
I need some help with my 3rd. I’ve got Haggar and Taskmaster. I just fell in love with Haggar’s style. Taskmaster I did before the game came out and I recently went to a tournament and saw that Task is gonna become one of those staple characters. However my last character Wesker hasn’t done much. His assists don’t mesh well with the team and I found him not contributing. Haggar would either deal nice damage or get hurt badly, and Taskmaster would have to bail him out. Wesker on the other hand almost always did nothing. It sucks though because Wesker is my favorite character of the game, but I feel the need to switch him out. Who should I go with?
P.S. I am anti Storm and Sent. So… Yeah… No Sent… I know he’s gdlk.
Wesker’s Samurai Edge assist can actually work great w/ Haggar’s Air pipe to create some close to unblockable setups since you have overhead/low assist @ the same time. You need to time it right but if you do, you can get a nice short big damage combo.
As far as your 3rd character if you don’t choose Wesker, Chris and Task can provide great zoning together, but you might not want to run Haggar @ point since his assist would be of greater value to the team.
How about Spidey w/ web ball assist? Hsien-Ko and gong assist could be great for both Task and Haggar, perhaps?
So far, Wesker’s Samurai Edge is incredible for continuing Haggar’s combos and setting up for damaging resets. I use Skrull on point, but if I do switch out for Haggar, his Tenderizer assist is a great pressure tool in the corner. Then, it’s just a matter of respecting the pipe.
Depends on your playstyle, but Haggar and Taskmaster sound more like a rushdown-oriented team. I think you just need a good assist character, since Haggar serves as a good battery and Taskmaster does decent damage with his supers. I would say go with Doom (Hidden Missile), or something like that, to keep the enemy pressured and use your point character to rush their shit down.
Add me to the Chris/Haggar/Taskmaster list. Been wanting to use Haggar and Taskmaster since before they came out. My Chris is iffy, but I think that’s just because I’m not good with him yet. Oh, I also use them in the Taskmaster/Chris/Haggar order. Just because Haggar is at the end doesn’t mean I don’t like him, his assist is just too good of a “GTFO Button” vs rushdown. Haggar lvl 3 XFC sure doesn’t hurt, either.
I’ve been testing out Wesker, Deadpool, Hulk, and Captain America as assist options (besides the obvious sent. force projectiles). Wesker and Deadpool for OTG support can lead to some nasty resets, Cap and Hulk have good projectile support. Hulk’s Gamma Wave OTG’s in the corner, and leads to some nasty DHC’s. I’ve gotten relaunch into OTG Wave, then Rapid Punch super DHC to Gamma Crush for stupid amounts of damage. I haven’t tested it, but I think you can get a 3rd launch from OTG Wave in the corner straight into Haggar Press, then DHC into Gamma Crush.
For chris just remember his special normals. Back + H is his flamethrower I think. you can anti air with it at the right range and it does ABSURD chip. Also keep in mind what his bullets lose out to. hope that helps. I think Haggar would do best in this team as second. Chris can start and Haggar can jump in, Chris can shoot forward, Tasky with his Aim Master H and Haggar is set to get in and lay DAT PIPE
I run Haggar with Spencer and Thor. Haggar is on point most of the time since he does well against your average homogenized rushdown team; you don’t need help going after them if every member on their team is coming right to you. He also does good against runaway Ryu/Dante/Spiderman etc (characters/teams not quite equip for zoning). Thor’s Mighty Spark helps a bit against legit keepaway teams if you’re always a step ahead when you call him out. Spencer’s Slant Shot keeps them from going too far away and I’m sure they’re some combos I can set up with it. Need to experiment with it more.
Chris (GunFire)/Haggar (Double Lariat)/Random
I like Chris and Haggar Together they seem to bind well.
Just need to find that Magical third to complete it all.
I ran Taskmaster, Haggar, Sentinel for a while, but now I’ve switched Haggar and Task around. Whenever I land a pipe, lariat or any launcher, I go for the air tag, and Taskmaster is amazing at finishing combos.
Something as simple as:
Pipe, (H), launcher, j.H, headbutt, Tag
deals roughly 400k in very few hits, so Tasky’s BnB into Legion Arrow adds another 400k to that.
Then I chip them to death with Taskmaster + Lariat pressure if they’re still alive, and tag Haggar back in. It feels quite satisfying
I kinda hate Sentinel, but I don’t know who to replace him with. Taskmaster’s combos really don’t benefit much from a good DHC, so all I need is a good assist, and maybe someone to deal with Haggar’s bad matchups. I also tend to have more than enough meters (as do most teams with Haggar I presume…) Suggestions?
Been trying to come up with a team based around Haggar. I originally started with Haggar/Skrull/Sentinel and that worked pretty well, since Haggar and Skrull help each other well with their assists, have good DHC options and Sent offers himself and a great assist for getting in.
But I want to drop Sentinel. The question is who? I don’t mind dropping Skrull or keeping him if need be. Almost thinking Haggar/???/Skrull might be good as Skrull can close the gap on his own with airdash, :d:+:h: and Meteor Smash so if he’s left last, he can work on his own.
Been looking at Hulk. Haggar Press DHC Gamma Crush does impressive damage. Hulk’s normals are also quite nice and Gamma Charge feels better than it did in any previous Vs. game. However, picking him leaves me with no way for Haggar (or even himself) to get in.
Based on the recent posts, it sounds like Chris, Dorm or Taskmaster would be a good choice. How would any of these work with Skrull as well?
I don’t think you understand just how GOOD Hulk is in mvc3. Gamma Wave all day AND super armor with a j.:s: that hits on both sides of his body and can crossup and he can anti-air command grab anybody coming in after a snap-back or KO. A defensive Hulk spamming gamma wave with a strong AA assist protecting him from jump ins is beastly. Hulk doesn’t have to move in and if phoenix tries to sj. tk shot or storm tries to hailstorm him… free gamma crush ftw due to a beastly 73 frames of invincibility.
tl;dr–run hulk as secondary with haggar on point like you have been for gigantic dhc/AE damage and chose gamma wave as his assist and just wavedash/pipe your way in behind it. Hell… I might start trying this with like a Modok, haggar, hulk team except that team would get destroyed by zero.
Someone who could put that meter to use. Ryu can obliterate assists. Crimson Viper would definetly take advantage of all that meter with her Ex moves. Phoenix can as well. But that would be forcing you to rely too much on Haggar and Taskmaster. Anyone with a timer super should do as well. Have them come in. Use a meter and switch’em out. Dante with his guitar assist would be nice, and he has a teleport. same with Arthur going kings armor and rocking daggers or fire bottle. Hsein-Ko can go dark force maybe use her gong assist. Morrgan would be good too. Zero has a timer special and can mix up the pace of the match.
Just poppin’ my head in to say I’m lovin’ all of the Chris and Task love in this topic. When I proposed Chris/Haggar/Taskmaster on the first page, I knew it was a good team (I built it to fuck up Sentinel players), but I had no idea it would catch on.
Anyhoo, I’m actually preferring Haggar on point now. He requires ZERO meter to function and he eats every rushdown character not named Magneto (He can sit back and Disruptor your ass) alive thanks to Dat Pipe. Seriously, the pipe beats out fucking everything. Of course, things can get shitty when the opposing player sticks a zoner on point, but, that’s what assists (and finding an opportunity to swap for Chris) are for.
So, yeah, Haggar / Chris / Taskmaster FTW. Haggar beats every point char who can’t play keepaway to death, Chris can outzone every keepaway char in the game aside from Arthur, and Taskmaster has the tools to deal with Arthur. Team Swaggar knows no limits.
EDIT: The only downside? You can’t really burn meter like other teams. Of course, that leaves with a lot of meter with which to use on snapbacks and other shenanigans.
EDIT 2: Also, if not being able to burn meter gets you down, I’m a fan of Haggar/Dormammu/Doom as well. Haggar sticks with the Lariat, Dorm takes Purification as his assist, and Doom goes Plasma Beam.
Funny thing is, before I got the game, I thought Viper looked decent and fun. Then I forgot about that and never really tried her. Thanks for the reminder.
I’ve always liked Arthur as well, but damn he’s actually really hard to play well. I could easily DHC (or not? considering Haggar and Taskmaster would always switch around the top two spots) into his gold armor though, then tag him out for some sweet Flame Bottles. They lockdown long enough to be useful for both Haggar and Taskmaster I think. Does Haggar have a good combo to put on the hurt with an OTG assist?
And does Morrigan have a good assist if you’re not going to use the meter building one?
Thanks.
Pwere: for an OTG Haggar combo, you can do s. s. :s: j. j. j. :h: :qcf: :s: to throw them on the ground.
For my team, I use Arthur, Haggar, Sentinel. Use Arthur’s javelins, jump up and throw knifes on the way down, and use his crossbow for jump ins to keep them away. Combine this with Sent drones for amazing keepaway. Haggar’s lariat Assist is amazing when people get in close on Arthur cause this is Arthur’s weak spot.
When Arthur dies you still have the Haggar and Sentinel combo to roll under them and cross them up with the drones.
When Haggar dies you can level 5 x-factor with Sentinel and then it’s game over.
