I’ve been using him as an assists/anchor for Chris/Deadpool and on point with Deadpool/Sentinel. I use Deadpool’s Quick Work assist when Haggar is on point along with the obvious Sentinel drones. Quick work makes for unblockables with the pipe.
I have been using Haggar(DL)/Storm(WW)/and switching my 3rd. Most recently my third has been Wolverine(BB). With Haggar on point both WW and BB right before a H VA safely makes room for Haggar to go forward with the move and hit with the last upward swing so you can still go into the launcher (mid screen to corner only). WW helps with projectile characters and BB helps get people off you. Also I like differences in speed and mobility between the characters. People get in the mode where they see how easy it is to zone out Haggar, but when you bring in a rush down Wolverine it really switches the tempo of the match and gets in there head a little bit.
I just want a team where is Haggar is the point man, so I am still keeping my mind open about my other 2 characters/assists, but I like this combo atm. As I am still new to the none mashing style of playing these games and I have a lot to learn.
Yesterday I started using Haggar (steel pipe), Taskmaster (Vertical Arrows), and Wesker (Samurai Edge). This team has been working wonders for me. For one, Haggar himself is a powerhouse. Dude’s pipe gets people scared. I played this dude who’s player record is like 400+ wins and only 20 losses. I beat him once and he left but sent a msg saying he went to play with a friend but that my Haggar fucked him up. Haha.
Anyways, in corner and offensive pressure situations, perfectly timing wesker’s assist with a jumping pipe creates a beautiful unblockable (or even if not timed right, still creates a very tough blocking assignment for the other player), which leads me to M > S, to air combo and if no meter, his air qcf S move, or if I have a bar, Haggar Press. That’s a free 450-550k damage combo off of one tricky but easy to pull tactic.
Also, Taskmaster is one of my better characters. You rarely ever see him online and the people who use him haven’t taken the time to learn him like me. DHC into his arrows is completely safe so it’s great to have him as my second character. And his vertical arrows catches people off guard a lot (he shoots them up, the disappear and a second later come down spread out from each other), although I’m sure at sure at top level won’t work as well. Doing an almost full screen assist with Taskmaster then rushing in with a pipe has gotten me a lot of damage lately.
The team I’ve been working with is Haggar*(lariat)/Morrigan(harmonizer)/Phoenix(shot)*, and it has some good high-level synergy. Haggar really doesn’t need meter to do a lot of damage, building it up for Dark Phoenix in short order. If you don’t want to rely on DP, Morrigan can also eat up the meter with her impressive array of hypers.
I’m giving some consideration to the assists on this team. Morrigan’s harmonizer obviously helps on any Phoenix team, and I think Phoenix shot is a perfect way to protect Haggar’s ground roll. I defaulted to lariat on Haggar, but I can’t really find much synergy with Phoenix, and I’m still too new with Morrigan to recognize where it could fit in her strategy.
After playing around for a week with Team Swaggar, I’ve got to say that is is an unbelievably awesome team. Haggar on point eats every rushdown character on point alive aside from Magneto and he’s an absolutely sick assist for Chris and Taskmaster. Chris with Haggar’s Lariat to stop rushdown and Taskmaster’s anti-air arrows allows Chris to out-zone everyone except Arthur. Taskmaster is IMO the best character not named Phoenix to have as your final character since he’s amazingly versatile. He can out-zone most other characters and against those he can’t out-zone he can get in fairly easily since his b. C goes through projectiles and Spidey Swing can get be used as a ghetto air-dash. Also, every character on the team has over 1000000 health.
This team seriously counters pretty much every team I’ve seen played in a tourney so far. Only team I could imagine posing serious problems would be something like Magneto/Arthur/Phoenix.
EDIT: Team Swaggar is Haggar (Lariat) / Chris (Gun Fire) / Taskmaster (Aim Master H).
I’ve been using Wesker (Samurai Edge) and Sent (Sent Force) with Haggar. Sent drones are nice cover for moving in, Wesker’s low shot mindfucks people who are blocking high for the pipe.
Lariat is also great for command flying over people with Sent. They get crossed up when they aren’t even on the screen. Add a Sent combo and it’s all over but the ragequitting.
Arthur/Super-Skrull/Haggar
Team ASH. They’ve been working out well for me, except when I play Sentinel’s online with Level 3 X-Factor, but who can deal with that anyway?
I haven’t tested this, yet, but was thinking you guys could give your opinions:
I’ve been thinking about running Zero (Hidangeki – Point) / Haggar (Lariat – 1st Assist – 2nd in) / Captain (Shield Slash – 2nd Assist – Anchor). I thought this would be a good idea, because:
Lariat can protect Zero in the corner, as well as it can be used to keep opponents in the air after a H Sentsuizan re-launcher for a longer combo. Captian’s Shield Slash can be used to get behind people trying to turtle Zero’s rush-down. Once Zero loses some life, you can Sougenmu (Shadow Clone) and then pull Haggar in. Double Hidangeki’s from Zero would make a great assist for getting Haggar in position, and Captain would be used for the same purpose as with Zero.
The only thing I am doubting is Captain for the 3rd because Zero can H Hienkyaku behind opponents as it is, so Shield Slash might not be as useful for him as for Haggar.
What do you guys think? Is there a better 3rd choice? Also, I refuse to play Sentinel. Ever.
Running Wesker (Sam Edge) /Trish (Peekaboo)/ Dante (Jam Session) but been messing around with Haggar in training after watchign some good tourney vids of him and thinking of switching out Dante for Haggar, which assist would mesh well with Wesker and Trish? Lariat? Pipe?
Put Spencer on your team so you can do shit like this

While I would generally agree with this comment, I would have to say for many point characters, Haggar’s assist becomes the exception to the rule. Lariat assist FORCES some match ups to be played differently. This is fact. Unimpeded corner rushdown is impossible because of advancing guard and the threat of counter lariat or assist lariat, which both combo into incredible damage regardless of your two other characters.
For example, Dormammu. You can have the best zoning in the game, but it is possible that there will be a time that someone will get in. If the guy is competent he is gonna get u in the corner with a combo. What do u do at that point if he’s pressuring you with mixup and assists? What if he is dash cancelling your advancing guard attempts? You really have no answer here except maybe the lucky flame carpet. But with HAggar, your opponent is forced to respect the lariat, (unless he’s really short like amaterasu).
Its not about being reliant on something. Its about how having the ability threatens your opponent in a way that he has to play differently. Because if he doesn’t, haggar does what he does best, and that is bring quick damage as an assist or point. I’m not saying he isn’t good at point. HE probably is too since he doesn’t need meter (but he sure doesn’t build it the way some other characters do, which is typically what battery characters do), but having a character with a get out of jail card for free as an assist is a very viable playstyle.
I haven’t read through this entire thread, but can anyone tell me if Haggar’s other assists are any good? I’ve only ever used Double Lariat to play bodyguard for Arthur (I also have Super-Skrull and Tenderizer to keep the skies clear). Do you think my team could benefit from another Haggar assist or did I make the right choice?
Seems like people only pick Haggar to spam his assist is he the new Tron?
I use Haggar on point. With pipe assist to ground bounce after an OTG then continue combo
I think you made the right choice. you have all the utility u need wiht that team and with haggar in, u can use tenderizer for OTG (right?) to continue combos anyway.
Tron doesn’t have deadly offensive mixup, almost airtight blockstrings and one of the best tools for landing hits while applying pressure in the game(DAT PIPE). Haggar might be picked by most people for his lariat but he is definitely a very strong character in his own right, he just cant do much work without an assist, that’s really his only weak point.
Currently using Haggar(lariat)/Morrigan(meter builder)/Deadpool(trigger happy) or
Hsien-Ko(spinning ball n chain of death)/Haggar(lariat)/Deadpool(katanarama)
Team 1 I like starting Haggar first usually just due to him being able to do a lot of damage without meter. Send out Morrigan or Deadpool to use it all afterwards. Morrigan has some good anti-super armor tools too if anyone is unaware. Haggar and Morrigan for some reason have been making a few Sentinel players ragequit… I don’t get it, they’re using SENTINEL. Anyway…
Team 2 I let Hsien-Ko fight a bit then use her armor ultra. Send Haggar in. Use Hsien-Ko assist constantly. Haggar being always able to move forward is a scary thing. Just gotta be mindful of the damage Hsien-Ko takes, but I mean it interrupts everything. Deadpool’s just there if it all goes wrong.
I have yet to try this out but I would think it timed right Lariat can be used to extend Wesker’s combo from the low Samurai Edge.
Ive been wrecking face with Haggar. Team switches around a lot but one of my strongest teams is Haggar (Lariat), Dog (cold star), and Dormamu (Black Hole). The pressure this team puts out is ridiculous. In the corner you can trap with cold star and start pounding face with easy high damage combos . Black hole covers defense a bit better than cold star by blocking off a larger area when people start jumping in.
I haven’t had trouble being zoned out, super jumps usual get me in their face or blocked qcf h gets me there with good recovery.
I glad this character has a some good tools to make him solid and with the right assists he’s really devastating.
This is actually the same team I’ve been running with Haggar. Chris gunfire, Task parabolic shots, Haggar lariat. Working pretty well so far.
I’m really loving Haggar, but I think it’s true that he shouldn’t be a main point character. Unfortunately, my other favorite character is Doom, who also is better at being a second or third placed character. I really need to find my main guy soon. x)
