I’ll have to remember that. She’s a bit slow on the startup. But I can see some wake up games with that after a combo that grounds’em.
I don’t really see his other assists coming into play except for very specific setups. Lariat assist is damn well HAGGARLIKE.
Edit: was messing with HAGGAR’s assists. Axe just blows them away. No knockdown. Ryu can tack on a shinku hadoken. So beam teamers can get in a free meter attack. Pipe bounces them off the ground, easy air combo setup though I wonder if it maintains it’s priority and +9 on block.
I’ve been thinking of ways of how to use him, because he looks like fun, easy combos, big damage, uses a pipe, and he’s a HCB grappler, which is my favorite kind of grappler. My main team is: Skrull, Tasky, Akuma. All of them have great ways of getting in, two of them have teleports and projectile supers, Skrull has a HCB grab for shenanigans, Tasky and Akuma make amazing Assists.
But I was thinking of a team called: Team Amazing Assist. In that all of their Assists are really good, and are hard to punish. So I’m thinking of Sent, Haggar (lariat Assist), and I can’t think of a third. I was thinking of either Doom or Akuma.
Personally I use; Spence(Assist hardly matters), Hagger(Lariet), Sent(drones)
Each can hold there own on the floor when its there turn, but spence is th emoney maker
Hagger offers great help to get ppl off of either of my guys.
Hagger also serves as a great stand alone fighter, with alittle help from the drones to get in sometimes, since he has no tricks for covering ground quick (bad wave dash IMO). I wish Hagger had a coward crouch to dash, like my man Jimmy.
I’ve been running X23 / Haggar / Sentinel. Haggar’s assist is good for keeping people off of X, but I mainly have Sent to back Haggar up. Sentinel Force is an amazing assist, and if you sweep you can just roll under everything with Sent Force covering you.
Great thread, I feel like mine is going to be deadpool, haggar, sentinel. I stilll need to tinker around them but if u guys have any ideas that would be spectacular. Oh and on the side not for me to close in using haggar I go : H (puts him in knockdown state) then roll in, jump then pipe mid air. I think it’s a great way to start a combo.
i’d say haggar is more of an assist, his pipe assist is so good, it’s crazy. I just him with magneto and chris but i’m not doing too well with chris its hard to do the air magnum on the controller for me so i might change him. I use magnetos grab assist and chris gun fire.
I’ve been using Dormammu with Haggar. Haggar’s assists are probably better for Dormammu than the other way around, but…eh.
Also, a LOT of people here are mentioning Sentinel as a good combo with Haggar. It seems to add credence to the news I’m hearing from a lot of people that Sentinel is overpowered. I haven’t been able to play the game nearly as much as I’d like to…is he really as OP as people say?
Mostly it’s people learning how to deal with his hyper armor, and his hyper armor is really really gay coupled with an Xfactored sentinel, people are learning to deal with him alone but he’s just a great assist/DHC character so he kinda works in any team. It was mostly the shock of people learning that you pretty much have to save your X-factor to stop sent from chipping you to death.
I’m thinking of this, because I saw (part) of the Spooky stream with Noel: Sent, Doom (missile assist), and Haggar (lariat) with either Sent or Haggar on point. Doom would be used mostly for assist. Now I gotta’ learn Doom.
Sentinel isnt anywhere near as strong as people think he is, my theory is as follows:
Remember when ssf4 came out, and all the noobs thought thawk was super broken?
Remember when sf4 came out and all the noobs tthought geif was broken?
Its the same thing here, people think sent is broken because hes EASY TO LEARN. I’m using sent, and I gotta admit, I think wweve seen most of his tricks, hes got the spit cancel, the hyper armor stuff, a kara-throw (but its kinda ass) and is easily one of the scariest characters in the game for lvl3 xfactor, but ya know what, I dont know that we’ll find much else with him. Maybe some neat unfly cancel tricks, but that about it. and lvl3 xfactoring your last character? its popular now, but as the game matures, I can see it becoming a less common choice. This is all amplified by the fact that people havent had time to learn how to counter him yet. He gets destroyed by good teleport or rushdown play, and lots of characters can outzone him easily as long as he doesnt have meter to toss around.
Nah sent is going to be good, Easy big damage combos and great screen control with drones and rocket punches, The execution bar is so low on most of his shit that I’m doing a lot of his stuff on pad ( not starting a flame war but I can not play on pad period ). If people are finding this much shit with him this early its only going to keep going.
He’s always going to be good because of his DHC/Assists. I think his character alone is getting pretty exposed though. Everyone seeming to get their anti sentinel strategy squared away first.
I use Thor’s Mighty spark to start combos and close in, and Spencer’s Slant Claw reels people in who try to air dash toward him. Mighty smash is also a nice way to start combos.
Haggar is way too useful as an assist to use him as point. Regardless of how great you are with him, or how much you enjoy him, he makes SO many characters SO much better. Losing Haggar will make your other two characters significantly weaker, which generally shouldn’t be the case when a point character is lost.
Ok, so I’m spreading love of my team to the Arthur, Hagger, and Spencer Boards.
Team with Hagger on point:
Arthur assist: Fire bottle
Sets up for M hoodlum launcher if its blocked, or a pipe bounce/H violent axe if it connects
Spencer: Wire grapple
Pulls char. in for a beat down, hagger style. You can time a pull into a double lariat and cancel into an abortion punch, or any combo, really.
Generally speaking, if you suck so hard that you can’t use your other two characters without haggars assist, or so hard that putting a character on point is essentially sacrificing him, then you’ve probably already lost to any competitive player.
Whats more, Assist characters (even haggar) take ALOT more damage and the damage they take is unscaled, if you are that reliant on haggars assist a decent opponent will take it away from you before haggar even enters play.
I’ve been thinking about Haggar(lariat)/Chris(gunfire)/Dormamu(???). Right now the 2 characters I feel most comfortable with are Haggar and Chris and they happen to have good synergy with DHC’s and covering each others weaknesses. Both are pretty amazing batteries and I figure I need a character to use that meter with.
What assists should I be using for Dormamu and Chris? I haven’t really played with Dormamu much and depending on what Dormamu’s assist is, I may not need the gunfire assist.
Messing around with Chris(Gunfire)/Arthur(Fire Bottle)/Haggar(Lariat), Team Manly, at the moment. Chris & Arthur cover each other’s zoning weaknesses (Chris’s Magnum vs Beams, Arthur’s endless barrage vs anyone else’s attempts at that), and Haggar’s Lariat combined with Chris’s L.Grenade is a great get-off-me tool, allowing you to push them back to full-screen again if they managed to get in.
But it’s early days yet, and I can’t say I have much of an idea what I’m doing half the time, heh. I’ll just have to wait and see if this particular team setup lasts much longer.
