Rose Strategies and Match-ups

I’ll try to keep those in my mind if I ever even find an Abel player

see thats the problem though i do that stuff already against sagat. the problem with that is reflect doesnt work. ill time it right but sagat just cancels it with another or worse yet if its a low reflect and im following after will tiger knee over it. jumping works but without the forward movement im stuck in the air letting them close in on me towards the corner. apparently sagat has a sweet spot where hes right out side my range for mediums and at a perfect range to counter if i try my roundhouses. once punished they cycle can start back over.

Ok so I played against a Sagat player tonight. My main trouble was just him trading with me a lot on jump in attempts and his jumping elbow. Was pretty darn annoying but other than that I could get around the FB spam. So either my timing was bad for stuffing his jumping elbow or it’s a sketchy attack. Alot of the time it depended on his angle and when he even pressed the button for me to hit him effectively.

I was able to pressure decently but still had trouble with him just throwing out Uppercuts to keep me honest. Cause even though I could punish him he could usually make up for it if I messed up even once. I could defeat his particular style but when he wanted to turtle up that made it very aggravating cause then I basically have to walk him down or try to deflect his FB’s to get life advantage and keep it.

So other than FB’s, s.FK, and his jumping elbow attack; what else should be looked out for when fighting him? (also his Tiger Knee/Tiger Uppercut but those are always known)

I have little to say about Sagat, since the ones I’ve played so far didn’t seem very good. I tried to reflect tiger shots early on, but realized I was still getting hit by a shot even after I reflected. Instead I resorted to using weak reflect to eat them all up until I had full bar, then start unloading to start applying pressure, close distance, or bait jumps, etc. When they catch on to this (sometimes, they don’t), I would merely try to slide under highs and time my jumps with lows or eat them up. Tried to bait out DPs and standing round houses by spacing jumping fierce, but didn’t always work when I was guessing wrong. Sagat’s crouching medium kick seemed to be pretty strong at mid range. I believe the move advances him forward slightly, and stuffs slide as far as I can remember. I can’t say I messed around with it too much since I spent a lot of the time trying to bait something for a KD, then mix up from there. As for the elbow, I haven’t played a Sagat who used it. They mostly use jump roundhouse on me. I’d like to play more Sagat’s, but I don’t know any, nor do there appear to be many in rank matches that are worth mentioning.

you aren’t putting any preassure on them. Rose’s slide is one of (if not her best) normal in the game. use that to set up a throw game (he seems to be the type that likes to block way too much). don’t forget rose’s AA of c.hp.

edit:

do you guys think rog > rose for free? i can’t seem to find a thing that beats his jump in and dashes.

Her slide is punishable even at max range. All it takes is someone who knows about that, and you’re done.

And I agree… Rog eats Rose for free. C-fierce his jump ins. But his dashes are safe and Rose has no way of punishing it.

if you have ultra you can stop his dashes by buffering the forst QCF, then if you see him dash do the other QCF and PPP and you punish his dash, its harder than you migth think because you have to react very quickly. Be awera that he can cancel his EX dashes into Super or Ultra if he absorbs one hit.

I absolutely cannot mess with blanka or vega!

anyone had better luck?

the only blanka’s i beat are scrub blanka’s. good blanka’s eat my face. vegas arn’t that bad to me tho. i dont know what moves to punish blanka’s whiffed balls. everytime i go for the sweep before he lands, it goes thru him and i get grabbed or have his balls put on my face again and again.

im also getting pwned by good shoto fireball spammers. staying just outside of max distance waiting for me to jump. reflect is unreliable. it takes too much time to come out and she has to have a song and dance before she actually produces the move. sliding under fireballs seems to be hit or miss as well. mostly hit. timing has to be juuust right for it to work. and its not worth it if you fubar.

Vs Blanka you just gotta bait those balls to the best of your ability abd beat them out with jumpink mk. I usually use jump back mk. Once you knock him down, you can start crossup/throw bs/throw sparks.

Throwing sparks seems to be the best method since he cant horizontal ball unless it’s ex and vertical ball takes forecer so you can jump mk/stand rh after your spark.

Vs Shotos - Rose can play the fireball game all day. Just chill as far back as you can and absorb their balls/throw eparks. Shoto matches = HELLA free meter for Rose. You can get 2 supers off easy.

My strategy.

As soon as the round starts, back dash all the way back and start throwing. Once the fireball war is started, mix up throwing with absorbing. Also mix in a few ex (meter is of NO concern in this matchup:rofl:) sparks since they’re gonna want to FA some of them to get in. Once they finally start to advance (jumping is their only option) either ex Soul Glo or c.hp into lp spark/hk drill for good pressup mixup and SRK bait.

Rose is the anti-Shoto in my opinion. Ryu and Ken have a hard time whenever I fight them.

I’ll go back and read the other newer posts and try to chime in when I’m less hungover:sweat:

It is reversal punishable but the window is pretty small. I abuse the hell out of her slide.

So whats the best defense against an Abel that is in roll range that rolls into and right into that command throw. Nothing seems to knock him out of the roll. I’m thinking that the best defense might be to either jump straight up or back or dash back, once you see the roll coming?

yup .

You can throw Abel out of the roll. Or are you saying he’s out of range for that?

No, in range meaning he pops out of the row right in your grill which leads to that nasty command throw of his. So you’re saying that if he comes out of it or is rolling close/through me, I can throw him out of it? That would be great if possible.

I put this in the other thread, but I think it bears repeating. For some reason people always wanna reversal the slide with a low. Slide followed by a s.mk will usually either counterhit them or push you back enough that you’re pretty safe… well if you space it so you get the ‘standing on ma’ scarf’ one.

so how do you punish blanka rolls? jump forward mk? I can never reach~

How do you stop vega’s wall hop into claw/ grab, I’ve tried everything short of reaching through my TV and strangling the other player

you can usually slide away, but that doesn’t help things much in the long run. For me at least, he’s the most frustrating person by far to fight with rose.

I have troubles vs Ryu’s that spam fireballs. The reflect comes out too slow to counter. Out-poking.prioritizing helps some.

Against Ryu’s that spam fireballs I just absorb them all, it’s just a matter of getting the timing down. After I get 2-3 bars I start reflecting and walking him down. I played against a Vega today and I managed to Soul Throw him if he came across the screen with his jumping attacks. Either that or I was getting extremely lucky but I think I got a decent spacing game against him.

I want to understand what gives Rose a lot of trouble against a Boxer player. His pokes are annoying and his Dashes are safe but what will give her trouble. She can poke him away and from far screen I hold a lot of the cards until he gets an ultra and has bar. But even then as long as I prefire an EX Soul Spark he can’t Ultra me. So what exactly should I be looking out for cause I have yet to run into a GOOD Boxer player. Not saying she rapes him but I just don’t understand what gives her soooo much trouble against him.
