Rose Strategies and Match-ups

yes rose does seem very limited in this game compared to others. there are moves that just are not used because they are punishable by death if you do. pretty much she is just a basic them to death char. from what ive seen. and, she really only has one decent combo for punishing. what makes her good is her ultra. i “almost” want to say its OP but, its pretty much all she has.

I don’t even think her Ultra is THAT good to begin with.

It’s main uses imo are as a punisher. To be used as an AA is like trying to Soul Throw on reaction. You need to anticipate to catch them. Too late, they’ll land safely. I believe they are safe if they empty jump too. Not sure though.

Can’t fully rely on your FA to ultra them either… Besides, that’s something universal so I don’t see it as a + for Rose.

Even as a punisher though, you have to almost respond instantly. Unless of course, they whiff a high recovery move… But who CAN’T punish those right? Plus, recovery time if blocked is huge. You die if you miss it.

I almost never use my Ultra, unless I’m almost dead and I use it as a desperation attempt. But a lot of times, my opponents end up whiffing some high recovery moves, so they just eat my Ultra.

True biz right hur.

yea its not “that” good, but i do think its the best thing shes got in her arsenal, aside from F. HK & S. HK. i totally love it tho, because ive gotten really good with catching jumping opponents and people get really mad at that specific super when i catch them 2-3 times a match for some reason.

(maybe because i scream sham-WOW! everytime)

IMHO, rose is a “basic you to death” char. down + FP is great, but with this fightpad i have, sometimes a soul ball comes out and i eat feet when i dont mean to throw it. wakeup backdash will save you a lot but do not forget the fast wakeup. you dont have to stay on the ground the entire time.

this will seriously fubar peoples crossover game if you fast recover. its there for a reason. use it!

I use the Ultra as an interrupter more than a punisher. It interrupts a lot of stuff. I use it as soon as I see another Ultra start and I usually beat it out. Chun Li’s Ultra, Bison’s Ultra, Ryu’s, Sagat’s, and I think E Honda’s (not sure about Honda).

Speaking of Honda… He gives me some problems because of the Headbutt/EX Headbutt. Can’t punish it and it beats every jump-in. EX Headbutt goes through EX fireballs.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

I haven’t tried to Reflect Blanka Balls. I try to mp it and trade.

This has also been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Haha… “reflect Blanka Balls”. That’s funny.

My anti-GEEF strat that has been working for me every time so far has been:
Backdash all the way back into the corner and start Sparking. Yes he’s gonna build some meter with lariat, but you want him to get comfortable doing this. Once he starts closing in with lariats, start sweeping him after your sparks. Run ayaw and start over. Once he get’s in close this time, he’s gonna want to ex hand, you gotta feel out your opponent and bait them the best you can so that you can get a jump in. Now you can start using your jump straight up hp safe jump/overhead game after another knockdown. If you ever have super/ultra, bait his lariat at a good range and pop his ass.

I know this sounds silly, and I did kinda skip over some step cuz Im supposed to be doing homework right now, but it DOES work. I don’t lose to GEEF players so you gotta believe me:rofl:

Also, c.hp beats lariat if he tries to do one on your wakeup or something.

Swordsman- You gotta be careful with Bison and Sagat though. If you’re up close and try that, theie ultra will still beat yours:bluu:

Good shit. Gotta try the c.hp vs lariat. A good thing that works vs Bison up close is S.MK. Shit is gold. Will stop scissors on start up. I like to spam it a couple of times in their face to make them back off with scissor kick crap.

Lol, that just sounds funny for some reason. Buy yeah, GEEF plays however you want/let him play, seriously. You have all the tools to shut him down. Also, f+hk works like a CHARM from max range. Mixup doing that or a sweep after throwing a lp spark sometimes. They’re so worried about the fireball that they eat the kick most of the time:rofl: C/hp also beats GEEF’s jumpins if your Soul Glo game isn’t up to par/ you don’t have an ultra.

Why? That’s my main use for it. It’s a guaranteed hit after focus.

c.HP against Gief means you will have to back dash or jump away unless you hit him at a far distance with it because he can attempt a SPD. At least that’s what happened with me when i tried it too haha.

edit I’m not the greatest at the game but I swear even with Rose’s tools Gief can still just walk her down and then you’re forced into the corner with no where to go. And Gief will walk her down she can’t run from him forever once he corners her cause all he really needs is ONE knockdown to put life threatning pressure on her

Thats why you combo Spiral

Most of the time, person who does their Ultra 2nd will win. So Rose’s Ultra isn’t anything too special.

Because I’ve done my Ultra and then my opponent did a Raging Demon Ultra after and it went through mine.

Ok after playing a lot more games I think I understand now. But I swear him empty jumping causes c.FP to whiff because he’s not as close to you which annoys me lol. I just have to be more agile and waaay more Mobile and control space more so he can’t just walk me down.

Thanks for the help

Just gonna work on how to fight Vega some cause he gives me super trouble too. . .to the point I have to pull out Sagat and I’m trying to drop him all together haha

No GEEF is not gonna roll up on you like that unless he has ex hand, which can be baited and punished. You WANT GEEF to come at you some of the times. It’s all about keeping him within your sweep/f+hk range and you OUT of his SPD range. It’s not that bad. Plus if you do get cornered, just slide under his crossup and backdash a couple times and start sparking.

Yea I worked it out he can barely catch me now. I started using her movement speed much more now so it’s not as “simple” to catch me.

Overall he can still catch you but he has quite a hard time doing so.

Right. You have a lot more control of the matchup than you would think.

hey luigi who would you say her hardest matchup is? i have a problem with sagat only really cuz his fireballs are still fast and a proper sagat wont let you in period.

I have a tough time with Abel, that roll is hella dumb:annoy: It can be done though.

Duck/reflect the high ones and slide/reflect/jump straigh up over the low ones works for me. Once you send a shot back, use that as your time to dash in and close space. You want to ideally get JUST outside of his dp range sincs you just KNOW he’ll try it eventually. Luck for you, you’re in range for your c.mk/c.mp ->drill to connect. If your c.mp/mk gets blocked, use a lp spark as your go to ender while mixing it in with a drill occasionally since this usually will give you a free throw attempt since they’re used to the sparks. Once you get a throw off, that mixups gets a lot easier for you and they’ll eat the fireball sometimes trying to do a throw escape. You can also just wait after the c.mp to bati a dp or do another c.mp and hit confirm into drill/spark. It’s a long match, but better safe than sorry.

I wouldn’t suggest going for crossups too much either cuz tiger upper is silly.

Random Abel tidbit - MEATY SLIDE BEATS ABEL’S REVERSAL ULTRA CLEAN!!! No need to chance fireballs and you FORCE him to combo it from now on!

I’m gonna try to get some games with some Sagat players 2nite. I’ll post up about it for sure lol

Against Abel: s.rh c.rh, F+rh as pokes ain’t that safe against rolls and EX rekka imo. Soul spiral works against EX rekka though, it has AB; it beats wheel kick too I think.
