Rose Strategies and Match-ups

As i posted in the other thread. If zangief gets in on you and is being a pain on wakeup. Backdash like crazy on wakeup. It has invuln frames and you can scoot away. Even in the corner he will whiff it if you backdash out of the tick. Either that, or jump if you can.

Make sure you have proper distance on the F HK’s against lariat. Too close and you will trade. If you do trade make sure to fast get up and backdash out of there before he can approach.

seriously once i get two of this off in a round they just try to rush me on the ground it seems like. I think after you do this a few times you need to really punish them since you know they most likely wont jump for awhile

pretty much. be good at reading throws utilize your backdash and your jump. if you get scared of FHk to punish lariat use crouching roundhouse

Beware of Gief for the fact that you can’t really use links against him because Reversal SPD will ALWAYS connect. He gets free SPD off certain blocked moves, same with Ultra too so you have to be extra careful when playing in close.

You dont need to use links or much else against Gief other than SS, low fierce, and your roundhouses. Combo the blocked green hands, wash, rinsie repeat. This is me vs some very retarded Gief who never green handed and was determined to jump in. Pretty frustrating for him.

no it wont the reason its a link its because if you do them correctly they will combo so he has no frames to SPD however if you mess up the link then yeah he can SPD you because your no longer comboing your link go to training mode and test it out, its just that if your goin to try a link you better make sure you dont mess up againts Gief

Is it too early to start posting a list of Rose’s matchups? For example, vs. Boxer 6-4, and so on. (Just an example.) It seems like she’s a great counter-pick for characters like Gief, Shotos, and Boxer. I’m not going to make a list, because frankly I seem to only play against people who don’t know what the hell is going on. (Not that I’m much better of course.)

can anyone help me strat against blanka and guile?

blanka usually bounces too far out of my attack range on whiffed balls. what should i do to punish those? and im consistantly getting whomped by guile.

well if you have ultra you can punish blanka balls, ultra, and super.

ex blanka ball goes thru shamwow.

sigh

I sure hope we are misunderstanding. I would be the second time I would have to explain to a person about this, as people seem to immediately think of a HIT when I’m talking about a link.

Now head into practice mode and try thus out for yourself:

LINK… cr.lk > cr.lp

Do SPD between the the link after blocking the cr.lk. It doesn’t matter what link you do, this is what you have to be weary of. st.mk© is very good in this situation however should you find youself in his grill.

So far I’ve only had Shamwow lose to EX Green Hand and I know a grab Ultra will win outright. Then again, I use Shamwow to punish moves later in activation - the best time to punish with it - rather than right away.

What zakuta said, if you are worried about gief SPD’ing you out of blocked hits the only safe block string i know of is 3x cr.lp Thats the only rose tool I know that has enough frame advantage to keep them in block stun. After 3 I think you push them back out of spd range anyway.

Whats good about this (and the reason 3x cr.lp combos are useful) is you can easily hit confirm (meaning one of your jabs connected, not blocked) and go into the spiral cancel if your link timing is correct, possibly even to super.

Safe block string when in close. If they block it pushes them back, if they hit you unload on them. Only thing I ever do up close against gief is cr.mp xx lk.spiral. But I’m not even sure if that is safe on block of the MP. Surely not the spiral.

Point is… don’t mess around in throw range of gief. Jab him away and back dash out of there asap.

Thanks for all the wonderful insight against said Characters. But I am finding it pretty difficult to fight Gen (could be because I’ve never fought him in my life). Currently I just block and look for openings to attack but I played a good Gen (so it seemed anyway) and he was touching me all crazy like. . . .

BTW I’m new to Rose in general and I want to main her (coming from Sagat). Still trying to fight off Gief and Balrog

funny pici editted to add some Rose matchup funny to:

lol at that pic Ice.

lol that pic was funny
and yes i meant on hit, on block i dont try any links because there’s enougth time in between for him to SPD you

Ok, after playing most of the day fighting against Gief (in ranked somehow) I will say that she seems to have one of the easier times fighting him. f.FK seems to keep him at bay and doing c.FP stops him from jumping. I found the problem of him just walking me down till im in the corner to be the real problem haha. Working on my next project which is fighting Vega cause other than Dictator he’s pretty damn annoying.

I ran into a couple Giefs (one at 5000BP) that mix up the SPD with Lariats up close. Once they get a knockdown the games begin. Lariat is retardingly strong in this game and really Fs Rose already weak wakeup game up. It beats everything she has. Even Ultra.

The best thing I found to do was to wait for the second blocked hit of the Lariat and then quickly do a safe knockdown combo (low fierce/strong xx Spiral). If you’re not quick enough u get to eat SPD.

Some Blanka stuff (he is annoying):

Can reflect balls (consider him as a projectile for timing), though it can be pretty tight when it comes to close range. Extreme close range (not pointblank, too risky.) will require almost guess timing to reflect a fast ball. Any of this this will definitely turn the tables when they see it and think “wtf?” Helps install the “can’t spam balls too much now” mindset into your opponent and allows you to rush down more effectively. Haven’t tried to slide under it yet, seems too risky and not very rewarding. Rainbow roll is very punishable. Usually I’ll just go for reversal roundhouse drill, though you can ultra it if you have it. Might be able to dash in and do a bread n butter as he lands, haven’t tried more than a handful of times; I like to take the 100 damage and free KD. His slide destroys your fireballs; pretty much not worth it to even try them if you aren’t nearly full screen or see him doing something else. Stand forward and roundhouse look cute but don’t hit the slide and can be CH due to how long the move is active, better to block and punish, that thing isn’t safe at all. Blanka’s ultra isn’t that tight, learn to not be afraid of it unless he is close enough for the first hit (low) to connect. Otherwise you can:

-Crouch fierce (if he was close, but not close enough for the low to connect.) He should be almost directly above you while in the air. That is when you strike. Not as risky once you get used to doing it.
-Soul Throw (if he was about a stand roundhouse a way from you when he started it.) He should be floating in front of you, you should soul throw while he is at the height of his attack. Can be tricky, I believe if you fail, you will not get hit by the entire ultra (since you were aerial, you will fall weird.) EX doesn’t seem to work much better than the others, unless he is closer to you or you try to do it while he is falling.
-H. Reflect (Just about anywhere as long as he isn’t right on top of you.) Lastly, but not least, my favorite. H. reflect, for me is the best option against Blanka’s ultra. As long as your head isn’t TOO close, you will always CH him out of that electric ball. The reason I like this so much is because you can either combo your super off of this or go for cross up/mix up/whatever off KD. You can do EX reflector if you are not too quick on reacting or if you aren’t a bar builder like me.
So pretty much you want to do crouch fierce if he is too close for H. reflect.

I will work on more Blanka madness match up info later (probably electricity and counter poking.) Hopefully that helps some of ya’ll deal with that green fur ball.

Wake up backdash escapes SPD attempts.

Btw… don’t know if it’s just me but Rose seems to be very limited in this game compared to other characters. I feel like if the Japanese were to get hands on her or something, they wouldn’t be able to find anything new that we already know.

Maybe because Rose is the only char I really played. Perhaps other chars are limited too?
