Zak can you comment on your opinion of EX drill as wakeup/reversal?
I tried using it as a reversal off the floor once and it worked…but admittedly I was quite lucky. Though yes, you can use it as a reversal attack off the floor. It’s unsafe on block however and you’re left in close to your opponent so like most reversal attacks of this nature, don’t spam it
I don’t see why not having a reversal is a problem at all, BLOCK or back dash is all anybody needs on wake-up in this game. EX-drill works fine, but I still see no point to use it. Block their poke string and you’re back out to a range where I think Rose dominates a lot of the cast, since I think she has the best mid- to long-range game.
Oh yeah, about the sakura thing, just backdash. . .
i have trouble anti-aring shoto jumpings, ussually my crouching fierce trades with thier j.RH.
So in those mathups i tend to keep a bar of super so i can EX Soul Trow them out of the air, i dont know if there’s a btter option thougth.
Anybody have some suggestions?
vs Balrog.
Holy crap can’t keep him off me.
I started figuring out Sakura thanks to you guys but this guys lows aren’t low, s.mk and s.hk do nothing because they have nothing to go over.
The guy keeps punching away and there’s almost no way to get him off.
Once I’m in the corner it’s a boxing glove fest.
Hit them early. I never have trouble vs jump in shotos.
Try EX Soul Spiral to knock him off.
Nightmare matchup IMO. This and Bison are pretty bad.
I’ve yet to fight a Balrog of any kind o_O but it seems like the perfect matchup to start really abusing low strong. VS. Bison I tend to put myself in the air more often than other matchups. I’m really not sure wtf to do against a good Sagat though.
I am sorry i am new to SFIV like most of everyone else :P. And maybe what I said has already been said, but her light soul spark is very slow which seems good. If you focus cancel it(FADC) and dash it seems you can do some mix up with it. You guys check it out. Its kinda like you can dash to the opponent b4 the fireball connects if you focus cancel her light soul spark. Could be useful for mix-ups.
Of course the light soul spark from max distance can be combo into ultra and a low RK. The point being it seems you can do a mix-up from far distance light soul spark kinda like guile in sf2 with his sonic boom.
With Akuma, maybe you could HP Reflect(air fireball) and then slide to avoid some follow-up mix-ups. Its one option at least. Its just an idea though and I haven’t tried.
I too have never had trouble AA’ing shoto’s with cr.HP. You can’t throw it out late though (just like any AA). If you are having trouble go into training and put the dummy to do jump in kicks. I used this to see when I could press the button to trade and when I needed to hit it to stuff them clean.
Overkill as it may be, I plan to go through the whole cast trying all their jump in normals to see what will not be worth throwing out cr.HP against. So far all I’ve heard is that chun trades or beats it, but its so early I’ll just do the diligence.
Has this been mentioned yet? Against dhalsim. Throw out the slow soul spark, and dash follow it. If sim jumps up in the air to attempt to hit you, hit him with ultra. Seems to work pretty reliably. And if he doesnt jump it puts you in a good spot to pressure anyways.
When sim jumps into the air to do the downward punch… if you ultra will he definitely fall fast enough to land on it?
Also, if you use this often against the same sim he could easily air teleport causing you to burn your ultra. Can he teleport after the end of his air punch? or does he not have another air action?
against balrog you can focus his dash straight and dash upper punches. while his armor breaking punches are unsafe on block, except the ex which is like -1 on block. a few lvl 2 focus counters in his face should slow him down quite a bit.
It was working for me if he drills into it it’ll hit, or if he punches itll grab his arms. If he teleports i’d imagine youre screwed. And I dont think he gets to teleport after hes commited to a move. If you use it in a mixup if you think hes going to anticapte it you can just block and if he air teleports grab him with an ex soul throw.
Just as more general vs Dhalsim stuff. You don’t really have to come towards him at all, you can sit back and zone with soul sparks. Or you can soul reflect his yoga fires. The FP version hits him a lot if he tries to jump-in follow up. Or you can build your meter with the lp version.
A few times the Dhalsim I played tried to do the teleport behind me after a yoga fire trick, but I was able to throw him out of it after I reflected the fire. My memory is a little sketchy on that.
Why is Bison a bad matchup for Rose?
Has anyone found a way to counter C.Viper’s power glove thing? I can punish the high one with a crouching medium to drill, but she gets away with that low shit all day.
Is Rose better played aggressively or defensively? Ive been playing her quite a bit, and my game is mostly punishment and pokes. I get punished too often when I try to rush down or get on the offensive, I usually wait for a whiff or a messed up move and follow up with a cr.mp/mk xx Soul Spark/Drill, and try to pressure people with lp Soul Sparks and do Shoul Reflects to give them incentive not to get close, and continue poking.
I dunno it depends. We are all new to rose. I suppose defensive is the best and safest option because of her l33t ultra.
Playing the keep away strategy is how I use her as well. Poking from long range and punishing attacks.
To me her moveset seems to reflect a defensive play from her.
Couple strategies I use is slide kick and throw. Light soul spark and dash and do whatever.
Light soul spark FADC dash and do whatever.
Speak for yourself, I’ve been down with this bitch since Alpha 2.
The best way to play her is on D for the first 1/3 to 3/4 of the other guys life bar, then out of nowhere go for the throat, use the Ultra to stop anything advancement on O.
She eats Shotos for free…or rather they eat her
I play somewhat defensively when I see someone try to rush me. If they’re turtling and just ASKING for my jumping crossovers, I do that too. I just don’t do it against SRKing enemies though. I make sure to soften the ground with projectiles and anti-air special before I scare them into turtling.
That’s the essence of Rose in her entire history.
Turtle a little bit, then go insane on them with crossovers.
And better yet, going all out while you have the Ultra meter is sorta safe, because if enemies are feeling frisky, you can whip out that Ultra and counter them very reliably.
