Hey guys, what would you say is a good move to do on recovery? Is there an ex move that has invincibility frames? I’m having trouble on wake ups quite a lot.
Just block or backdash. EX drill has too much startup to do anything.
So you can backdash from standup without getting hurt?
Also, am tips for light speed spamming sagats? They’re really getting on my tits.
??? EX drill is the only Rose reversal (asides ultra of course).
back dashing is quite risky, you can get caught easily.
Saqs is too good. Carry on.
- Simple old tactic that I neglected early on:
after knockdown back up to max sweep distance and euh, meaty sweep. This would normally get you reversalled, where it not that the distance is so big nobody ever tries to reversal from there.
The nice thing is that it is completely safe on block (due to its distance), and that it surprises many who think they are way out of harm.
Initial success rate at my level is above 50%, then it goes down during the match. So time for crossups
-
Another one so obvious:
instead of always doing slide to throw, switch it up with slide to C MK to drill. This works best for long range slides that barely hit. Their tech misses, you get a free BnB. -
And a simple trick:
attack randomly with a HK Drill. This move is dangerous to start, but recovers insanely fast (+2 adv). Follow it up with a C LP (+3 startup) into LK Drill (comboes fast but recovers very slow).
This gives the opponent only 1 frame after the initial drill to counter, which they use, and lose to your C LP.
The beauty of this thing is that people dont know Rose and have no idea what recover for how long. It’s how Cammies always get to me with their drills. I think counter, they say NO.
Every drill is a path to super btw, I’m starting to love the fact that C LP to LK drill is so easy to do.

Ok guys, lets talk about the new tier placement and where Rose stands(lower mid tier)
Sagat: 4-6
Ryu: 4-6
Gief: 4-6
Rufus: 5-5
Boxer: 4-6
Akuma: 5-5
Blanka: 5-5
Chun: 4-6
Dictator: 5-5
Seth: 4-6
Viper: 5-5
Ken: 5-5
*Honda: 5-5
*Guile: 5-5
*Gouken: 6-4
Rose: N/A
Sim: 5-5
Fei Long: 5-5
Abel: 5-5
Elf: 6-4
Cammy: 5-5
Gen: 5-5
Vega: 4-6
Sakura: 5-5
Dan: 6-4
Total wins:116. For comparison Sagat gets 146, Ken(whos mid mid) gets 120, and Dan gets 94.
*tied with Rose for wins.
Anyway I agree with most of these(especially vs Chun: focus, sweep and legs are rough on her poking ability), but I would think that Honda would be a harder match for her since it seems he can headbut for free…but then again I haven’t played that match at all really.
Any questions? Comments?
Looks fine to me. Nothing worse than a 4-6 is great.
I don’t quite see why she’s even with Akuma. Sure his ranged fireball game is negated, but between air fireballs, dive kicks and teleports I’m not not sure why they’re calling this even. I’m also not convinced that she goes even with Bison.
She’s probably even with Akuma since she can negate is FB game which is one of his strongest abilities to zone other players and with Rose it simply doesn’t work since she can send them flying back at him and essentially make him fight his own FB’s. Take away that and he’s little more than a Ken/Ryu with less health and an un-combo-able super/ultra.
Bison I’d have to give a slight advantage to Rose. She can shut his head stomp/demon reverse game down with her ST or C.hp leaving him with only his knee press and psycho crusher. The psycho crusher is easily punished and hardly any Bison players regularly use it so all you really have to deal with is his knee press (which can be a pain).
All in all though I can somewhat agree with that list. She’s actually in a 4 way tie for top of mid tier because E.Honda, Guile and Gouken all have 116 wins each.
I think what’s interesting there is how Vega’s only favorable match is against Rose.
Akuma has way more than fireballs. His meterless combos are ridiculous. He has no need to stay off of Rose as he doesn’t have much to fear from her.
What’s a Saqs?:bluu:
I’m so not agreeing with Blanka being 5-5. I’d say 4-6 because he has so many mixups on your wakeup than you can’t do shit about. Hell, meaty electricity is a 3-way mixup in itsse;f. I found this out the hard way:sad:
I’ll add my (mid-level) comments to this
Sagat: 4-6 -> True for known reasons. His AA game is stronger as is he’s distance game. In his face is the only way.
Ryu: 4-6 -> True, any error is you eating super/ultra. Great mixup with blockstrings too.
Gief: 4-6 -> Unsure, I’d call it even. You just cant make errors but its quite possible to perfect him, his green hand is his only road in.
Rufus: 5-5 -> Unsure, I’d give him advantage due to his dives and WTF spam.
Boxer: 4-6 -> True, if he uses headbutt wisely u wont be poking at all
Akuma: 5-5 -> True, just slide him to death
Blanka: 5-5 -> Unsure more like 4-6 , only Ultra can stop his balling game, but then he still has a great close mixup game to play
Chun: 4-6 -> Unsure, I’d call it even 5-5. Her sweep is strong, also her double air punch and crossups. But hmm, didnt lose much yet tho.
Dictator: 5-5 -> True, stuff him.
Seth: 4-6 -> Probably true, who really knows?
Viper: 5-5 -> dont know
Ken: 5-5 -> Unsure, I’d give Rose advantage 6-4 overall. Maybe his Kara can shift it indeed.
*Honda: 5-5 -> Unsure, I’d give this to Honda 4-6. He isnt very punishable and Oicho is scary.
*Guile: 5-5 -> Unsure, 6-4 imo. What is so scary about him? Outpoke him.
*Gouken: 6-4 -> Unsure, 4-6 imo, his dives arent punishable, his distance game is great, combo damage amazing.
Rose: N/A
Sim: 5-5 -> True
Fei Long: 5-5 -> dont know
Abel: 5-5 -> Unsure, more like 4-6. What to do against those throw mixups? Rolls are undermining all stronger pokes
Elf: 6-4 -> True, poke him away
Cammy: 5-5 -> True, generally 6-4 unless she uses dives to good effect
Gen: 5-5 -> True, he has amazingly fast cross-up options into super/ultra
Vega: 4-6 -> True, if you can handle his dives/izunas
Sakura: 5-5 -> Unsure, sometimes I think this is 4-6, Sakura can really overwhelm you
Dan: 6-4 -> True, could this be 7-3 even?
I abuse the slide to the maximum with fair success. It disallows him to do air fireballs, you stay glued to his feet. Any punish that you can pull off inflicts great pain because of his low health. His wont dive nor jump when you have ultra either. Ultra is easily half his health. Throws harm more.
Havent had any troubles recently against him, really. Just stay close, and if you are far, well, whatever, reflect or absorb. His fireballs are all very easy to catch, unlike Sagat. The dreadful red fireball is like a gift on a plate for Rose.
i dont agree. Good Abels are a pain when they realize how to use Marseilles Roll properly.
this is an uphill battle for me, i really hate when people choose Abel, i know im gonna have a hard time
@ Acku, you can stop blanka’s horizontal ball with a simple lp or c.mp, you can stop rainbow rolls with a soul throw (super easy to spot because of it’s startup) and on block they are both punishable with ultra or EX spark.
Against boxer, Rose’s slide will stuff all of his rushing punches it’s even safe on an EX rush punch since his punch will whiff after you hit him and then you can proceed to punish him. I’d call that one 6-4 in Rose’s favor. Also once Rose has ultra, boxer has literally no specials that can’t be either stuffed or punished by ultra, hell even his super/ultra can be stuffed by Rose’s ultra.
Bullshit.
Just because you like someone don’t go around falsley proclaiming their greatness. Now I can understand going dead even with Bison and no more, but there’s no way she has the advantage.
First of all try to soul throw a Devil Reverse which most good Bisons will do at at least a 3:1 ratio over stomp and you’ll get hit almost every time; certainly enough to make this exchange go in his favor. Because you’re guessing what Bison’s going to do I don’t see how that’s a useful option against a good one.
As for Rose having the advantage over Balrog… really?
Slide against EX Dash punches?.. really?
'Rog has 5 different EX punches that’s and 3 of them can be slid under.
The dash upper no good 'Rog is going to use outside of a combo.
The dash straight is typically used to blow through fireballs or eat jump ins
The dash tornado is a focus breaker, and really doesn’t need to be EX’ed.
The only two that you’ll see good 'Rogs EX “cold” are dash lower and the overhead. Both of which will murder slide.
Balrog can jump in on Rose all day. Because his jump arc is small and quick, and his HK hits downward thus hitting slide - he doesn’t have to fear much from her. HP from far will beat anything you’ve got. Lastly Rog is one of the beastlier players in fucking with you on wakeup and Rose is dead last when it comes to defending here.
Lastly your statement about ultra is completely backwards. It should read “Balrog has no specials (except HP headbutt )that are punishable by ultra.” If you’re super quick you can get him in startup but if you try to block and reverse anything other than Headbutt (and I’m not completely sure you can punish it) You’ll get blocked and punished.
You’re giving out false info.
edit: Looking again… I’m not even sold on the Rainbow roll. I think that if he holds it he can hit you underneath your hitbox, or make you whiff completely. Plus a far better strategy is just to focus the damned thing, dash/focus release and punish. It’s more solid and you’ll get more damage than you would from a soul throw.
You can sell Rose going even with Bison, but it’s foolish to think that she has an advantage over 'Rog.
You can’t build a matchup theory over ranked online. That’s all there is to it. Crap’s already told me before when we discussed things like this that he does things based on how well they work the first (and last) time he fights somebody in ranked. These things wouldn’t work on someone playing against you in a set or at a tournament, likely not even the first time. Gimmicks are gimmicks. You can get away with mad stupid shit online. It gives a very skewed impression of matchups if that’s all you play.
Also, Boxer’s crouching jab. Just wanted to add that.
I’m not making false statements just because “I like someone”. I’m telling people what has worked for me. I play ranked and CE mode. I have currently about 4k BP and am ranked at G2E with 2100GP and that’s the competition I’m facing and what is working. With boxer I usually bait a dash strait with a hp spark then slide. Usually they will block the first one then wait for you to try it again. So I just press c.lp to get them to dash then slide when they do. The slide will hit and break their armor, their punch will whiff and then you can choose the punishment of your liking. Typically I like c.lp, c.lp, c.lp, c.mp, drill.
EX Dash over head will not beat her slide either if the slide connects breaking the armor because you can c.lp before the overhead lands stopping it from connecting.
EX Dash lower can be a pain to stop and yes I forgot about this one. But honestly It’s not like I try to slide on all of boxers dashes. I’ll mix it up with drills (which do beat any and all EX dashes of his because it’s armor breaking)
And Balrog can try to jump in on Rose all day if he wants he’ll just end up getting thrown all over the screen. Typically if a player jumps at me regardless of who it is I slide under them and throw them.
EDIT: And yes you most certainly CAN stop Blankas rainbow roll with a soul throw. Their is no need to try and focus it because the damned thing has huge start up you can spot it a mile away giving you plenty of time to input the command for a ST.
Just because something works for you doesn’t mean that’s how you should play the matchup. That’s like saying, “I like to run across the street in traffic because it saves time.” Yep it works for you maybe you haven’t gotten hit yet, but that doesn’t make it advisable or smart.
Again, why the hell would you want to? Focus absorb release/dashback has far more damage potential.
Maybe you haven’t noticed, but everyone has their own play style. Each player uses what tactics work for them. What I’m saying works and works well in my play style. And the same thing goes for you. Just because you said so or it works for you doesn’t make it law. I’m simply giving out possibilities and options that players can use. You act as if Rose can do nothing against boxer or that he can jump in with impunity. Boxer really has to watch what he’s doing against Rose and jumping all the time against any character is a bad idea in this game. And Rose does have options to stop boxers jumping. You can do a late EX soul throw and that will catch him or a much safer option is slide under him and either throw or combo him.
And as for why would you want to ST Blanka’s rainbow roll? Why wouldn’t you want to? Is the more appropriate question. It’s a viable option and an extremely easy method to shut it down. Yes you may be able to do a little more damage if you focus absorb then try a quick combo, but the timing is MUCH more strict and you have a very small window to punish him before he recovers, if the room is even the slightest bit laggy forget about it. ST is a better idea and does 140 damage and scores you a knock down.
