Rose Strategies and Match-ups

Hiding behind what’s considered “style” isn’t applicable here. If someone tells you that it’s their “style” to jump in on Ryu what would you say? That’s pretty much the equivalent of what you’re saying.

Do you know how controllable EX roll is? From anything less than full screen he can hold it for quite a while and choose his decent angle. It’s very easy for you to whiff a soul throw a soul throw against a Blanka who doesn’t just try to zoom at you every time. Focusing it is a far superior option. Punishing his landing is basically as easy as punishing a Fierce DP because when he hits your focus he bounces up. If you don’t feel confident in your ability to combo him then just throw him from there. Still as high as he bounces up you’ve got all day to compose yourself and hit him with cr. HP xx drill which does far more damage, still gives you knockdown, gives you more super meter and ultra meter.

Boxer: 4-6

I’m agreeing on Hotobu on this. Yeah slide is pretty good against regular dashes(I often start the match with this), but once he gets meter then this becomes unusable at random ranges. I haven’t seen her c.hp get stuffed by his jumpins(trade at worst), but standing fp and his sweep at range stuffs the shit out of her pokes. So it ends up with her not being able to continually pressure him, while he could rush her down quite a bit when he has meter.

Dictator: 5-5

Dealing with stomp/reverse with ST and c.fp is suicide, jumping back with fk is usually the best bet besides the usual backdash. However when she has her Ultra he can’t reverse and land close to you at all…and even if you don’t have one you can slide past it if you’re on point. You also can’t slide against him when he’s on the ground since scissor kicks eat that shit up. And of course, you can’t really jump in at him since you don’t wanna eat j.mp into ultra.

But the real game here is dealing with short scissor kicks on block. They’re even on block, and he can mixup throws or more shorts, and use ex scissors here and there to keep you honest. You’ll really have to mixup what you do after those on block depending on his position(otherwise he’ll lock you down):

-if he lands close up to you try throwing him or jumping up and fp on the way down.
-if he lands a little bit from you, try crossing him up or using s.mk:at that range it beats damn near everything(probably not his s.fk though), can even stuffs regular scissor kicks
-if you think he’s gonna EX knee you then just block and punish.

The only real x factor here for me is his EX stomp. I haven’t dealt with that alot up close so I don’t know how it acts vs her pokes, but I would imagine ex knee is alot worse anyway.

But yeah, I can see Rose going even with Dictator. Boxer though…not so much.

Getting a fe better Sagats now at G2 and I noticed that some really like to abuse the jumping elbow thing. Think its J MP or so. This thing stuffed all my aerial attacks (wheras I usually win with J FP), and was lengthy enough to even combo me on block, or hit me on a try to trip.
It’s active time seems huge, so huge he just can throw it out there whenever he jumps shutting down all options (soul throw for sure). Not sure about C HP at the time, but the attacks looks fast as hell, I am a bit slow with C HP if I didnt expect a jumpin.

c.HP will beat it if done early enough but that’s the least of her problems in this matchup. TK is a much bigger issue. I havent found an answer to s.LK xx LK TK lockdown. Backdash in the open work well but if cornered it can get ugly quick. I wish I had my camera for a beatdown I got yeterday.

I usually just pray that they do the tk string wrong and punih with cl.p c.lk c.mp drill.

Well, it’s +frames or close to it if they’re doing it right, so pretty much all you can do is block. Why they made that move so stupid safe, I don’t know.

SAGAT. Yeah, j.MP doesn’t bother me as much as, say, losing most of my life after he hits me with a cr.LK.

Still fighting Sagat is some “death by 1000 cuts” shit. She’s got to do alot of damage to get up, and with the variant speed and height of his Tigers reflecting really isn’t an option.

Yea, I get hit A LOT trying to constantly reflect. I sometimes do reflect and fa a few to build meter to keep him throwing them then try to throw him off by going on teh offense out of nowhere while he’s still throwing. It works, but it’s risky though. Also I like how Rose has to spend half a meter to do anywhere near the damage sagat can off c.lk c.lp c.lp TU

What’s the consensus vs Sagat? I don’t see how she’s 4-6 in that matchup. It feels like I’m using Dan when I’m playing against him.

With sakura sometimes I just tap focus like a parry against one of the hits prior to the knee and backdash. Not sure how this may or may not work out with rose, but it might be worth a shot.

Sagat has stupid damage off ov everything.

hk = you can’t jump in

Tiger shots shut you down even though you can reflect/absorb.

The last two can be overcome, but I honestly think the damage factor is what makes this matchup so bad.

Oh yeah, kara knee is gdlk and he gets free mixups off of it if done right. On the off chance they mess it up, it’s a free cl.p c.lk. c.mp drill for you:tup:

Yeah, but by the time they mess up (if they do) I will likely have received as much damage blocking as Saggy did from that little combo.

Anyway, how are the standing HK and tiger shots overcome? If they high tiger shot I can slide to move forward half an inch. If they low tiger shot I pretty much have to block. And of course spamming that shit gives him EX meter. Ridiculous.

It’s been a while since I’ve played Rose so check this as I could be completely wrong, but does her slide go under the low ones too? I seem to distinctly remember using her slide to avoid some random ass move in this game that I thought it would never work on, maybe it’s the low shot.

Anyway even if this doesn’t work try neutral jumping, or (depending on your distance) focus dash forward.

Her slide will go under his low tiger shots as well, just have to be more precise with your timing.

No way! If thats so…can she go under Guile/Ryu/Ken/Dhalsim/Sakura’s projectiles?

I gotta head back to training mode and try this out.

If this is true good sh** Crap1!

It goes under all fireballs AFAIK, but you need to be deep, like in the middle of your slide. More important seems to be the pace of the fireball, if it’s slow it just might not work. Fast ones look easier to slide.
Same with super/ultra fireballs.

it even works on some non-fireballs super. i’ve only got confirmation for gen’s super unfortunately.

As was said above, she can slide under any projectile in the game, normal FB’s, EX FB’s or even super/ultra FB’s she can slide under them all.

Yeah. I’d only try it offline though, the timing is tough. It’s worth it for like fast tiger shots, since jumping over or trying to reflect those can be a bad idea if you don’t want to focus.

Right, the slide I use often on Ryu, but for Sagat unless I’m close…I guess I gotta practice with it. What I’ve started doing, to moderate success, is building half a super bar then Lp Soul Spark -->FADC–>rush rush rush rush.

That gets me in close, and worst case I usually get a throw in and have them on the ground. Ideally I would do a full combo, but I’ve seen so many cases where latency induces a C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER that takes crazy life from me.

So yeah, small steps.

One last question, Rose in the corner, opponent jumps at you. What do you do? Too close for a cr. Fp or soul throw. Here’s an example. I was playing a Blanka yesterday who got me in the corner then would cross up kick–>cr.Lp–>electricity–>low kick (either Mk or Fk). The only thing that worked at all was to interrupt his low kick with a jab if I was lucky. Against some characters, jumping straight up with Lk works, but not in that case…
