Are you focusing the wall dives? Also don’t even bother trying to do anything after frame advantage moves, i.e. close HP. If you can get his mask/claw off, try to keep him away from them. Once his mask is off, he gets hurt badly.
Otherwise, use your normals wisely and attack when you have an opening, but like I said earlier, trying to interrupt him probably won’t work. His pokes are better, but that’s mostly all he has. He has several answers to slow soul spark, so if you’re going to use one, try HP. Otherwise, if he has meter or ultra, he can punish you for fireballs or just avoid them altogether and use your recovery time ot put himself in a more advantageous position. This is from the limited experience I have fighting decent Vegas.
His EX claw goes through FB’s his EX dive can be hit with a FB but it’s difficult to hit him unless you can get him right as he tries to hit you. I usually wait till he peaks over me then beck dash and lp spark or EX spark if I have meter.
I have to be honest though, I haven’t played many good Vega’s. But you can focus his regular dives and then punish as you see fit. If he is back flip happy an lp spark will often catch him because it moves so damn slow he will finish the back flip animation before the FB moves past him.
In this match I find that soul throw is also particularly useful since he will probably not be ready for it when he tries a dive you can catch him a few times and then you’ll get him thinking and guessing if you’re going to try it and he will try his attack earlier in the air leaving him open to c.hp or a combo as he lands.
I have to say though Vega and Guile are probably the 2 most annoying fights for Rose. Because one likes to flip around all over the place and poke at you randomly while the other wants to sit there and turtle the whole damn match.
So has anyone gotten good at using jHP as a crossup on occasion? It has pretty precise spacing and timing requirements for an xup, so I know it wouldn’t replace jMK or anything, but I feel it may have its occasional uses (after cHK sweep, cornered opponent, etc). I also like that you can time it a little too late and sometime catch people off guard with an empty jHP to throw. Plus, it has an ambiguity to it that’s lacking from jMK.
By the way, I kinda wish they let you do crossup jHP -> Ultra although a crossup Ultra would be a little bit nasty…
j. hp is really only useful as a crossup in the corner other than that j.mk is much more reliable. And you can combo to ultra with a deep jump in hp or hk you don’t need it to be a crossup.
Aside from that, anyone got any tips for fighting aggressive boxers? He’s basically the only character that I have a ton of trouble with when played aggressively.
Yep, I know, almost everyone can do it, plus some can even combo Ultra off their mids (Dan off jMP, Ken off jMK). But being able to do it on crossup (and as ambiguous a crossup as jHP) would be pretty sick. I’m not talking about replacing jMK as a crossup as I stated, I’m more referring to how it can be used for crossup mixups and ambiguities in your gameplay.
Zujira, if you’ve got the reactions try using more LK Spirals then you normally would to contend with his armored moves. I haven’t played any (good) super-aggressive Boxers yet so I can’t say for sure on much more. I feel comfortable being in the air against the few I’ve played as Rose, given they don’t have Ultra up.
For Rog, keep your distance as long as you can using sparks and pokes. Try to bait his TAP bu changing up the timing of your sparks and then doing standing hp. Once he gets an ex bar still try to keep distance except instead us try to hit him with hp, go for lk drill. Once you knock him down, STAY ON HIS ASS LIKE YOUR LIDE DEPENDED ON IT! He can’t randomly headbutt you since you can bait/beat it on the ground and go into a combo. So this gives you throw and crossup options. If you have super meter, don’t be afraid yo focus cancel to make yourself safe cuz 1 jab = pain train. Also, resets fuck up Rog players a lot I’ve been finding out.
so…I find myself sometimes struggling against Blanka players with Rose. I usually bait for balls so I can just s.lp those things. But every now and then i’ll get a crossup happy blanka. It feels like all that match it’s just mad keepaway, poke with slow soul sparks, and make sure Blanka wastes meter.
and we know to probably never do crossups on Blanka as most people will just spam electricity to stop that shit in its tracks.
This match is mad keepaway, poking with slow soul sparks and making sure Blanka wastes meter, unfortunately.
However, you do have some options. If you got a horizontal ball happy Blanka, just spam away your lp soul sparks until he has an EX meter then just wait for him and ultra him when you block it.
I’m also pretty sure that slide beats electricty on his wakeup, so plenty of slidethrow shenanigans can and should be used in this matchup. The key is to knock him down, then keep him guessing. Once he’s up, revert to turtle.
Edit : Keeping my distance against Rog doesn’t work, there’s only so much stage, and when I’m backed into a corner by him, I’m pretty much screwed. I know crossups work well on him, but that requires me actually knocking him down, which is one hell of a job. As for baiting TAP, I’ve yet to see a Rog worth his weight in FIGHT MONEYYYY use TAP for anything besides building meter after landing his ultra.
Well the good news for Rose in this matchup is that her Super and Ultra are perfect retaliations for any Horizontal ball, so I HIGHLY recommend using no EX moves for this reason.
st. mk should work really well because it can’t be swept (no slide) and can stuff horizontal balls. As usual Rose has a great get-out-of-crossup free card with her slide, so when he gets close you can decide between cr. HP at anti air or slide. Also jump back FP works too. He’s going to have to hit you deep to cross you up so jump back FP will hit him. Just be careful and don’t get too happy with it because if he sees it he (I think) can just trip guard sweep you with his slide (I don’t know the distancing on this off the top of my head).
Lastly remember that Blanka is a charge character, and his armor break is a charge. When you see him take a step forward you can focus fish. If you throw this in between soul sparks at a distance you can make him less slide happy. And speaking of his slide this move has a DECEPTIVELY LONG range. So don’t get fireball happy.
I guess this could work, but I wouldn’t rely on something like this. If it’s an LP electricity you can just walk up and throw him… but still just fireball him, why risk frame disadvantage/tech throw with a slide?
Like I said, keep him guessing. Do a slide throw, then a regular throw, then whatever, mix it up. You’re right, throwing beats lp electricity, what if they don’t use lp? Then you get sent halfway across the screen and take some damage. Slide throw on the first knockdown allows for variety. Most Blankas or people in general won’t tech your second throw if you land the first, which isn’t hard since it doesn’t seem like too many people know that the slidethrow can be beat out or they simply just don’t expect it.
tl;dr Okay, lets assume you throw him out of his lp electricity. Now you’ve got him down, now what are you gonna do? You can either try regular throwing him again, which is either gonna get stuffed or teched, cr.jab him, which will leave him still on his feet in your face, or slide.
Then sweep them, or take advantage of the fact that you’re playing someone with a fireball and hit him. Also I believe cr. mp/mk will hit him as well, but I’d have to recheck that.
Truthfully if you’re playing people that fall for slide/throw then your competition isn’t very good. Rose basically has to throw after a slide not necessarily for offense, but for defense. Getting hit with a slide should be auto-tech.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t know any Blankas that are gonna turn on the electricty when I’m far enough away from them that Rose’s sweep won’t get stuffed.
Cr.mp gets stuffed, mk might, might not. There’s a lot of people I’ve played that don’t know about or simply don’t stop the slide throw consistently. I personally don’t find it very defensive, but to each his own I suppose.
Truthfully, if you’re playing people that fall for backdash’d fireballs on wakeup, then your competition isn’t very good.
Sigh, which is why I said backdash. Blanka has two options. Block and get zoned away, or EX ball. If you’re far enough away which you will be if you backdash. You can see it coming from a mile away and jab him out of it.
Yes, I do realize that the slide is -3 on hit. So let’s see, it stuffs electricty at point blank range and if I’m reading his frame data correctly, Blanka has no normals or specials that can be activated before she’s out of cooldown.
Blanka has more than two options. You’re either assuming the Blanka is going to wake up with electricity every time or you’re just gonna be a turtle for the whole match and not put on pressure at all. If you backdash he has EX horizontal ball, EX rainbow ball, amazon river run which WILL if you just backdash’d once and tried to throw a fireball or coward crouch.
