Rose Strategies and Match-ups

I mean…yeah, we’re not debating that.

Well, it’s probably very simple: when crouching your hitbox shifts down-forward, as they bend their knees. You can see that easily in HD Remix. This means that you lose some space when standing, and her ultra is standing.
The reversal reach is probably that tight that it makes a difference.

That tier list is a load of shit beacuse i’v bin playing Rose alto so of late and find she dose not deserve to be at the bottom, any one can win with any charcter in the game it all comes down to the players skill.

yeah and tier list are based off each character used at their max potential not because you play her a lot.

Most people are at the max level with any said character so you don’t really start to hurt too badly until you’ve gotten really good anyway.

By that point you should have figured out new stuff to get around things. IMHO

That makes a lot more sense if you mean “most people aren’t” there…

okay so i played againts a C.Viper and let me tell that bicth is annoying. She can control so much space with her seismos, feint to bait you into jumping, her flame kicks are unstopable, and her overhead is safe and on hit gives her a free 50/50. On the ground Rose’s normals are better but she can always just whore out her flame kicks to knock you donw and start her offense which is rock solid. Overall this matchup seems like Viper can stall with seismos to stop you from trowing fireballs and use her superjump + flame kick to get in and pressure you.

I also played a Rufus and that fat bastard is hard to keep out. Once he gets in he can pressure you wich dive kicks and crossup divekicks, if he lands on of those and he has ultra he can link into his target combo wich means free Ultra. Lets not forget about messiah kick wich is his free get out of jail card, if that hits you he can focus cancel that into Ultra scary huh?

Im gonna try some more things out when i play these chracters out, but it seems like Rose has a lot of bad macthups:crybaby:

I DO need to find some Viper players now that you mention it, like good ones.:bluu:

I do find against Roofus, but it is hard as hell to find a way out if he finds a way to get in.(Usually through ex messiah kick). Actually if it wasn’t for that move, Rose could probably beat him a lot easier. I dunno…:bluu:

against the one viper player i play out here i tend to just jump straight up against her seismos. without a hit she cant sjc. i try to play my distance at her when i can but i never try to jump in on her anymore that damn hp spark she has is stupid. the most i can do on ground is backdash an attempt and if it goes through dash forward and play a quick in game then dash out since i know either a spark is coming or a seismo. against flame kick mixup i tend to stick with jabs just in case she tries to throw me i also think jab beats out any move she tries to stick out to cancel into spark. if i see flame kick shenanigans coming i use ex st it seems to be the safest way to catch the bitch but only when its about to be deep. other than that i know rose cant play a fireball game unless its up close in a combo and that aint good for nothing since you already have to work to get in.

Some trouble ensues against Gouken when he uses his divekicks a lot. Soul throw is very difficult against it. Any counters?

would you guys have any tips on how to handle the guile match-up ?
soulspark’s start-up is too slow to compete at a distance versus sonics and reflect would eventually get me smashed by an ex.
i tried to get in but damn it’s hard : his wake-up game is really good when he can fadc flashkicks…
any ideas ?

fadc’ing flash kicks burns 2 stock, and his non ex flash kick trades with a ton of stuff in this game. You might try your j.mk or j.hp against wakeup flash. Even if he does wakeup flash and cancels it… he just burned 2 EX stock, and you can tech the throw if he dashes in. I’d be overjoyed if he fadc’ed a wakeup flash. Less EX S’booms to deal with.

That said, I don’t have a tremendous answer for him because of the SB recovery. Focus dashing pushes you through the sonic boom spam without soaking too much damage because they are so weak, but you have to be careful for crouching kicks/sweeps and his backhand that has great range. Knowing your slide distances would help here. I think you can beat him in a footsie game if you get it close. I really spam the hell out of focus attack in this matchup.

All blazing kicks (ground, air, EX) can be soul thrown. It doesn’t have to be an EX either. Problem is, you have to do it in anticipation. Her normal seismos blow, so if she has no meter, you can use your normals and knock her out of her blazing kicks and thunder knuckles. But EX seismos are the problem as there’s not a way to make those whiff on the ground. Only thing you can do is jump and hope it wasn’t a cancel.

Standing mk is a good friend when she’s up close. It’s quick and hops over her cr mk and knockes her ground bk out of the air. Only her lp BK and EX seismo beats it out on the ground. Her overhead is safe but if she’s too close when it hits or is blocked, you can throw her and the only things that will stop the throws are her HP TK and her Ultra.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

And she takes hits like a wimp. And even veterans who use her fuck up a few times because it takes a lot to control her.

Dash under and punish.

Also, I think I read something about Guile sweeping a lot. If that’s the case just interrupt the second hit with drill/super/ultra.

Just throwing a couple random things, not sure if they have been mentioned before. Just some random bits here and there…

VS. Sagat:
If he tries to ultra one of your jump-ins, Rose’s jumping lk will beat Sagat’s ultra clean.
Jumping lk will also stuff tiger knee attempts.

VS. Balrog (boxer):
Soul spiral will beat his dashing punches as will a slide but slide will not beat EX versions

Craptacular, that’s sweet to know about Sagat’s Ultra and TK, thank you.

Here’s my opinions from some experiences I had tonight. I did a couple hours of Ranked, which I usually don’t bother with. My BP isn’t very high, 1300, so take these hints as probably best used around that level of opponent.

vs. Gief
-If you catch him with an lp poke or something, you may want to LP Reflect instead of Soul Spiral to follow up for the breathing room/resetting his approach.

vs. Guile
-A perfectly timed EX Soul Spiral will beat an EX Flash Kick, straight up. Same idea as avoiding fb’s with it, y’dig?
-Non-EX Flash Kick can be beaten with jMK or even jLK sometimes.
-Bait his Flash Kick by Focusing a SB just outside of its range and then back dashing. Not gonna work alot so mix up by sometime finishing the Focus and other times Reflecting.

Also tonight, I realized that Blanka flat out bends Rose over and does inappropriate things to her. I also had a lot more trouble with Cammy than I thought I would (not to mention the surprise of seeing three of them in one session). Two matchups I definitely need to learn better.

Also, how does everyone else feel against Elf? I really feel this to be an advantaged match for Rose right now, but have only played a few so far with her.

i don’t see how you can “react” to lp pokes from gief. really, your best choice is GTFO here with a backdash, hoping to get hit by only one. if those lp’s were just ticks for SPD, your reflect would get beaten cleanly.
Edit : never mind that, thought you were talking about gief’s pokes =p

ELF seems pretty easy to me for now. a lot of his mix-ups can be Soulthrown on reaction, or simply blocked/punished. his poking game is also inferior to rose’s.

I think he meant you combo from LP. Then again it’s hard to confirm and cant be chained after two LP’s. Needs to be linked which you know from the hard trial is very hard.

Elf hasn’t given em any problems either, except for his meaty splash attack. I always tried to drill out of it but that never worked.

Yah, off Rose’s LP, heh. That was a bit ambiguous, my bad.

Any suggestions vs. Cammy? Her speed was just kinda killing my rhythms. I found myself unable to dictate the pace of the match at all.

With Cammy you can punish blocked cannon drills with soul spiral and you can soul throw her out of both her hooligan throw and spinning back fists. Just be patient with Cammy and don’t try to throw too many soul sparks because her cannon drill will go right under them. Try to keep her out with pokes, slide, c mp, and f+hk.

I really haven’t had too much trouble with Blanka honestly. Rose can punish a lot of his specials on block and she can take him right out of others. You can punish blocked Blanka balls with soul throw (or ultra if you have it) you can soul throw him right out of his rainbow roll, Rose’s ultra will snatch Blanka right out of his ultra and will it snatch him out of blanka balls, rainbow rolls and his super combo.
