I asked a few posts up about possible options for opponents jumping in shallow. You can always know the distance and dash in to throw, but if they have a late button pressed you may get hit when you otherwise wouldn’t. I want to do some testing for drill to see if it will beat out stuff in this situation, so I can at least get a knockdown and go for crossup/bait wakeup.
for the soul throw I was having great luck early aka opponent still rising or peaked. If they ever hit the apex and started coming down I was having difficulty. I set up the dummy bot to do jump in kicks and varied my timing. I found no reason to use the EX when they were jumping towards me. Maaaaybe if there were doing an empty jump to land out of grab range in front of me, but I think it angles too upwards for it to reach that far horizontally.
What versions of soulspark/soul drill are you guys using? It seems most drills link from cr.jab strings so I suppose if you are 2in1’ing that why not go for RH drill?
I haven’t played too much with canceling into soul spark. I saw a nasty combo in the “rose and her shamwow” videos on youtube where the guy did a normal to soul spark FADC Ultra. It seemed that the person was in hit stun during the ultra and thus unblockable. It was a nice alternative to the drill xx super. There isn’t a real problem burning her ultra as there are many possibilities, but if someone is playing you tight it might be a nice chance to break it out.
Also, are there ANY 2+ hit normal combos in this game that go into specials that don’t require links? As i understand it the game engine limits this (I think i saw a syxx post somewhere stating the same thing)
What other normals can cancel into soul spark and/or drill? I will test this out later, but if anyone knows it might be nice to get a list going.
Were you just missing the soul throw, or were you getting hit out of it? It doesn’t seem to have really good priority, and it seems like the only way I can catch someone in it is if I use it before they throw out an attack.
I haven’t really messed around with the drill yet, but I think every HK, MK, and LK all do the same damage, in which case the version you want is really just dependent on how far you are from your opponent.
my point about the soul throw is you seem to have a good size hit box. Yes you can catch them before they attack, but once they have a button press no dice. At first I thought the EX version would absorb a hit… basically giving her an invincible dp like anti air, but thinking back that would just be too good. oh well.
It would be a quick test to see if the soul drill’s have different damage, I am just at work!
Yeah, I checked it out, they do the same damage. Okay, I was making sure that’s what you meant about soul throw, because that’s what was happening to me too. I’m not too worried about being hit out of it so much, because she looks like she has some other good tools to deal with jump-ins as well.
I’ve been playing Rose all night, oh god I need sleep now.
By the way, has it been mentioned yet that HP reflect juggles into super?
Nope. I even tried cancelling the reflect into a FADC into a fireball. No dice. I think that it wouldn’t help much though… her fireball has IMMENSE amounts of startup. It takes forever for that thing to get out. EX fireball helps that out a bit.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
No combo into Soul Throw? Awww man… that sucks. I’m only supposed to use it as an AA?
actually i think the contrary of her fireball but yeah it would have actually helped a lot provided you have meter of course but i was theorizing some dumb stuff like reflect then soul spark cancelled into her super and follow after it all  im a marvel player what can i say?
I would prefer to have her ex soul throw connect in juggles.
Anyways I was goofing around and came to realize you can catch a EX soul spark off of her fierce soul reflect. I only hits once, and it may be a waste but it’s interesting.
It just bothers the hell out of me because it launches you opponent and it just seems like there should be some sort of option off it. I suppose you could toss out the super soul spark move. But there doesn’t seem to be much more to it then that.
Forward + Cr. mk, standing mk seems pretty solid. I also found that sometimes I can toss out a crouching roundhouse after that and it catches my opponents off guard often. I wouldn’t spam it, but it seems like a decent mix up.
You can do fierce reflect into ultra as well right? you would need to fadc it, but is it do able? I think it would have to be since the super lands so technically the person is in “float” state
Also, a lvl 2 focus is not possible to dash out of and ultra if you anti air them and they get thrown back. The level 3 knocks them way back and you can rip them out of the sky, but the level 2 only goes a short way and the person falls to fast the ultra goes right through them, maybe they just aren’t in a float state during this.

Ya know what - I’m going to try that when I get home from work today. It’s silly I didnt try it because my main thing was to see if you could catch “anything” at all off of it. When I saw EX soul spark connected, I was like hmmmmm…what else will hit.
So it would stand to reason that the Ultra should connect as well. Must test and see!
Tried, doesn’t work. They just fall straight through the scarf. Seems like her only viable combo for it is corner only (I’m using viable very loosely here).
That sux, they just need to make her EX soul throw juggle off of that and I would be satisfied. Won’t happen, but still it seems a shame there aren’t more options with it.
Pretty much, it’s not as versatile as a shoryuken. you can use it to punish characters like Ken his misses a shoryuken, since he will probably be able to block when he touches the ground (no recovery) you may aswell soul-throw him while he’s in the air.
I haven’t tested if the EX-Soul throw is fast enough to use on reaction…maybe someone can share some light
as an a-air just use your focus attack so far it’s been working for me…you can also use your stupid ultra which hits anything anywhere.
I have good luck with both ersions. EX has a small windo of invincibliity it seems. I’ve gone through a few jump ins with it. If you can do soul throw on reaction by the time they reach the peok of their jump, you should beat their jump in. I’ve beaten a few jump in round houses to the punch using just regular Soul Glo so I dunno. But don’t go for it every time, cuz you’ll get baited oh so hard!
