Resident Evil (Questions & Discussions) Thread

lol i read that 1up’s review compared it to gears of war 2 multiple times

and i agree a lot with what rookie is saying not so much the metal gear thing ,but yeah too linear, too easy, and RE5?
whats survival horror about having all these bad ass weapons at 12PM killing infected africans

fps or 3rd person+survival horror do not mix well from what ive seen, the shooter aspect totally over shadows the survival horror aspect.

and RE5 not so much RE4 barely deserve to be in the genre
again im not calling them bad or boring games RE4 was very fun and the fact that RE5 was multiplayer made it fun as well ,Just saying they were bad RE games

on a side note play haunting ground if you haven’t that game sends your anxiety levels through the roof

*shrug

I figure what’s the purpose of those gorgeously rendered ruined buildings if you can’t go exploring.:lovin: Not the entire world, just the city and maybe even the outskirts of a forest like Raccoon forest. The obvious way to cap it with a barrier is the quarantine the US Government placed around Raccoon anyway. Spend an entire day on your couch exploring a ravaged skyscraper packed with zombies/lickers. Spend another day traversing back alleys stocking up ammo to use strategically in the future. I feel that’s the next step this series will eventually take the more powerful systems become (ps4 whenever).

this dood brought up Demento, of all the games you could bring up. You brought up that garbage?!

O…M…G!!!

Anxiety? Really?! Why!!!

After being chased through the game 99.9% of the time what’s really left to be cautious about? Known unknowns?!

None of those “Bosses” were on the same level as Mr. X, William, or Nemesis. Chunk’s, from the Goonies, lil’ brother can’t break through walls. granted, the bitch was creepy, but she was more annoying than anything else. Oh, old man that can crawl on the floor at 15 miles an hour for infinite amounts of time is lame. Come on, son.

@ R.P.D,

All the things that you’ve wished for has already happen. RE: Outbreak 1 and 2. Plus that failed miserably. Seriously.

my bad i just really love survival horror geeze

I think if it were executed differently for example with the RE5 engine, and the over the shoulder method, that would be superior. I’ll agree Outbreak left a little to be desired with the overhead floating camera angle which followed you around. Either way I’m sure whatever RE6 turns out to be will be interesting regardless.

what’s “survival horror” about a dog that barely listens to you, Alchemy, and
clones that want to rape you so they can be “reborn”?
Granted, the story had some potential… but it went out the window due to lame level designs, “spirits” that freak you out if they touch you, and yes the whole inclusion of “create your own weapons via alchemy for dummies” which kills nothing. If it was more on the form of “realism” then the whole survival part would make more since to me.

I’ve seen more survival horror + anxiety in the movie the Crazies, and that movie sucked.

At least they knew how to “survive”. Hell, Carriers did a better job and that movie bombed.

I concur.

Well here’s why I said “Um”. For one, Capcom’s Dead Rising sort of fills the open world void. I’m not saying that RE can’t it’s just that that’s probably how Capcom will look at it. Secondly, can you imagine how long a game like the one you are describing will take to develop? Even in sandbox games now you can’t even explore every building, let alone explore one that’s creepy. It’s a good idea but it just doesn’t seem feasible.

Also why would the character want to explore an abandoned zombie filled city? In no book I’ve read, game I’ve played, or movie I’ve seen, do characters aimlessly explore for days. They get what supplies that want, have some silly lawless fun, and then get the hell out of the city. If the goal of the game is to go to this quarantined city and find someone or something specific it still shouldn’t take you days. How much wandering do you do when you go downtown for something specific? Even if you stop at a few stores you are still there for one main thing and once that’s over it’s back to home base (I Am Legend comes to mind).

I’m trying to picture Chris or Leon or Claire or Hunk just walking/running through an empty city and I just don’t quite see it. REs are at their best in confined spaces with purpose driven characters. I think a free roaming post apocalyptic game would be very OH WAIT! - Fallout.

So see now we have arrived at this conundrum. A game that takes days to play must entail some sort of RPG element forcing you to grind. Grinding pads out the tediousness in in-game travel time. Realistically one could probably walk an hour in a zombie infested city and not get attacked by anything. If Glenn in the Walking Dead can make up escape routes and paths to where he needs to go I’m pretty sure they are uneventful. But RPGing isn’t what RE is about. Granted it almost is with RE4 and 5 being about finding money to upgrade your weapons incrementally but you want to keep it about survival and simple and realistic.

So back to I Am Legend. I assume that by day there are fewer enemies to deal with. That’s typically the case with zombies and monsters. So I just go day to day surviving? Avoiding the occasional skirmish and possibly running into other survivors. Speaking of which, when I find other survivors why would want to stay in this city? By then our goal is to get the hell out of dodge. I mean you can throw in missions about gathering the right parts for your H2 so you can drive away but that narrows down the places you need to possibly visit. No need to model an indoor environment like a skyscraper just to explore for no reason when the goal is now to get car parts. Instead the focus would be on making this trip to the auto shop a heart racing one. At night of course. But if the game is fully open world then you could go by day and what’s the fun in that?

I guess the point I’m trying to make here is that while the idea of a free roaming post-apocalyptic survival game is a very cool one I don’t see how it fits in with the Resident Evil franchise and with current technology I don’t even think that game is possible the way you’d like to see it.

Also, you might not feel this way but RE games are great because they aren’t 40 hour affairs. One of my favorite aspects of RE games and one that I don’t think gets a lot of notice is the fact that the games are meant to be replayed and meant to be replayed faster than before. Capcom has always given incentive to playing the game fast. Also since the games aren’t epic quests it’s great for most people who can probably only squeeze in an hour or two in a day to play. We as players can still feel like we got somewhere after an hour of Resident Evil. You could still feel that way with an RPG but not in terms of the story.

I too wish I could explore the nooks and crannies of City 17, Tokyo-to, and Chemical Plant Zone but part of what makes them so desirable is that I’m just visiting this one part and the rest is up to my imagination.

in survival horror you are suppose to be made to feel powerless thats why your weapons dont kill only allow for time to escape
always having to be on your toes never knowing when or where you will encounter your chaser trying to escape and hide hoping they wont find you.

not saying it was the best but that i enjoyed it

i also liked the panic thing and how it changes the filters.
i liked the story added a bit of psychological thriller

now you wanna talk about bad survival horror games talk about clock tower 3 the dialog and voice acting was shit the whole game just made me laugh my ass off.
i think haunting grounds did a better job of the two despite a lot of similarities i mean watch this ending
i laughed my ass of sooo unbelievably 23 seconds in i dare you not to laugh

That would make an awesome post-zombie apocalypse game, though. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare got it right…and wrong (in that the zombie aspect isn’t in free-roam online mode). Having to go into infested cities for shit like supplies and auto parts…multiplayer would be something like your team either fighting your way out of randomly-chosen cities (or to a specific rooftop all the way across town for a helicopter pickup, or rescuing human encampments from zombie or marauding human attacks). Zombie animals would be cool, too, as would the ability to wound a player as zombie-fodder to slow down the advancing hordes and give you time to escape. Google maps has already done the hard work for whoever undertakes this venture. They could even go mmorpg with this shit (only without the rpg crap like leveling up, and a monthly fee).

were the pics actually in-game or…?

Rhio 2k exactly! But that is not a Resident Evil game. I’d sure as hell play it. If a game like that is ever made they’d better not skimp out on vehicles. If a game like Alan Wake can have great third person control and great driving control then there is no excuse anymore. None. I’d also like to point out that the bicycle is an under utilized form of transportation. Somebody needs to change that…

whatever Davidstar I had a lot of fun just watching you play Clock Tower 3. Yeah the voice acting is bad but the voice acting is bad in most of the RE games too.

Yea, bad acting.

No LOL’s from me, but I do want 10 minutes of my life back.

At least HG/ Demento had some interesting endings. Inafune should’ve pushed harder for the “shock value”.

that was unedited

Well Furry Curry I am Legend was a story about a man living alone in a world of vampires and as far comparing for a video game’s sake, I think it shouldn’t be used. In a survival horror game the objective is to survive but in
spoiler

Spoiler

the case of I am Legend the man gave up and allowed himself to be carried off by vampires to be eaten.

yeah i enjoyed it too in the same way i enjoyed plan 9 from outer space

I don’t think that replacing the vampires with zombies would have changed anything. He still was in danger and drove/walked around all day gathering supplies. It could have been mutated deer and it wouldn’t have changed the fact that he had to survive and dealt with horrors.

Did you really just try to throw the ending in there to throw off my example?

I am Legend was made into film three times, and is a short story.

The first version is this: The Last Man on Earth (1964 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price in 1964. I own the film and have seen it multiple times, and despite the creatures being “Vampires” they more or less act like Zombies in the entire film.

So Furry Curry is not far off on his example, and Furry I wouldn’t argue with Sensei. He/she/it is either extremely naive, young, or retarded and likes to argue with points that don’t make sense or matter. Also he apparently doesn’t know how to use spoiler tags right.

Whoever directed that ending should have been shot. That was extremely half-assed.

resident evil was awesome
